You're the only instructor I know that shows in detail what you're doing and NOT blocking that detail with your fingers when tying knots. It's amazing to me how many people on YT don't critique their own videos. Details matter. Anyway, kudos for that.
Simplicity like this in a tarp setup is great! 100% don't get the other channels' fascination with over-complicating this process. Thanks for keeping it real!
Nicely done brother corporal Kelly!! You’re never on porch playing the quarterback!! You are always hands on!! No BS!!! Keep bringing it brother!!👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👊🏿
Thanks for all your videos. I enjoy them tremendously! I'm a 68 year old boyscout. I use a variation of your trucker's hitch all the time. And I use toggles extensively! I do enjoy camping and camping comfortably... and on the cheap! Thanks, again!
KISS...Keep It Simple Stupid! That was drilled into me back in 1979, during basic training, and remains with me all my life. This method you just showed, most certainly does "Keep It Simple Stupid". No need to make a simple job complicated or time consuming. Great video, Cheers from Winnipeg.
I got a couple of hobby vise, and a couple pieces of dowling attached each end of my desk indoors with a length of paracord to make it easy to regularly drill my knots, works for me and maintains my memory of them
Ive never ever left 1 comment on you tube and don't plan to after this. But the way you just demonstrated and eloquently said to everyone out there "Really... How bout we keep it simple stupid" just made me smile!
Keeping your ridgeline & your toggles connected to the tarp or rolled inside during transport will help ensure you always have them ready to deploy. Half inch pvc tubing cut into small sections with a hole for a small lanyard loop will keep toggles together with a light duty caribeaner. Thanks Corporal. OAF.
Keep it simple stupid. Fantastic. I love that you're taking it back to the basics. Makes it simple for a starter then we can learn the fancy knots down the line. But everyone can get a tarp up in the beginning.
Great video! After your last ridgeline video I made one like that. Then made another like this, the wsy I've been doing for years. I now have both. I like the fancy one for longer term and unhurried setups, but for quick 'emergency' setups this is so much simpler.
Awesome! This harkens back to a much earlier video of yours I also enjoyed learning from. I still appreciate your time and effort making this for us. Thank you.
It's one of the things I learned early one. My instructor taught us to use simple knots first. Where you can set up a basic shelter with only overhand knots and shoestring knots. It was the Keep It Simple Stupid way of doing it, that anyone can do. And from there we learned more advanced stuff.
I’ve been subscribed for a while; I’ve seen almost every video you’ve put out there; I’ve learned lots and tried to teach coworkers other neat tidbits and tricks. I’ve given away expedient ridge lines I’ve made from your instructions to people as gifts or as a thing to put in emergency kits. I’ve used your ridge line setup in every situation, from setting up camping shelters to preventing people from getting heat stroke at community events when shelter is unavailable. From Plash Palatka’s to the venerable GI poncho. Thank you for the advice and knowledge you share with us.
Another benefit of using toggles is that the pressure exerted on grommets is very little. Those cheap poly tarps always lose their grommets when you tie THRU the grommet, rather than spread the stress to both sides using a toggle that spans the hole.
I have made several “rapid deploy ridgelines.” It’s fun to put together as an at-home bushcraft. I may not always have my pre built equipment so I am completely onboard with the Corporal’s method. It’s easy to remember and to teach others. The main key here is to practice, practice, practice!! Muscle memory and repetition.
Yes!! For someone like me, who was never a Boy Scout, and have a hundred hours of youtube watching the good Corporal here (and others) about outdoor craft, for every hour I've spent in the field---. This is just Gold. even I can manage to remember this simple technique. Thanks again Shawn!!
Hello from Oklahoma! Good Video. Love how You are using that "Ghetto Overhand knot" instead of the bowline You use to push. Hard to believe your sons all grown up. Thanks for all You do! God Bless!
I’ve got to say. If your looking to learn anything about anything out doors this should be your go to channel Corporal Kelly you ROCK!! Thank you so much for all I’ve learned on your channel!
Thx to corporal’s vids and tutorials i’m using ropes much more efficiently. I also watch other people’s vids about effective application of knots. And most of them are super simple and easy to use. For summer i only need hammock, 10m rope with few Prusik loops on it, sleeping bag - and my lazy camp is ready:). Occasional stakes or extra stands are made from sticks and branches of fallen trees.
Thanks for the detail corporal greatly appreciated doing what you do keep it up I spend my time outdoors fishing this time of year give a person a fish you feed them for a day teach them how to fish you feed them for life just like all of your shelter building
I love these direct and to the point, simple yet SO effective educational videos! I appreciate these especially because they can be applied to a number of recreational activities where many folks may not think they NEED any shelter or other emergency items or skills... fishing, picnics, mushroom/antler shed hunters, boaters/rafters, and so on. Thanks!
Tried bankline before wAtching these videos. Carry it all the time now. I'm down at the beach with my family and I've already used it to repair a fold up wagon and two chairs. Thanks corporal!
Do you're awesome I started watching your channel about 7 years ago when you first started out you were clean cut and wearing a du-rag you've totally coming to your own you remind me of a foreman I used to work for who is the coolest dude I've ever worked for I just want to say much love much respect and happy D-Day brother I appreciate you and thank you for your service❤🤘🇺🇸
Great video, and a great reminder to follow the K.I.S.S. method. Especially if you're lost and just trying to make it through a night or two. The less work you do, the more energy you conserve. Semper Fi!
At my current age of 49yo (50yo in late August), I wish there was Boy Scouts for "seasoned individuals" here in Western Washington State... Oh the adventures that I had from 1986-1992 before I aged out!
Firefighter hear. We learned multiple knots in fire school. I quickly learned that a figure 8 knot will do just about anything you want. Loop in the end. Loop around an object. Loop in the middle. Tie two ropes together. Still use other knots for technical rescue. But the figure 8 is a great general use knot. Also easy to tie in the dark and with gloves on.
Buddy the words you were speaking came straight from my heart lol same way here, never understood why knot guys come off almost as arrogant with there tying cordage expertise when im always thinking K.I.S.S. Your video and demonstrations helped me out a ton, i appreciate your pragmatic approach.
I've been using your pre made ridge line setup for years now, but to be honest, i will switch to this one now, for is way to simple and efficient to not use. Thank you Shaun
Thank you, Shawn, for an excellent video showing why simple is often the best path. We appreciate demonstrations that are easy to replicate with our young troops. Children may get frustrated if everything they attempt is not doable for their age group and abilities. We enjoy watching our young family members build confidence as their skills improve.
I love these simple solution videos. My new go-to set-up... thanks. FYI, I've had my Arcturus for years, and it's still going strong. I did take the time to Gorilla Tape the grommets and stress points when I first got it.

I agree
Coalcracker and Dave canterfeild are other good pages. Them and corprals corner are my personal favorite channels for bushcraft

Simplicity like this in a tarp setup is great! 100% don't get the other channels' fascination with over-complicating this process. Thanks for keeping it real!
I like it when Corp takes us back to the old school topics like the earlier videos!
proud of your son graduating love the ridge line

The number of projects you have completed with that handful of knots, hitches, and loops. Is simply outstanding.
Don´t we just love when simplicity gets the job done?!
Great explanation and visuals of how to tie an improvised truckers hitch for those of us who are knot challenged. Thanks.
Thanks for all your videos. I enjoy them tremendously!

Simple, easy, taught in a clear and concise manner. Gotta like that.
FINALLY, a ridge line even I (70yrs) can remember. Thank you sir.

Thanks for the video
Thanks, Corp! Good info for when I set the hammock up in the yard. Outstanding!
Simple. Simple is better. Thanks!

Outstanding video, simple and to the point.
Excellent instructional video. Thanks for showing the closeup of the knot.

Finally a simple method that gets the job done! Thank you Corporal Kelly
Thank you Corporal
KISS principle in effect. Thanks !!
A grommet is just a hole waiting to become a rip. This toggle method treats the fabric with the respect it deserves.
Cpl. simplicity at its best. Love your take on life in the outdoors.
Awesome! This harkens back to a much earlier video of yours I also enjoyed learning from. I still appreciate your time and effort making this for us. Thank you.
Always an educational video. Thank you!

Beautiful simplicity and simply beautiful.
Brilliant idea with those double toggles. Praying God’s blessings upon you for sharing your knowledge with others.
Doesn't get much simpler than this. Thanks Shawn! -Kyle
Thanks Corporal, simpler is always better!
Cant get much more basic than this. Good video, especially for the beginner
Thank you for all you teach. Can’t wait to take a class. Congrats to your son. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is where one can expand their knowledge and experience quickly and efficiently. Forever forward.

Thanks! You really got in close to show details. You are a great teacher!
Love it! I do have a pre-made Ridgeline from one of your earlier videos, but I appreciate the simplicity of this one.
I like how you simplified this into an easy setup. Most that do this over think everything.
Your dry sense of humor cracks me up. Love it. Keep up the good work. 👍
Tthanks for the knowledge Corporal Kelly. My kid loves watching you build. Outstanding as always.
Tremendous video. Fine example of KISS. Cheers.
Yeah! Skills video I can show to my scout kids.
Back to what i enjoy and why i subscribed.

Simplicity! I like how this method does knot make things complicated…🤓
Another great video Corp. your modified truckers hitch is the bomb!
I love my Arcturus Tarp! Got it in Camo, from your affiliate page, when I first started following you!

Knots aren't easy. Thank you ❤
Thanks for the detail corporal greatly appreciated doing what you do keep it up I spend my time outdoors fishing this time of year give a person a fish you feed them for a day teach them how to fish you feed them for life just like all of your shelter building
Thanks for this video Corporal, I am one of those that are just really bad with knots, that helped out a lot 👍🤙🤙🤙
This definitely helps me i confess that im horrible with knots but this is easy appreciate the knowledge sharing

The coolest video about a ridge line ever! Thank you sir for being straight and clear.
Thanks for the “KISS” explanation. I’ve seen countless videos that require way more than this. And yet, this seems the most effective.
"Easy peasy, "Just like that!" thanks for the training.
Simple is elegant and fast. Really, doing things quickly and simply shows skill. If complex is not needed, then do not do it. Love your style.
This might be one of your most useful topics. Thanks!
Great video, and a great reminder to follow the K.I.S.S. method. Especially if you're lost and just trying to make it through a night or two. The less work you do, the more energy you conserve. Semper Fi!
I compeletly agree with you, basic camping is like 3-(maybe max 5) different knots and you can setup tent, tarp and hammock with a few simple knots.
Everyone can always learn something . Never stop learning! Thank You !
Thank you, Corp...because I was totally confused by the KNOTTS!!!
Thank you for this video. Looks like an excellent approach to tarp use. Straight up presentation as always. You are a good instructor.
At my current age of 49yo (50yo in late August), I wish there was Boy Scouts for "seasoned individuals" here in Western Washington State...

Hi! I too am a late August birthday guy but a wee bit older. I'll be 59 ( YIKES!! PUT ON THE BRAKES!) this year & am in Western Massachusetts

Great mid-week vid mate. I can do some complicated knots, but this is what I'm trying next. Easy to do, and easy to teach mates as well.
Woods time happy time.
😀👍
Understood and needed video,I have made for myself your "pre-made" ridge line ans have used it to great affect.
Nice. Being a rope guy, knots are always an issue,. Simple Getz it done. Now after 35 yrs and a boat load of arthritis simple works best. Keep it up.
Buddy the words you were speaking came straight from my heart lol same way here, never understood why knot guys come off almost as arrogant with there tying cordage expertise when im always thinking K.I.S.S.
Your video and demonstrations helped me out a ton, i appreciate your pragmatic approach.
That was a very good video! Thanks for the tip. Tried works great! Looking forward to the next campout!
I've been using your pre made ridge line setup for years now, but to be honest, i will switch to this one now, for is way to simple and efficient to not use. Thank you Shaun
great video! i just watched the " hard" part a few times and i can do it!
Thank you, Shawn, for an excellent video showing why simple is often the best path. We appreciate demonstrations that are easy to replicate with our young troops.
