Big Lover Yes and no. For example we're still the world's biggest producer and consumer of lignite/brown coal (as of 2014) as a country of 80 million. China and India (maybe more) do produce and consume more coal as a whole though. And that is actually only half as much as in the seventies. Still a sixth of the world's production. Also, moving away from atomic power sounds good in theory, but doing so before you have enough power from renewable energy means having to turn to more fossil fuels. Looking at Chernobyl right now, I'm not convinced atomic is worse than fossil fuel for animals and plants. But you are right. Compared to most countries, we in Europe, are almost saints. What I listed for Germany probably exists similarly in several other countries. The middle east pretty much only got where it is now due to fossil fuels, Australia keeps coal mining in disfavour to the reefs and an estimated half billion people in Asia, Africa and South America are burning down woods in unsustainable slash and burn agriculture.

I was trying to push for these in CT. Liberals of course was on board, but the opposition, conservatives, argued it was a waste of money, and a better solution would be to loosen gun restrictions in the state to encourage hunting so it will be less deer to hit.
Alhut Aleazim your kidding right? The amount of crossings needed to fix the problem would cost tens of billions that would never be made up for waste of money
aidan wevodau lol. Did I say that the problem needs to be completely fixed? It at least has to save endangered species and what's your proof they will cost billions of dollars?
Livereater00 If they ever get tired of moving around, sure. From what I've watched in National Geographic and the like, animals prefer their freedom to move around.
That also would mean to be around other competitors, so it might not be as ideal for the hunter. You'd probably have an easier time finding dinner in a spot where there are no others.
The animal overpasses are good in one way bad in another. The one in Banff national Park there’s actually videos of animals that usually don’t come close to each other walking by each other over top structure. I seen a video and it was amazing when a bear walks right past dear.
Here is the thing. Animals ( with some exceptions ) dont think abput things. They just folow they instincts. A good part of they "inteligence" is genetics plus wathever they learned from they parents.
1. The government creating jobs is a bandaid fix that hurts more in the end. You’re using your tax dollars to pay yourself. And there is no return on investment from an animal crossing 2. Don’t you think the 8.3 billion spent on “vehicle repair, medical costs and other expenses” creates more jobs?
recently in Tucson Arizona, a wildlife bridge was built and there is a lot of controversies because we had to pay a small tax for it. Personally, I think it was worth it and the results have been exponentially increasing saving cars and animals. Animals take time to learn to use the bridges in the sky island ecosystem. So gradually its results have been more prevalent. I believe this was one of the first bridges in the USA and Americans are very stubborn with their money and are slow to change. But slowly I hope it will become more popular and supported. thanks for reading :)
We have some here in Colorado! I pass by some quite often on my way to work, it’s always amazing when there’s a heard crossing over while you’re driving by.
when I was 8 I remember having this idea. I just figured somebody has already thought of it and is working on something like this. My favorite Internet browser Ecosia has already perfected highways for wildlife. They are absolute pros when it comes to anything tree. I mean they've been doing it for ten years now, completely self funded. EDIT: I am just thankful somethings actually being done. I know how slow the US can be about things sometimes.
In america, this would mean more private funding, more government money going to national parks, dept of the interior, and infrastructure. Structure like these can be used to prevent natural disaster as well, like flooding and mudslides.
I visited New York last year (I'm from Greece) and we rented a car to visit the Niagara Falls. We were stunned by the amount of dead deer on the side of the road and how high the risk was to hit a dear on the highway... I mean the probability felt way higher than any regulation should aloud it to be since we are talking about serious accidents both for the deer and passengers
The idea of building a bridge for animals to cross in a great and smart idea! This saves a lot of money from accidents and insurances and most of all it saves both people and especially the animals because they have no forms of protection at all unliked people are protected in cars. I'm so happy for the ideas and for the animals. Thank you sir and hats off to you!
donkey 2 the only problem I see is that small towns won’t have enough money for it especially in the state I live in (New York) where all the taxes go to the city’s
I live in Calgary and have a place in Banff and it's funny how all the time I see black bears climbing the fences which are perfectly suitable for climbing as is the case when pine polls are used. I believe they should do something about this prominent issue in the Canadian Rockies. Just an interesting thought I had about these overpasses and underpasses.
I Quebec, Canada, when we had to construct a new highway, we just made the bridges that were going over rivers larger, so animals can cross from bot side of the river, underneath the highway. The bridge is a little more expensive then a normal smaller bridge, but it sill way cheaper than the design showed here!
I’m glad to live in a place we have these (I don’t live in Banff but I do take that highway occasionally and it’s actually cool to see animals cross them, I once saw a black bear with her cub on the highway once and one of her cubs was hit and killed sadly, but after those were built a decade later I saw a mama bear and her 2 cubs cross the first one they actually showed and it made me smile so much, but I did cry so I had to pull over
I actually grew up around the Kootenay/Banff area. For a long time I had NO idea that overpasses weren't everywhere. A simple solution that will need to be implemented if we want to press towards a sustainable future for ourselves and the wildlife that live with us.
Ok, the first example is straw picked. That is a horribly designed road with multiple distractions outside of deer. Take it from a guy who lives in a state with more deer than people (wyoming) there are easier and cheaper ways of protecting roads against wildlife strikes. Step 1: make a path wider than the road. The first example the trees come right up to the road, meaning drivers have absolutely no idea either or not an animal is coming. 2: reduce speed limits if the trees/obstructions cannot be removed, give drivers more time to react. 3: don't punish people for using their brights. A vast majority of animal strikes happen at dawn or dusk, and allowing the use of bright headlights increases the chances of drivers being able to see the animal, and react appropriately. (Night speed limits are also am option, forcing drivers to reduce speed, again giving them more time to react)
@@abhishekgorana372 where in India you saw those ? In my opinion India would be the last country to think about this. Our politicians are busy collecting votes and money.
KingTerra111 maybe if we could roll back some regulation so it didn’t cost millions of dollars. Than more conservatives and republicans would be on board
I live an hour away from Banff, and would drive though the park, and visit the park a lot as a kid. Growing up, I always thought the animal crossings were a normal thing that people made everywhere. I was surprised to learn that they were not common.
I hit a giant elk and it totaled my car two weeks (to the day) after I bought it. It ran down an almost 90 degree cliff on the side of the road before it ran straight into my headlight. Never have I ever been as scared as I was when that happened. I was all alone with no cell reception up in the mountains at dusk. If I had been a couple seconds later driving down that road, I probably wouldn’t be alive. We just recently got one of those built in my state after years of them working on it, and I just wish we could have more. They truly are lifesaver to both humans and animals.
Yeah it’s something called “money”. It’s also called a “budget”. Everyone wants problems solved but doesn’t realize that money can’t be spread evenly across everything in a society.
do you realise how much unnecessary money is wasted on the US military? $712 billion US dollars a year in discretionary spending - if even a tiny fraction of that was redirected to education, or infrastructure, or anything else that actually directly helps the people of the US, things could be so much better
Why aren't there more? Vehicle repairs and medical bills caused by roadkill accidents aren't paid by the government, but roads are. They prefer to let us pay the bill.
Finally the intelligent stewards are actually having an impact on our world! Thank goodness! Roadkill is a costly problem throughout the world and the conservation of our natural wildlife is vital. Thank you!
One thing to remember is that when your driving in animal territory or the wilderness, always make sure to slow down and be weary of animals jumping out. If it’s dark, use your brights. Because there is not animal crossing everywhere you have to do all you can to avoid the accidents before they could happen.
They should have been built along with the roads and highways. Also big landowners should give access through their lands for migrating herds instead of just putting up more barbed wire...
As great an idea as these animal crossings are, they are not perfect. As one environmental scientist pointed out to me, these animal crossings provide a pinch point for predators to exploit when prey want to cross. So while these crossings will reduce the number of animal deaths caused by collisions with vehicles, they increase the number of animal kills caused by predators, and also will increase the number of predators now that food is easier to come by. Overall I believe these crossings are a significant improvement to the situation for animal migration. But they are NOT a perfect answer.
and the crossings are aesthetically pleasing!
And expensive.

@@jamesnialG idk if this is what they mean but there is definitely an overabundance of deer here
I love those wildlife crossings in Banff. They're beautiful as well as useful. I'm very proud to live near them.
I live in Croatia and we have fences about 20 meters from the highways for all the way and on the highways we have atleast one animal overpass every 10 killometers, im pretty happy about how the situation is over here.
literally drove through banff for the first time this weekend and saw these structures in person, and now youtube recommended this video to me. the algorithm is real and it is creepy.
They're watching us.
Of course it real.Did you have location data on? If so, this is to be expected.
I was trying to push for these in CT. Liberals of course was on board, but the opposition, conservatives, argued it was a waste of money, and a better solution would be to loosen gun restrictions in the state to encourage hunting so it will be less deer to hit.
*+*
I highly doubt that. Anyway this would be way too expensive.
those conservatives are the most american guys i've seen on my life, solve animals getting hit by cars and dying by shooting the animals and dying.
Alhut Aleazim your kidding right? The amount of crossings needed to fix the problem would cost tens of billions that would never be made up for waste of money
aidan wevodau lol. Did I say that the problem needs to be completely fixed? It at least has to save endangered species and what's your proof they will cost billions of dollars?
...wouldn't a smart bear or a smart wolf just wait by this animal bridge and have the deer funnel right to them and become dinner?
Livereater00
If they ever get tired of moving around, sure.
Yup. This happens. It's also filled with other wolves doing same thing and deers migrating in giant group at any given time
Here is the thing. Animals ( with some exceptions ) dont think abput things. They just folow they instincts. A good part of they "inteligence" is genetics plus wathever they learned from they parents.
It would cost money but create a ton of jobs.
Economy is doing well, if that’s the argument, we’ll build em during a recession
1. The government creating jobs is a bandaid fix that hurts more in the end. You’re using your tax dollars to pay yourself. And there is no return on investment from an animal crossing
2. Don’t you think the 8.3 billion spent on “vehicle repair, medical costs and other expenses” creates more jobs?
We don’t have job problems in Canada as bad as you have it in the United States
Love cats we don’t have one in the U.S. At least not in the Midwest, you can’t walk down the street without seeing a “now hiring” sign.
@@kodyjohnson6294 if you see "hiring now" signs, isn't that a job problem where there are not enough laborers/workers?
recently in Tucson Arizona, a wildlife bridge was built and there is a lot of controversies because we had to pay a small tax for it.
Wildlife when humans step on leaves: gotta run
Also wildlife when a vehicle is going 100kmh: yo let's run towards it.
Dude have you tried crossing a highway with no crossing light? I’ve seen it done it’s very dangerous
I really want more in the us... PLEASE can we get these all around the world. It is more safe for the earth and for the humans and animals
No it really isn't. It's a waste.
@@prayforharambe6200 It's not really a waste considering lives are being saved here, but the economics of these things seem dubious at best.

Well I must say, I REALLY love your state. Went out to Steamboat Springs for a week and had a fantastic time.
We have some here in Colorado! I pass by some quite often on my way to work, it’s always amazing when there’s a heard crossing over while you’re driving by.
I lived in Banff for a while and everyone loves these wildlife passes! They make so much sense!
The thing that shocked me is Singapore having wildlife and SPACE for it.
Welcome to Animal Crossing.
yup in eu preaty much every highway build in last years has this
I want the world to know about this. It is such a great idea to have on highways.
when I was 8 I remember having this idea.
I'm a minor So my mom won't let me decide which Internet browser to use because she pays for it but when I pay for my oh I'm gonna use Ecosia

In america, this would mean more private funding, more government money going to national parks, dept of the interior, and infrastructure. Structure like these can be used to prevent natural disaster as well, like flooding and mudslides.
Yes, but it's never going to happen.
So does this mean no more crossy road? :(
Croatia has them too
Lol
A simple/ingenious solution to a very serious problem!
THE INTRO LITERALLY SCARED ME
Louisiana taxes should go towards this, new roads, and better schools. Not funding rich people like they do now.
Thank god for you, whoever did this video.
That elephant would wreck that car
I visited New York last year (I'm from Greece) and we rented a car to visit the Niagara Falls. We were stunned by the amount of dead deer on the side of the road and how high the risk was to hit a dear on the highway... I mean the probability felt way higher than any regulation should aloud it to be since we are talking about serious accidents both for the deer and passengers
This is why I love the internet, interesting videos like this that actually teach me about an issue and it's solution! :)
The idea of building a bridge for animals to cross in a great and smart idea!
This saves a lot of money from accidents and insurances and most of all it saves
both people and especially the animals because they have no forms of protection at
all unliked people are protected in cars.
I'm so happy for the ideas and for the animals.
Thank you sir and hats off to you!
donkey 2 the only problem I see is that small towns won’t have enough money for it especially in the state I live in (New York) where all the taxes go to the city’s
What was that one bear doing crossing it 66 times lol ?

If there are alot of wildlife bridges there should be strict laws that forbid any hunting near them
I'm republican and I love this idea

Why'd we have to politicize this?
In Canada they value all life.
Here in the Netherlands we have a lot of them
I like your country and your women.
11swallowedinthesea appreciate it! We do too
How’s the squirrel bridge doing?
I learned about these in elementary school like 20 years ago. Sad that there aren't more.
This is incredible, I hope this becomes more common around the world 🙏🏼
I Quebec, Canada, when we had to construct a new highway, we just made the bridges that were going over rivers larger, so animals can cross from bot side of the river, underneath the highway. The bridge is a little more expensive then a normal smaller bridge, but it sill way cheaper than the design showed here!
I’m glad to live in a place we have these (I don’t live in Banff but I do take that highway occasionally and it’s actually cool to see animals cross them, I once saw a black bear with her cub on the highway once and one of her cubs was hit and killed sadly, but after those were built a decade later I saw a mama bear and her 2 cubs cross the first one they actually showed and it made me smile so much, but I did cry so I had to pull over
I’ve been to Banff before. It’s such a beautiful place! I saw some of these crossing things and it’s really cool!
American: Why there aren't more
Me a dutch: every where I go I see that bridge
Even in india i see them at many places even under pass in railways track also.
America just care about profit.

In my opinion India would be the last country to think about this. Our politicians are busy collecting votes and money.

because they’re expensive.
edit: i was kind of right.
We need more people to look at this and say, yes we need more of these
KingTerra111 maybe if we could roll back some regulation so it didn’t cost millions of dollars. Than more conservatives and republicans would be on board
I live an hour away from Banff, and would drive though the park, and visit the park a lot as a kid. Growing up, I always thought the animal crossings were a normal thing that people made everywhere. I was surprised to learn that they were not common.
We really need more of these. Specially in Philippines, seen too much roadkills and lost animals in roads.
Ever been in Norway? They are animalcrossings everywhere there.
Lol nei. Kanskje et par steder på østlandet. Men langt i fra sannheten
Our road bridges are dangerously unsafe, there’s no way the US government is going to spend money on bridges for animals.
Maybe they should start taxing billionaires and getting rid of tax loopholes.
How to desjgn something well:
Stel 1: HIGHER A GODDAM ARCHITECT
Nah. Those designs would be ridiculously expensive. Hire an engineer.
And those will be over pragmatic, hire both and add somebody specific to what the building's for.
Hire a tighter budget
They’ll figure it out
Hire any human to redesign your bad typing
Hire a team of capable peole, each with a specific skill to make your RPG,oh wait, design party.
"And grizzly bears."
*Shows black bear.*
Teacher: Why are you laughing at a serious topic like Wildlife crossing?
My brain: _they should call it _*_Animal Crossing_*
Wow. I wanna help. These should be everywhere.
jesus COST??? as one commenter said, the cost of just one raptor fighter jet would build 113 wildlife bridges
As a resident of Washington state, I did not know there was an animal road crossing here but that makes me very happy.
Yeah it’s something called “money”. It’s also called a “budget”. Everyone wants problems solved but doesn’t realize that money can’t be spread evenly across everything in a society.
Somebody understands
do you realise how much unnecessary money is wasted on the US military? $712 billion US dollars a year in discretionary spending - if even a tiny fraction of that was redirected to education, or infrastructure, or anything else that actually directly helps the people of the US, things could be so much better
If build crossing roads for animals do they need to pay tax or toll fees?
soccer Gj you could charge a tax for visiting the nature park. Like how some moutain resorts have mountain rescuer tax.
RoScFan I think you mean an entry fee... those exist dummy how do you think the park operates
In Germany we have "green bridges" :)
Why aren't there more? Vehicle repairs and medical bills caused by roadkill accidents aren't paid by the government, but roads are. They prefer to let us pay the bill.
I love a good productive solution to problems that affect so many.
I still feel like squirrels and rabbits would just freeze in the middle of the road no matter what ya do
We need this in Australia so bad. The amount of dead kangaroo’s and wombats you see on the side of the road is just insane
1:36 my time has come
Finally the intelligent stewards are actually having an impact on our world!
Because there is not animal crossing everywhere you have to do all you can to avoid the accidents before they could happen.
very interesting!
Such a good video really inspiring stuff!
That's awesome I've never seen one of those
They should have been built along with the roads and highways.
Very interesting, thank you for sharing.
Nah the animals we're just impatient to wait for the car to meet a date
That deer was suicidal
Or maybe it was a dare
