Gosh.. this brought tears to my eyes. Dame Vera Lynn sadly passed away today, 18th June 2020; we lost a national treasure. Just watching this video made me realise how truly free everyone must have felt on that day.. walking freely in the streets with no fear of being bombed, or an air raid siren going off. Having to rush to do what they needed to get back home ‘just in case’; it must have felt so freeing, especially for the younger generation, to say to their siblings, friends, partners.. ‘grab your coat! Let’s go!’ to join hoards of crowds to dance & celebrate until the small hours that they’re finally free of Hitlers clutches. Seeing those young women & men at the end made my heart swell. Those women likely waited all of the war for their men, crying, praying, begging for their safe return. Enjoying walking in the fountain with no cares in the world before embarking on the next stage of their lives. My father was born on May Day 1945, he sure knew how to make an entrance. My mother was born Jan 1946, & they both remember the ration books, the sense of community that continued post war, & patriotism; something not always experienced these days. Thank you for sharing 💕 x

Thank You Dame Vera Lynn, Another Song Relevant to the 'Global Pandemic' Stay Safe, Stay Strong, Because We Can Get Through This Together, Love Each Other Too, 'God Bless' You Dame Vera Lynn and May You Rest in Peace, XXXX
I'm not even English, but I love this song so much. I can well imagine, how this beautiful anthem of hope gave people all the endurence and bravery they needed during England's darkest hours. When people were hiding in the bunkers and subway stations, while the Blitz was going on above them, during the long Blackouts and when food and basic supplies were rationed. I've seen some of the old black and white fotographs, that show civilians still smiling and making music while they were hiding underground, people continuing their everyday life like nothing ever happened, while everything around them was laid to waste. That's what I appreciate so much about the British: You never surrender and most important, you never loose your humor, even in the darkest times. People like Winston Churchill and Vera Lynn are the embodiment of that spirit. May she rest in peace. Nowadays, we all need that spirit again. And this song says it all: If you stand together, believe in your country and yourself, then you will withstand every crisis. So come what may, there'll always be an England! I hope this song still encourages you the same way it encourages me. Best wishes from Germany going out to all of you, my English friends!
I pray to our old gods that it is true that there'll always be an England...unfortunately the chances are slim if this current trajectory into madness continues.
I love my country, I love my brothers and sisters who have built this country from a parts of the commonwealth, they fought and died, heroes all colours. 💪✌️🙏
C. John Smith Since Britain's joining of the EU. The British Elite at Westminster have all been but just muppets chosen to suit the EU's purpose. The British Elite who loved England and all of Britain are all gone now... and have been dead, since the Glory Days of Britan's might... and as you should know. The EU is hell bent on destroying Nation-States, for their goal of One Europa. Certainly a frightening prospect for the future, if the UK, doesn't leave.
ryan taylor No, it isn't to do with the Labour government, though that was one part of the issue. There has been a cultural revolution in the past 60 or so years within this country, with both the labour and conservative parties being transformed by it. It's impossible to claim that only the Labour party was infected with neo-progressive postmodernist rubbish - so has the so-called Conservative party. One of the main differences is that the labour party ended up purging itself of its socially conservative working class base at the parliamentary level, filling the parliamentary labour party with only champagne socialist types.
well the main populus decline issue is true reason that the main influx of immigration occurred during the blair era its sad the eu got the blame when 50% never came from europe but asia and africa but back to the highest immigration is during the labour government

I miss the old England, the days of splendor and glory.
This is the thinking that brought about the disastrous Brexit initiative.
@@peterkleinman3526 There is no denying that the England of the past was more glorious and greater.

VE DAY JAN 31ST 2020 BROUGHT ME HERE, YOUR WORDS STILL HAVE STANDING VERA
Rest In Peace Vera. Lifting our spirits for 80 years.
"If I should die, think only this of me:
That there’s some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England."
Indeed, there'll always be an England.
RIP to the Greatest singer in Britain
My grandmother told me her recollection of when Germany surrendered. She said they heard the news early in the morning (around 03:00) and the whole town came out en masse to sing, dance and celebrate those 6 years of hell being over. She is nearly 94 now and still remembers it all.
My parents too! 😁
God bless her, I hope she is still alive and in good health!
Magnificent lady in her efforts in keeping moral up during England’s darkest days, this song never fails to bring a lump in my throat. RIP Vera Lynn.
We need music like this now.
Ironic that this crops up on my recommended on brexit day. Such a powerful song. Makes you so proud to be English.
Never has there been a time since the war that this song became so relevant.
With deepest respect from Czech Republic
Rest In Peace Vera Lynn
Rest in peace Dame Lynn
"There will always be an England and England shall be free, if England means as much to you as England means to me!"

Queen Elizabeth brought me here, Vera’s songs never get old.🇬🇧🇬🇧
Should be played on the radio on St George's Day
I'm not even English, but I love this song so much.
I just learned that this melody was the revolutionary song in 1954's Animal Farm.
Ladies, and gentlemen! The politicians took this from you! “Reclaim your birthright!!”

This is our England . Muslims must never try and take that away .we true blood won’t let them .
I pray to our old gods that it is true that there'll always be an England...unfortunately the chances are slim if this current trajectory into madness continues.
R.I.P. Dame Vera you will always be in the hearts of English people , what an iconic figure the Best of British x

Look at what London was and then look at what it is today.
How did it happen so fast? Why did we let it happen?
Certainly a frightening prospect for the future, if the UK, doesn't leave.
calihartley2010 So basically you're cheering for the axis powers in this? Good to know.
we didnt its the forever guilty labour goverment.
ryan taylor
No, it isn't to do with the Labour government, though that was one part of the issue.
This was England 💪 sad that how things are now, if you know what I mean
