Balut sa puti ( pronounced as bah-loot sah pooh-tee) is the best kind of balut because it has richer taste and more succulent juice. From here in the Philippines especially in Pateros. A typical sized balut is about three inches in length. A "balut sa puti" on the other hand was a bit smaller and the duckling wasn't that visible as it was still wrapped inside its yolk. It was 14 to 17 days old from the moment it was hatched until being steamed/boiled prior to selling it to the market. The typical balut was 18 to 21 days old and the duckling was more developed and visible when you cracked open its egg. The latter was a preferred choice by many balut afficionados here being sold warm by balut vendors in their rattan baskets walking down the streets at night time shouting "Baluuuuutttt...Pennnnoooyyyy...Baluuuutttttt!!!" These folks are friendly. Some of them also sell crunchy "chicharon" One of the best balut experience one can have is on the busy sidewalks of Manila where Filipino street foodies are located. Currently, one balut costs about fifteen pesos or roughly around thirty-five cents (US$) . For those who doesn't know, there's another egg thats an alternative to balut and it's called penoy (pronounced as pen-oi) which has no duckling in it yet and looked similar to a boiled chicken egg. Penoy tastes like the yolk found inside balut and paired nicely with salt and vinegar like the balut.

That’s actually not true. According to animal researchers, some of these duckling fetuses are developed enough (have formed a neural tube) to where they can and do feel pain. Usually at about the 18th day I believe. Some are boiled earlier than that.
You don't call a delicacy of a certain country "disgusting". Calling something based on their culture and heritage disgusting is disrespectful. Its almost the same as insulting their country. For example, I may not like sushi or other raw stuff, but I won't call it disgusting simply because it doesn't suit my taste buds.

Danny B I know I’m 3 years late I did my research and it can only happen if there’s a parasite inside the mother that laid the egg but in 90% case there won’t be a parasite in the egg
we've literally ate meat for 200,000 years now we're not? sorry my man meat's a critical part of the average human diet now. I really really hate vegans and I hope they burn in hell or some other shithole that they came from. I mean, cats eat rats and fish but why aren't you stopping them? we're omnivores, our teeth are designed to eat meat and plants. why not just eat plants, you might say? cause we're omnivores. we need both to live a healthy life.
Some of the comments scare me. How can some people not know what is happening in their own country in regards to battery farms, mass slaughterhouses, animal testing and cruelty all happening in their own countries? It boggles me. They are either kids or do not see the world past their four walls. Also, most of those making ignorant comments seem to be Americans who do not know how to spell... Interesting. Just an observation.
well, because people dont see those places. they are all behind closed doors. aless someone selectively chooses a documentary on slaughterhouses or battery farms ot animal testing, they won't know about it. usually after watching such a documentary there is an emotional reacion and the viewer will temporarily stop eating meat. But then the effect wears off. There's a massive distance between the meat industry-the breeding and butchering of animals and the consumer. i have a massive problem with industrial fishing and animal farming. It is the inhumane industrial level of it that effects me. if im an ancient farmer, and i kill and have my wife cook an animal for the family to eat, that's normal and fine, just as fishing with a small net for one's own family is. its the industral level that is immoral. we have for one hundred thousand years since being modern humans, and humanoids date back one million years, eaten meat. so there's nothing immoral about that. but the greed and the conditions animals are kept in with modern industrial methods is horrible.and anyone seeing them should not want to eat meat now. incidentally getting rid of cattle farming would have a big effect on easing global warming.
I love to eat meat, but I've never eaten a thing that looks like it fell out of a tree and is covered in slime. I won't judge others for eating it, and I would be open to try it, but I don't see why it is insulting to say it looks disgusting. It really does look like it should not be eaten.
How I eat Balut: I crack out the egg, I place it into the bowl (TRY TO GET MOST OF THE DUCK LIQUID INTO THE BOWL) then simply enjoy the dish. Most Western people say it's "yuck" due to them not drinking the delicious duck juice that you eat with, and also you should eat everything else first before eating the yolk. Well, That's how I eat Balut.
Me and my girl are Filipino. Once we ate balut. I ate everything except the shell. She opened the shell, spilled the juice, ate the yolk and threw the rest. I was like "WTF?!?!?!?"
I used to keep a trio of ducks, and sold their eggs to a local Vietnamese market/restaurant. It was fairly rare, but every now and then the owner would request a batch of balut. I feel awful for what I did to those ducklings, even though the pay was good. But if anything makes up for it, know that the adults were very happy birds, who were treated more like family pets than livestock. They lived out their entire lifespan, and passed away gently from old age.
So its ok to eat eggs and chicken but not the embryo?its just a meat, people eat different kinds of animal meats, whats the difference? You think its cruel?Eating cows, pigs and chicken is not?#hypocrites.
I dont think its cruel. i do find it a little disturbing to seek out a food that is essentially an undeveloped fetus as its very gross looking compared to normal food.
@@alchemic85 Yeah their logic doesn't make sense. It's all disgusting. At the end of the day, all meats are dead bodies that people eat. Not sure why they thought comparing them all made it sound better
Host: "Now eat that" Girl with long curly hair: "Ha-ha, ha-ha, ha-ha, No." Thank you. I haven't laughed this strongly since coming home from the hospital this forth of July week.
the reason China eats lots of weird stuff is because they relied on rice which was way more efficient than rye and wheat in europe however when there was a famine because people only ate rice it got rly bad and people ate anything they got there hands on like bear, dog etc as well china has so many different cultures and languages its pretty diverse
in the philippines we dont eat balut using forks ( most of us )... first we crack the egg on a hard surface, have a sip with the soup inside the egg, (add salt if u want), eat the baby duck first as a whole, then remove the white part of the egg ( some calls that bato), then eat the yellow part of the egg....
Aman, they are fertilized eggs -- so there is a duck actually inside. Regular eggs are not fertilized. They incubate the eggs until the duck inside is the right age, then they just boil it. It sort of tastes like duck stew. Just extra fresh and soft. Looks yucky, tastes heavenly.
***** Your just being a person who makes a person happy. Michael Ballack You mean *i* right? Just a correction anyways, i am a philippine person who likes balut w/ salt so much.
it taste good I swear. hahaha! actually you don't have to eat the whole thing. I'm a filipino and I only eat the yolk and the soup inside. this is an exotic street food in the Philippines not like a regular everyday food.. some here are just exaggerating.
Why the crap are people shaken by these fertilized eggs when they eat worse things every day... I mean I don't think these poor baby ducks feel as much pain in their "lives" as the average slaughtered pig, chicken, lamb, cow etc.
This seemed like normal food growing up in the Asian culture in the US. I didn’t think about it until my boyfriend refused to try it… well, people eat eggs and full grown poultry all the time. I realized that there’s a lot more “uncommon” Asian food than I thought. I just got some durian dessert for him so we’ll see 😂
98% of this comment section: “Eww! It’s gross.” (It’s ok, I respect your opinion) 2% of this comment section: Actual people that have tried and know that it taste actually good.(I ate some for 15 year I can definitely say it’s good) Before you call me a “low IQ psychopathic idiot”, you should see videos about people that eat actual disgusting things such as Dog or Cat meat
Unless they’re vegan, these people are hypocrites who also love eating other animals and posting them on social media but keeps saying this or that is gross and justifying it that this one was boiled so it’s not the same thing just to make themselves feel better. Yeah.
My only objection is the barely-cooked bird. I don't normally like eating raw or rare meat, but if it was thoroughly cooked, then it's no different than eating a baby sheep or baby cow. It's just meat .
New duck egg, *I am not eating that shit* Roasted Duck *This one tastes good, i hope i can eat this everyday* And wow! I've never seen peope over reacting to duck eggs but no to fully grown ducks which we enjoy eating and we don't even give a f*ck about it. Ducks be like *Fuck you humans*
It's not the prettiest thing to eat but I would recommend people trying it :) If you can't stand what it looks like, try 'Penoy' which is the same as 'Balut' but it's been left to develop less so it wouldn't have any visible embryo parts yet. And no, it's not 'inhumane'. It's probably more humane than that fried chicken you get from KFC or something. If trying new experiences isn't your thing, then it's best that you just leave it XD
It’s an organism with too much definite potential too eat. Eggs have zero potential to experience life on earth, because they’re just unfertilized. Embryos can also feel the same pain we feel from the 15th day of incubation, this far in they feel all of the combustion from boiling. Since they aren’t mammals it isn’t obvious to us that this is inhumane (imagine the mammal equivalent). Probably more humane then the experience a store bought chicken goes through, I get that point.
@@asimion9470 the chicks would've been destined to experience a life of suffering in a dark, crowded barn on an industrial "meat factory" if it were to be born instead of eaten.

Ate the Filipino and Vietnamese versions with their respective dressings. I def prefer the version of the duck egg that wasn't developed as much. Ate five of the little ones in Hanoi .
In the Philippines, we have 2 ‘types’ of this balut - 16 days and 18 days. In a 16-day old balut, the duck embryo isn’t fully formed like that yet, at least in my experience and sometimes, you don’t even notice it that much so everytime I eat one, I prefer the 16-day balut. The 18-day balut, however, they’re sometimes hairy and you can already see its head. I personally avoid those ones. Although, all the baluts that I’ve eaten don’t look exactly like the one in the video if that makes sense. It’s so formed and bigger which would make me not wanting to eat it too.
Currently eating 2pcs of balut and thought of watching Balut Videos. The US version of Balut looks strange. All the embryo that I eat are black in color with the feathers included. Also, we dont eat Balut with Fork or Spoon! Just crack the egg, drink the juice, open the egg, add salt or vinegar, then eat it whole! Delicious!
see that sounds good on paper its just the mutated little duck being in there that is very shocking to me, even as an asian american. i definitely respect it as ive eaten and loved plenty of foods many americans consider gross but i dont think i could handle the thought of this
Ok y'all eat chickens and ducks just fine, so what's wrong with eating unborn chickens and ducks? The males just get killed and thrown away after birth anyways, at least they aren't being wasted lol. If anything, they saved those ducklings from having to live a horrible life cramped into tiny areas with terrible living conditions, forced to eat and get fattened up until they can barely move anymore.

@@0813lia that the reason why we eat Filipinos. My idea, change your cultur to a better one, its not hard alot are better
KeIIion ok
we've literally ate meat for 200,000 years now we're not? sorry my man meat's a critical part of the average human diet now. I really really hate vegans and I hope they burn in hell or some other shithole that they came from. I mean, cats eat rats and fish but why aren't you stopping them? we're omnivores, our teeth are designed to eat meat and plants. why not just eat plants, you might say? cause we're omnivores. we need both to live a healthy life.
chicken doesnt remind me of a human fetus while im looking at someone eat it. lol
@@JaimzeGamesok well deal with it. Our food wasn’t made for westerners
I been eating balut my whole life until I found out there was a baby duck in there
Same!
lol
+Alec Paacua same here haha, parents fed me that when I was younger and it's so delicious even till today.
wtf thats just weird! xD
Whats the difference between eating a baby duck and a grandmother peking duck? :p
Probably because they think McDonalds is actually healthy lmao
Why does it scare you? It makes me glad that they are repulsed by such things when shown.

I love to eat meat, but I've never eaten a thing that looks like it fell out of a tree and is covered in slime. I won't judge others for eating it, and I would be open to try it, but I don't see why it is insulting to say it looks disgusting. It really does look like it should not be eaten.
***** It may look disgusting, but it really taste good esp. the yolk and the its juice. Try eating one and you'll know.

pingboo Ü i have never tasted one tho ;-; i wish i am brave enought to do it
How I eat Balut: I crack out the egg, I place it into the bowl (TRY TO GET MOST OF THE DUCK LIQUID INTO THE BOWL) then simply enjoy the dish. Most Western people say it's "yuck" due to them not drinking the delicious duck juice that you eat with, and also you should eat everything else first before eating the yolk. Well, That's how I eat Balut.
That's how I eat the Balut too.
i eat my balut that way :)
I don't eat the embryo doe just the yellow thingy.
I think that'd be the yolk area
i eat it like this:i crack the egg using a table then i drink the soup theni close my eyes and slurp it so i dont know if its old or its still young
Me and my girl are Filipino.
Once we ate balut.
I ate everything except the shell.
She opened the shell, spilled the juice, ate the yolk and threw the rest.
I was like "WTF?!?!?!?"
Im like her... I don't like the hard white part 😂

Vietnam : finally , a good f***ing food
Same energy as "IM NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS!"
At least you’re conscious of your actions and feel some kind of way, shows growth :)
So its ok to eat eggs and chicken but not the embryo?its just a meat, people eat different kinds of animal meats, whats the difference? You think its cruel?Eating cows, pigs and chicken is not?#hypocrites.
ItsMeKarl Scorpio Respect!🙌🙌
Retarded statement. People eat dogs in parts of the world too. Are you saying that's not disgusting?
its not
I dont think its cruel. i do find it a little disturbing to seek out a food that is essentially an undeveloped fetus as its very gross looking compared to normal food.
@@alchemic85 Yeah their logic doesn't make sense. It's all disgusting. At the end of the day, all meats are dead bodies that people eat. Not sure why they thought comparing them all made it sound better

Thank you. I haven't laughed this strongly since coming home from the hospital this forth of July week.
Im Chinese and I even find this disgusting, so you know how weird that is
the reason China eats lots of weird stuff is because they relied on rice which was way more efficient than rye and wheat in europe however when there was a famine because people only ate rice it got rly bad and people ate anything they got there hands on like bear, dog etc as well china has so many different cultures and languages its pretty diverse
Yup
Also I knew a guy who says this egg thing is his favorite food.
Many region in China also have this food. Calm down, banana.
Lmao this food came from china. Chinese traders brought it here in ph.
Aliens:That's why we're scared of humans and don't go to earth tour!
in the philippines we dont eat balut using forks ( most of us )... first we crack the egg on a hard surface, have a sip with the soup inside the egg, (add salt if u want), eat the baby duck first as a whole, then remove the white part of the egg ( some calls that bato), then eat the yellow part of the egg....
Lol at the coworkers being too squeamish. Most of them probably eat burgers and bacon and what not.
And that's comparable to eating an undeveloped bird fetus?
If this video is chinese... Imagine the backlash
true, but bc racist ppl can’t tell the difference between asian cultures, they still ended up blaming us for the pandemic as well
This is a baby, sorry
No doubt about it
According to pro-abortion people, it's a clump of cells.
Imagine having the option to eat your abortions, and an extra $2 for beef stew 🤠
It can’t feel pain yet because it’s brain hasn’t developed enough
Its boiled baby duck. In an egg. I don't see why it's disgusting.
its boiled ? wouldn't the liquid solidify ? like a regular egg I mean ??????
Aman, they are fertilized eggs -- so there is a duck actually inside. Regular eggs are not fertilized. They incubate the eggs until the duck inside is the right age, then they just boil it.
It sort of tastes like duck stew. Just extra fresh and soft.
Looks yucky, tastes heavenly.
its pretty delicious..
Don thank you for the info :)

In vietnam, I was eating Balut. I didn't want to eat the hard egg white, so I feed it to the dogs, :3

it taste good I swear. hahaha! actually you don't have to eat the whole thing. I'm a filipino and I only eat the yolk and the soup inside. this is an exotic street food in the Philippines not like a regular everyday food.. some here are just exaggerating.
it looks cool to me
You are sooooo right it tastes AMAZING
SuperMidgetMan only one? Pfft
Why the crap are people shaken by these fertilized eggs when they eat worse things every day... I mean I don't think these poor baby ducks feel as much pain in their "lives" as the average slaughtered pig, chicken, lamb, cow etc.
I know this is not worser than halal

Still disgusting, inhuman, caveman shit, still no disrespect to Filipinos though 👍
"Buh-loot" every Filipino did a face palm rn
This seemed like normal food growing up in the Asian culture in the US. I didn’t think about it until my boyfriend refused to try it… well, people eat eggs and full grown poultry all the time. I realized that there’s a lot more “uncommon” Asian food than I thought. I just got some durian dessert for him so we’ll see 😂
I suppose cheese is just as weird for people outside of Europe 🙈. It's rotten milk after all.
Well the difference between this and grown “meat” is that you’re drinking amniotic fluid 💀
People do eat meat. They just don't eat it raw or crawling around the way you lot do, which adds a dimension of animal cruelty to your cuisine
eggs don't have a embryo in them
it's a natural food in my country. why so many dislikes?
Because western people act like people all over the world are going to eat the same things
@Ryan Roshan oh no I was replying to the comment sorry if I made it seem like I was talking to you

You need to have a beer with that. At least a six-pack for one of those eggs. Maybe two six-packs.
98% of this comment section: “Eww! It’s gross.” (It’s ok, I respect your opinion)
2% of this comment section: Actual people that have tried and know that it taste actually good.(I ate some for 15 year I can definitely say it’s good)
Before you call me a “low IQ psychopathic idiot”, you should see videos about people that eat actual disgusting things such as Dog or Cat meat
It's just meat
.
Why do people keep saying it's raw or barely cooked? Balut is fully hard-boiled like a regular boiled egg. It is a cooked food.
Every pinoy kid's nightmare
New duck egg, *I am not eating that shit*
Roasted Duck *This one tastes good, i hope i can eat this everyday*
And wow! I've never seen peope over reacting to duck eggs but no to fully grown ducks which we enjoy eating and we don't even give a f*ck about it.

Bruh people need to understand just cause it’s edible doesn’t mean it should be eaten.
I eat a lot of different stuff but this right here is crossing the line 🤣
This is just an egg but cooked differently
"you signed up" - "you will be hearing no chewing" 😂💀
It's not the prettiest thing to eat but I would recommend people trying it :)
If you can't stand what it looks like, try 'Penoy' which is the same as 'Balut' but it's been left to develop less so it wouldn't have any visible embryo parts yet.
And no, it's not 'inhumane'. It's probably more humane than that fried chicken you get from KFC or something.
If trying new experiences isn't your thing, then it's best that you just leave it XD
That chicken was at least hatched then killed, wasn't cooked alive while waiting to open its eyes to the world
It’s an organism with too much definite potential too eat.
There are way more Filipino food like sisig, banana cue, kaldereta, dried mangoes, chicharron, lumpia, etc. that we can offer to our visitors especially foreigners (not just balut, that most Filipinos don't eat). I get it, balut is part of our culture (especially in rural areas) but it doesn't help in promoting our cuisine. In result, ignorant people are stereotyping. This balut trend needs to stop. Most Filipinos don't even eat it.
"When the only representations of your culture available are negative, it’s no surprise if some Filipinos internalize all that shaming."
No thanks
I would hate to be forced to eat balut
Pinoy
Currently eating 2pcs of balut and thought of watching Balut Videos. The US version of Balut looks strange. All the embryo that I eat are black in color with the feathers included.
Also, we dont eat Balut with Fork or Spoon! Just crack the egg, drink the juice, open the egg, add salt or vinegar, then eat it whole! Delicious!
not gonna lie, I shuddered when they took that first bite
Enough youtube for today
If GMM saw this, they will be like "WHATTTT!?!?!"
for those who are wondering what it taste like. imagine hardboiled eggyolk and chicken and mashing it together
see that sounds good on paper its just the mutated little duck being in there that is very shocking to me, even as an asian american. i definitely respect it as ive eaten and loved plenty of foods many americans consider gross but i dont think i could handle the thought of this
My mother never told me what it was so I just digged in it, it was delicious
The thumbnail bothered me. Not because it’s a duck fetus that was boiled but because of the way they were eating it. NO
Ok y'all eat chickens and ducks just fine, so what's wrong with eating unborn chickens and ducks? The males just get killed and thrown away after birth anyways, at least they aren't being wasted lol. If anything, they saved those ducklings from having to live a horrible life cramped into tiny areas with terrible living conditions, forced to eat and get fattened up until they can barely move anymore.
Guess what. They could have had unfertilized eggs. Simpler, and equal in nutritional value.
No double standards here.
@@curious_one1156 What's the difference in terms of humanity? It's literally just putting use to the otherwise useless male ducks
The wrong is that it's disgusting.
