That recommendation was exactly what i needed!!! Thanks :D I am a very scared person, but i wanna start to lose my fear and face ghost/spooky/horror stories, and i think stories like that should be a good start!
OMG i loved the bear and the nightingale so much by katherine arden so i've really been looking forward to reading small spaces!! and ive just started the wayward children series and i'm really enjoying it!!
I love the city if ghosts! I didn't think of Casper but now I totally do! I hope there's a show! I'm one of those that thought there were too many HP refs lol Recently read the Prosper redding one and adored it!!
I was also. Incredibly excited about Casper turning into a real boy. There was a period in time when I watched that movie every day after school just for that part haha.
I love all the books you mentioned! I just read Dead Voices (the second Small Spaces book) and I actually think I enjoyed it even more than the first one!
I LOVE your intro! I just finished and did a review on IT by Stephen King but is definitely one that will give you nightmares, though I'd still recommend it for Halloween!
These are excellent recommendations! I love this as a complete scardy cat 😆 I love the Wayward Children series & City of Ghosts! VE Schwab’s other novel The Near Witch is another spooky but not scary book 😊
Books mentioned: *City of Ghosts* (main character able to see ghosts ; her parents've a tv ghost hunting show ; has harry potter references ) *The Dreadful tale of Prosper Redding* (demon lives in main character's head ; bantery ; supernatural creatures like goblins, witches) *Small spaces* (main character gets a book n read it ; goes to a field trip n' ends up realizing that the people/story mentioned in the aforementioned book is real) *The wayward children series* (3 books, varying in tones n creepiness ; wherein children end up going into magical worlds via doorways ; 1st murder mystery - graphic scenes of murder; 2nd gothic story , reminiscent of Dracula or Frankenstein . Edit Sept,2021: has 6 books now I guess)
Loved small spaces, the city of ghost, and dead Voices and tunnel of Bones, which are the next book in the series. (Of course. ) I have both of the other books you recommended as well. I read the first in the Wayward childhood series (or whatever the series name is called. ) I haven't read the other one, the Alexandra Blackan one yet.

For romance + spooky atmosphere I'd totally recommend the Experiment in Terror series by Karina Halle! Soooooo good!
