much respect .. you are one of the only DR's i know that actually lifts.. most DR's i know tell me to stay away from lifting..... yet they look frail and weak...
Hey experts, Deception is the norm in the supp industry. Find a brand you trust and stick with it. In any case to many new lifters believe supps play a huge part in their progress, This is false. Whole foods and well advised training are where gains are made.
based on the added BCAA and aminos on the ingredients list here's a few whey product that have the potential of protein spiking: MP iron whey arnold series, MP combat, mutant whey, muscle milk, MT phase8, myofusion elite, whey factors
You're the only guy that explained it well in youtube. You mentioned that whey protein is still made up of amino acids. Thus if you are taking a pure Amino acids blend - it's still considered protein . However I do agree they deceptively lied ingredients wise, but not protein wise.
Im shattered. My tub has an amino profile break down which totals 17g per serv. The nutrition panel says the tub has 24g per serv. Though they were honest enough to include an amino breakdown, I will not be purchasing that brand again. Thanks for the video Jim.
SO IMPRESSED WITH THIS PROTEIN! WOW I WANNA TRY VANILLA BUT VERY FEW COMPANIES NAIL THAT TASTE. SMORES ROCKS! AND SO DOES ORE JYM! RELEASE SOME T SHIRTS I WOULD WEAR! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Just looked at the ingredients on my MP Combat Protein Powder. It has a lot of that "ine" Jim is talking about. This shit is spiked! Last time I'm buying this shit!
Great video. However, youre not concerned with the silicon dioxide as an ingredient? Its ingredients like that that make actual food > protein supplements.
I have a question regarding Protein Concentrates and Protein Peptides. Your video and article speaks mostly about concentrates when it pertains to pre-workouts. Are these "protein concentrates and protein peptides" the same slight of hand as with the pre-workouts? Other companies don't label what these "concentrates" or "peptides" are; hoping you could clarify. Thanks!
Great Video Jim , really enjoyed it. Ano your probably fed up answering questions on this but I was hoping you could help. I know you can't talk about brands in case you get into trouble but I use a whey protein which has 24g Protein,5.5 BCAAS 4 Glutamine and Glutamic acid. I checked the ingredients like your video said, but it does not mention BCAAS in the ingredients, that threw me does that mean it is or isn't spiked? if it is does, does that mean theres only 14.5 grams of protein ? please clear this up JP
If BCAA's are NOT in the ingredients list, they are NOT spikers. If the BCAA's are only listed off to the side and not in the ingredients list, this means they are listed to inform you they exist in the protein itself, but are not inflating the values. Go to 4:35 this is where he starts talking about it.
i learned already and if you been working out for more then 2 years and you still don't know how to eat learn now ..I Just drink a protein powder on my training days after the workout to HELP with recovery, after that i eat real food, solid meals..on my days off i just eat real food, no powders..and i take the cheap walmart brand whey.. and its does enuff to help with my recovery and i say enuff, you dont need to drink 3 shakes a day..because the days i dont drink and i go to work i feel sore as hell untill i get 3 meals in me to feel good..but if i take it after my workout and go to work, 2 meals in i feel great, so just eat damit! is a supplement! go look up the defintion of a supplement
Shit, now I'm concerned about the natural Optimum Gold I'm taking, as it has 5+ grams of BCAAs, 4+ grams of glutamine and precursors, and whey peptides listed on the ingredients list.
Now that I've watched further into the video, I see that the ON Natural only has the peptides on the ingredients list and all the amino acids are broken down separately so I guess it's not spiked.
Mr. B Yeah I was thinking the same thing until I looked at the ingredients list. However I can guarantee I will be buying Pro Jym when it comes out as long as it's not too expensive.
I wouldn't worry about it. I believe the BCAAs you get from their product is naturally occuring from the whey protein that there is. I'm no science expert though but there's lots of other proteins out there who protein spikes. I've learned to read the label more and honestly, you're buying honesty from Jym supplements. It lists out everything so it's all good. I just wish it's more available to retailers in Canada as shipping from BB(dot)com is just frustrating.
Premier Protein ready to drink is advertising 30g/ serving . I don't see these aminos or anything listed, but the ingredients shows like various forms of concentrates. Is it possible that they are actually delivering 30 grams of protein, but just cheap versions of concentrate as opposed to spiking to get that number?
They say that glycine and taurine are the two amino acids that are usually used to spike the protein, does that automatically mean when one of the that two is listed on the ingredients it's spiked? For example MP combat. it has glycine in but it's nearly at the bottom of the list of ingredients, does that mean this protein is spiked? And I also read some articles that glycine is a flavor enhancer. Any comments on that?
Question. Couldn't I just add the amounts of each amino acid listed in milligrams to figure out the amount of protein per scoop? Ive looked at a number of whey proteins and doing this math usually matches the amount of protein claimed on the label.
what about dymatize iso-100. Best protein so far. The Ingredients don't mention anything but whey protein isolate and milk and soy. So does it contain 25g of pure whey isolate ? and still contain 5 g's of BCAA's ?
I checked the label. The 5 g of BCAA are part of the whey protein. What Jim is saying is whey protein is a complete protein, meaning it is made up of all of the amino acids. In this case, the BCAA's are making up the whey protein, not being added in afterwards to spike the value.
***** Whey is a protein from milk.. a natural substance created when making cheese. The BCAA's have to be added in, there's no way to put BCAA's in a protein. Protein naturally contains amino acids, meaning any whey protein when broken down in the body will offer the user amino acids.
I just looked at Muscle Pharm combat label. And there's like a ton of amino acids listed in the ingredient list. Never ever going to buy anything from muscle pharm
Cellucor is a legit company and is not spiking they're protein. And the BCAAs in their whey is naturally occurring. It's right there on the front label.
Gylcine and taurine will always be in whey, but they should only be a small amount. If your whey states it has around 2500mg of glycine, its probably spiked.
Meaning ON isn't spiked? Im kind of checking right now the total grams and doing the math to calculate those "with 9 grams of BCAA" (Im using platinum hydrolyzed), total fat, total carbs, total protein. And based on it, I'm only getting about less than 30g of protein out of 39g per scoop. I don't know if I'm right about that.
Yah, their Gold Standard's Whey and Casein. Though, their Platinum and PRO Complex claims to have atleast 30g of protein. Anyway I am going to try this Pro Jym next. It seems very legit and honest. If I saw this brand sooner, I would've buy this instead. Thanks bro! Cheers! Oh 1 more thing. You might have seen or tried Muscle Pharm's Combat Powder? It's consist or protein blends, then as I read the ingredients used, I quite had a doubt.
I tried MP's Combat Powder before, it's slightly cheaper but I've seen better results with Pro Jym... And I also try to stay away with any blends. So... yea... cheers
much respect .. you are one of the only DR's i know that actually lifts.. most DR's i know tell me to stay away from lifting..... yet they look frail and weak...

Great video! Thanks for clarifying Jim! Can't wait to try pro-jym out.
based on the added BCAA and aminos on the ingredients list here's a few whey product that have the potential of protein spiking: MP iron whey arnold series, MP combat, mutant whey, muscle milk, MT phase8, myofusion elite, whey factors
jim you guys ever gonna come up with an isolate version? lactose intolerant and whey concentrate bothers me
You're the only guy that explained it well in youtube. You mentioned that whey protein is still made up of amino acids. Thus if you are taking a pure Amino acids blend - it's still considered protein . However I do agree they deceptively lied ingredients wise, but not protein wise.
Thank you, Dr. Stoppani for the caveat emptor.
Thank you so much. I bought your stack. I can't wait to start using them.
Thank you for this information. Didn't know about this until now.

So if it says "enhanced with creatine and aminos"..it's spiked? :(
Outstanding. Thank you Jim.
Just looked at the ingredients on my MP Combat Protein Powder. It has a lot of that "ine" Jim is talking about. This shit is spiked! Last time I'm buying this shit!
thank you so much jim, awsome job explaining this, knowledge is power.
This is some very good information. Thanks Jim
I looking for a protein that it's not made with whey. And that has 50 grams of protein ... this video is great.
thnx jim learning something new everyday.

just got my first 4lb tub of pro Jym. love it so far. you get what you pay for.
There's only 2 ingredients in my regular protein powder, ie. undenatured whey protein concentrate and sunflower lecithin, from theproteinworks..
i learned already and if you been working out for more then 2 years and you still don't know how to eat learn now ..I Just drink a protein powder on my training days after the workout to HELP with recovery, after that i eat real food, solid meals..on my days off i just eat real food, no powders..and i take the cheap walmart brand whey.. and its does enuff to help with my recovery and i say enuff, you dont need to drink 3 shakes a day..because the days i dont drink and i go to work i feel sore as hell untill i get 3 meals in me to feel good..but if i take it after my workout and go to work, 2 meals in i feel great, so just eat damit! is a supplement! go look up the defintion of a supplement
My powder is spiked. Lesson learned, don't be in a rush to buy just cause it's cheap. You really get what you pay for
nice vid Dr.Stoppani

***** I agree completely. Unlike some companys they put time into there products.

Mr. B We're usually not a fan of extra glutamine, but we'll never complain when more BCAA (especially leucine) is added. It's anabolic
So I'm assuming that Phase8 is spiked being that it has glycine in it?
Most of us are paying for less than "25g to 21g" of protein and that also f*cks with our macros and money.
Can't wait to try it out! Your products are beast!
JIM, when the ingredients list tells you that it has whey peptides, is that a form to mislead you from that it really has ammino's added?
Thanks for teaching.
inner armour Nitro peak is SPIKED
Nicely said

Yep that's what it means u see any of those two then yes your protein is spiked

I just looked at Muscle Pharm combat label. And there's like a ton of amino acids listed in the ingredient list. Never ever going to buy anything from muscle pharm
Great video! Very interesting and very informative. Thanks!
something my mom told me , shorter ingredients means most likely better for you , if you hard time pronouncing it means chemicals aka bad
It sure is nice to have someone with some integrity out there. This is why I buy JYM. Thanks Jim.
Jym, ON, and Muscletech make the best protein powders
+yamachicken muscle tech is know for its amino spiking
So gold standard doesnt contain 24 grams???😢
Is Cellucor like that? It has 5g of added BCCA's.
no they are not
Cellucor is a legit company and is not spiking they're protein. And the BCAAs in their whey is naturally occurring. It's right there on the front label.
***** what do i look for on labels and amino acid profile breakdwons?
Moses A Glycine and Taurine.
Sometimes L-alanine and Creatine
Gylcine and taurine will always be in whey, but they should only be a small amount. If your whey states it has around 2500mg of glycine, its probably spiked.
Can the extra protein intake from food or shakes turn or gets stored as body fat?
No.
yes, but its very unlikely
no. only a caloric surplus will make you gain body fat
Thats why he says "extra"
I totally understand
He sounds pretty pissed off, Fucking protein companies
superb!!!
08:00 - obviously he's referring to ON gold standard.
Cheers.

as I recall, ON claims to provide 24g of protein for each serving~ Anyways i've been using Pro Jym for quite a while now. Great results. Cheers.
