I am so HERE for this conversation. I was raised in Christian Fundamentalism. I came out as a gay man in my early 20’s. For years I disavowed Christianity. Then, one day in my 40’s I had a sudden burst of insight: I get to decide if I’m a Christian… others don’t get to decide for me! This realization brought me back to Christianity, albeit a different version than the one I grew up with. THANK YOU all for the important work you do 💙

@@m.f.5739 Yeah or you or anyone else could go ahead and explain why exactly anyone should see homosexuality as a sin when it doesn't seem to harm anyone and people that are allowed to be gay seem to be living happy and healthy lives.

@@m.f.5739 Well that's a great way of avoiding the question I asked, which was what reason there is for anyone to view homosexuality as a sin. A book just calling it a sin isn't good enough, because anyone could write a book calling literally anything a sin. There has to be some valid reason to see something as a sin. Unless you're saying there isn't a valid reason and it's just God's opinion, in which case I'd ask why exactly we're supposed to care about God's opinion. Do you think that God is incapable of having the wrong opinion about something?
I would be curious to know how exactly you think a gay lifestyle harms anyone in a way that we would consider to be immoral. Risk of spreading diseases like aids or HIV isn't something that most people consider to be immoral. Of course it's not good and we should do everything we can to prevent it being spread, but we typically don't condemn people just for accidentally spreading a disease. Other than that, I'm not sure what about a gay lifestyle could be seen as harmful. I've often heard christians bring up that apparently gay people are more likely to cheat on their partner, but that has nothing to do with homosexuality, and everything to do with personal choice.

I had a divine experience (spiritual experience) as I was praying to God to forgive me for being gay.
It happened to me in 2004.
I had just gotten out of the Air Force after serving 10 years. I was in a very low place in my life because of the way a few family members treated me.
I drove from Missouri to California to visit a friend. On my way to CA, I was absolutely mesmerized by the beauty of the landscape of our country.
I started praying to God, asking for forgiveness for being gay, and thanking “God” for the beauty of the landscape. As I was praying, I started feeling something pulling inside of my eyes. I kept looking in the rear view mirror and realized that my eye color changed from a golden color to what is now a blue color!!
I knew at that very moment that God spoke to me, as I had a resounding message downloaded into my brain and heart 3 words, “all is forgiven”. With the experience, I received the impression that there’s nothing to forgive.
I knew he wanted me to “come out of the closet”, and live my life in 100% truth and honesty without wearing any masks. After that happened I started having synchronicities, such as strange interactions with birds, etc. Some years later I started noticing ghosts around me and at first I was freaked out by them, but a few years into it I became comfortable with them. Now I realize that it’s important to send love to all things around me because likeness attracts likeness and spirits are everywhere. I also catch ghosts, orbs, and fairies on my security cameras and post them to facebook, instagram and UA-cam.
I started studying NDEs (near death experiences) about 8 years ago. I’ve heard thousands now, and they all say God is real and religions are manmade. When we die we judge ourselves, no one else is judging us except ourselves.
4% of Near Death Experiencers have a hellish experience because we send ourselves to hell because we go where our frequency is. That’s why it’s important to focus on LOVE and let go of judgement.
Jesus Christ is real also, and he never said anything about homosexuality but spoke a lot about judging others. Actually his name is Yeshua, but modern society knows him as Jesus. He’s VERY real. 6-10% of NDErs see & converse with him, but the religions that were built around him were ALL manmade.
I used to fear “God” and my Southern Baptist religious upbringing, but now I realize that religion is mankind’s attempt to define God but falls short as God’s perfect love is incomprehensible to the human mind.
    Much Love
    Mike

All of what Brandan said was very mind blowing, but I would say that the country and culture we live in is a decisive factor also. I'm a gay mexican man, living in Mexico, raised catholic and became a devout conservative catholic on my own during my teen and young adult years, and I'm now deconstructing and accepting myself thanks to US progressive and LGBT-affirming Christianity. It just really blows my mind how Christianities (as Brandan said it) in the US are so so diverse and mind blowing. Here in Mexico, Christianity is 80% roman catholicism (which is moderate conservative) and 20% conservative protestant-evangelical churches. Progressive and LGBT-affirming Christianity in Mexico is so small and almost non-existent. The LGBT community in Mexico is mostly secular and irreligious and there´s hardly any interest at all from queer mexicans to reconcile their LGBT identities with any religion. It just really blows my mind how in the US, Christianity has become so so diverse in so many ways, unlike Christianity here in Mexico, even when our countries are neighbors.

@arielrodriguez968 I'm from Monterrey, where LGBT visibility I feel is still kind of underground. Mexico City, on the other hand, is so big, diverse, and with lots of LGBT visibility. You still have better chances of finding an LGBT-affiirming church or community (still doesn't compare to what you can find in any major US city). As far as I know, the Anglican diocese of Mexico City is very welcoming to LGBT people, they even have a group called Open, but the problem is, they still can't perform same sex marriages. The roman catholic parish of Sagrada Familia in colonia Roma is the most welcoming and accepting to LGBT people as a roman catholic church can be. Outside of that, I think there's other churches that range between catholic and evangelical that are affirming and may even perform marriages, but they are so small and hidden around the city.

+He is risen+ Your story is terrifically encouraging. Great is our LORD Jesus and His love for us. I lived in DC for 40 some years. Years attending Foundry Methodist Church late 80s and early 90s kept my foot in the faith, despite a growing dependence on alcohol and street drugs. Grew up Baptist but started attendiing the DC Dignity Mass held at St Margaret's Church near Connecticut and Florida on Sunday nights. My first real exposure to the mass and to the Eucharist. It was a hearty 350 male voices singing the mass -- plus two lesbians, at the time. I remember being taken away, beyond my Baptist-bred need to "really really believe" during the singing together of the Creed. I arrived to that mass with doubts about Christianity and left confident that the belief and faith of my brothers (and sisters) carried me into the faith, into the assembled Body of Christ at that mass. It marked a new part of my journey with Christ. I was no longer on my own, struggling to cast away my doubts and yearning to believe on my own lonesome self before Gd. This is Christian community. Later, living in France, i used to sneak into all sorts of Catholic churches -- tiny with three gathered at 7a each day or evening mass on weekdays at the Nice Cathedral. Returned to DC and joined up with the Catholics through the Jesuits at Holy Trinity, Georgetown. Our RCIA group was 50 catachumens in Sept and about 47 of us made it all the way to entry to the Roman Church at the Easter Vigil, 2000. Unfortunately, my best friends from that group are no longer Christians at all. Myself, i recently started to wonder whether i'd ever feel fully a part of the R Cath Church since fundamentally the Church hasn't figured out how to receive me wholly with my gifts. Landed on a Christian Eucharistic Community with three priests that fully blesses women's ordination into the priesthood, as well the same for Christians who are gay. It's a lively group called The Table, Indianapolis, where i now live. I have been able to avoid the need to "deconstruct" my faith. For me, i'm still a Catholic, still follow the Catholic spiritual paths, including growing closer to Mary the Theotokos, the Mother of Gd, the Christ. My challenge is to embrace my people -- my Christian sisters and brothers alive today and the millions alive since Jesus's death and resurrection, and that includes embracing the faith and practises of the Communion of Saints that has paved the way for me to be born and to be baptised into the Body of Christ, to join my people in the Christian religion that would not exist were it not for the witness and lives lived of those millions before me. I am grateful for my baptism and i could not live without the real -- not token --Body and Blood of Christ that reflects the assmbled real -- not virtual -- body of Christ at daily and weekly mass. Thank you for your perserverence and courage and openness and accessibility that i hope will gracefully show a way for others to remain Christian in this quickly secularising world. Soon Christian will be few and far between and i am grateful that it looks like i will get to eventually die clean and sober and Christian until the end of my life. Baruch hashem, deo gratias, thanks be to Gd.

When approaching this subject, everyone seems to want to contextualize the Bible into irrelevancy with: cultural norms of the time, etc. Yet the Bible also says that God doesn't change: "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever." (Heb. 13:8) "For I am the LORD, I change not...." (Malachi 3:6) KJV. Jesus is the Word (John 1:1) so the whole Bible is His word as it is, not as we want it to be. As Isaiah 55:8-9 says: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."
in Romans 1:27, the men in question here were also bisexual as they left "...the natural use of the woman...." by choice. It has often been pointed out that homosexuality is not a choice, but what has been missing is the fact that bisexuality offers a choice. And, if homosexuality is not a choice, it is not a sin, because sin is a choice: a choice to disobey, that is acted upon, in the case of doing what you were told not to do, or not doing what you were told to do.
Rather, it is a fault; and what does the Bible say about faults? "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16). In the case of this fault, you're basically commanded to "come out." The stress of keeping all this bottled up inside is not healthy.
An how should such a person be treated? Galatians 6:1-2 give us the answer: "Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness, considering thyself lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye on another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." For, as I Corinthians 10:13 says: "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it." It's your cross to bear.
I Corinthians 6:9's "...effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind" (KJV) is "updated" in modern versions by combining the two separate parties involved here under the term homosexual(s) or homosexuality. One problem with this is that the term "homosexuality" didn't exist until 1869 when it was coined by a guy named Karl Kertbeny in Germany, with the word heterosexuality soon following, then appearing in publications the following year (1870) by the likes of Freud. Another problem is that the parties involved were separated for a reason, but we (the translators of the new version(s) know better, so we'll combine them to "clarify" and "simplify" the meaning. Then, when anyone teaches this passage, they have to go back to the Greek to separate them again. The Jerusalem Bible translates "effeminate" as "catamite," which was a pubescent boy (which explains the use of the term "effeminate" in the King James, as very young boys and girls are fairly androgynous at an early age) who was the intimate companion of an older male, usually in a pederastic relationship; so this passage is talking about pederasty. This is not surprising as the church at Corinth was considered the most carnal church at that time in the Roman Empire.
As for using the two verses in Leviticus (18:22 & 20:13) to say that homosexuality is a sin, is like using the verse that condemns adultery (20:10,) with the same punishment, death, must make heterosexuality a sin too. Sexuality isn't the sin, it's what you do with it.

Large swaths of it were forged, the majority of it anonymous. Both the old and new testaments are highly redacted and unpreserved. The Christian sects cannot even agree amongst themselves what books aught to be included in this “cannon”. I agree that many church communities have fumbled the ball on LGBT issues, but I don't think it's that simple to just say, Jesus wants us to just love each other, the way we are. Of course love is very important, but without it being defined, love is just a word with no purpose. I was left wondering something else, what does he believe about Jesus? I mean, does he believe the whole God/man savior dying on the cross.part? Cause if not, what’s the purpose of believing any of it? Why not just walk away and call it something else? I also think it would of been helpful if he defined how the gay christian should live their live out, if for no other reason, but to give an answer when the question comes, maybe not to convince, but to just be able to speak with conviction, cause if you don't know yourself why your doing what your doing, can imagine where that conversation will go. He mentioned he’s coming with a book, but also said, he did not think pre marital sex was wrong. Wow! What did that mean, and how does that look? but I guess we have to wait til May. Please don’t read this the wrong way, this is a very important topic, love your discussions, but I have to say, it left me hanging.

Thanks for your comments. But pre-marital sex is not a sin in Scripture. We are called to have self-control and respect for others in how we express our sexuality. And I would say, perhaps, you have a very conservative view on what Christianity is. Christians have debated core doctrines since the beginning and come to different conclusions. Only those with power told the minority views to "just walk away". But we can't- we are committed to Jesus, even if we are not committed to "Christianity" the dominant religion.

@@revbrandanrobertson Thanks for your response. The podcast was thought provoking, this topic is very important and needs to be discussed in the wider church community. But based on what you said, it’s clear what you believe the bible does not say, so what guide lines would you use to show what is allowable? I found your channel and was hoping for a more clear explanation, so I watched a few of them, especially the debate with Micheal Brown, also James White and Jeff Durban, hoping for better understanding. Michael Brown was fair, but gave standard response based on his experience biblical training, James and Jeff were just attacking, so not sure why they even agreed to the debate. So, if the Bible does not condemn homosexual relationships, nor premarital sex, how would that be modeled in gay christian community? I mean, is there a difference in living out relationships in a non christian gay lifestyle vs a christian gay community? For example, is marriage not required at all? Are there no boundaries in sexual activities as long as it’s between consenting adults? Or, hypothetically speaking, you were speaking at a christian gay youth conference, how would you address relationship topics like the ones mentioned, knowing that sexual relationships come with a mental/emotional component. Oh! I don’t mind taking an offramp, as long as I can find my way back to the main road. Thanks

Kinda seems like God is another word for love for Brandan. Pretty much every time he used the word God, it could’ve been replaced with love and the meaning of what he was saying would’ve been pretty much the same. In that sense, I’m not sure why love isn’t sufficient to describe what he’s talking about, but hey, if he wants to call love God, that’s his prerogative. I just hope he knows that’s what he’s doing. I’m be curious to know if he views God as some kind of being similar to humans, or as more of a concept like love is.

I agree- God is love. That's a traditional Christian definition of love. I believe God is the ground of being, consciousness itself, the animating force behind all that exists.

@@revbrandanrobertson Thanks for clarifying! I hope this doesn't sound rude, but I'm curious, what exactly makes you think that there needs to be a ground of all being or consciousness? Exactly what does this supposed ground of being do to explain or aid us in the one and only life we know we're going to have? As an atheist, I feel that I'm able to live a pretty happy and healthy life without putting much thought into what the ground of all being is, if there even is such a thing. I feel that focusing on myself and people I care about is more than enough for me, and I've never felt a need for there to be something greater than any of that. So I'm curious, have you ever stopped to question why you feel you need this belief in the first place?

In all kindness, but Mr. Robertsons theology is straight up heretical. He flat-out denies scripture and completely misses the core message of the gospel. The gospel states that we should accept Jesus as our lord and saviour and repent from our sins. The second part is completely missing in his theology, which on the other hand makes the first part meaningless. If sin isn't a big deal, why should we need Jesus?
"Queer Christianity" is as oxymoronic as "adulterous Christianity" or "murderous Christianity". You either place your identity in Christ (Christianity) or in your sin (queer), but you cannot serve two masters. This twisted gospel is leading astray so many people, that's why every Christian should call it out. I hope he realizes that one time and turns away from it. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes when God shows him all the people who are in hell because of his false teachings. Repent!

"Queer Christianity" the rejection of God. Jesus said REPENT to repent is to turn from sin its not to say God you are wrong love is love no love is God doing as God does is true love. You can't love another person and do acts God despises and calls wicked he's not here for your lukewarm selection of sins you choose follow him or Satan. To love others is to rebuke their evil actions listen to the warnings of to the church of Laodicea overcome your sin do not identify as it.
    Laodicea: Standing at the Door
14 To the angel of Messiah’s community in Laodicea write: “Thus says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Originator of God’s creation: [e] 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. Oh, that you were either cold or hot! 16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spew you out of My mouth. 17 For you say, ‘I am rich, I have made myself wealthy, and I need nothing.’[f] But you do not know that you are miserable and pitiable and poor and blind and naked. 18 I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may be rich, and white clothes so that you may dress yourself and so the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed, and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 19 Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore, be zealous and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To the one who overcomes I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I myself overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Ruach is saying to Messiah’s communities.”
