“NEVER ON SUNDAY” - LAURIE HOLLOWAY

* UK pianist, musical director and composer, Laurie Holloway MBE (born 1938) playing “Never On Sunday”, from the 1960 film of the same name. It is from his 1977 compilation LP album, “Laurie Holloway Plays 25 Piano Greats”. In the 1970s he was the musical director for singer Englebert Humperdinck. In 2004 he was the original MD for the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

I didn't realise this was originally composed for piano. A nice enough arrangement of a very catchy melody but disappointing that Laurie succumbed to the temptation to fade out at the end.

These LP compilations were more the K-Tel Woolworths type stuff (which is where I bought my copy) for parties and very easy listening etc. The question of 'fading' seemed superfluous and I fail to see what difference it would have made anyway under the circumatances. Still, each to their own ... 😄
