Recently, I saw a comment that said the only reason EXO 'appear' sing well on music shows, concerts, banks, etc. is that they're always lip syning. While that doesn't usually bother me, I was surprised at the amount of attention it got. So I thought why not make a simple video about EXO doing the exact opposite of that. Anyway, enjoy x

Here's the thing, for example 04:07 we can see not only they can SING LIVE but at the same time their mics are not heavily reverbed and autotuned. Here Sehun talks to the mic that he is singing to and his speech voice sounds almost the same as his normal voice.
My point is, it's a popular thing for idols to stop for a sec in the middle of the song and prove the audience that they sing live but often their mic is so autotuned and reverbed their singing sounds quite robotic. So singing live does not always equals to sounding good but exo for sure sounds good🤤
They just can't believe that a group could be so talented to sing like that while dancing. They just got used to their idols lip synching their "live" autotuned performances.

If you have listened to too many songs very often you will know the difference of live vocals, with backing track or lipsync.

I think, sometimes, the directors decide if a performer will do a lip sync for them to rest. A concert with 2 to 3 hrs length is too tiring for their vocals. And there's nothing wrong with it. Try to watch CNBlue's concerts, they never lip sync during concert but it doesn't exceeded to 2 hrs straight performance because they need to rest especially when it is for 2 or 3 consecutive nights. And just like boy bands, imagine, singing live, talking, sometimes they shout to make the audience hype and dancing at the same time will not make them tired? Not to protect EXO but it can happen to any group. They have their directors that will decide what they will do and not to do esp during concerts.

actually chen did reveal in an interview that they have to purposely breathe in an unusual manner (directing their mouth below the mic to breathe) so that the sound can't be caught in the mic :) but of course, a lot of groups use backing tracks with difficult choreo, and understandably so
And to tell you a fancam is not that reliable with the vocals coz that video may have been taken from a not so good quality phone or taken with too loud fanchants so yeah. You can look at encore stages if you want coz they never use back tracks on encore pure vocals just instrumentals

I came to know from some of my Korean friends... backtrack always play in the background but only with lowest volume..when they do hard choregraphy where lot's of jumping is required only then they use it...rest of the concert they don't do it.
