There will always be an England, but England without Vera Lynn will never be the same... She had a mellifluous voice, akin to that of an angel... She was a wonderful lady, the icon of an age, and the symbol of a most remarkable generation. For me at least, she was the symbol of the spirit of British endurance, of those old values that Britons cherished, and, I want to believe, still cherish. I am not ashamed to admit that I cried when I heard that she is no longer with us in this world...
