    @mattc.310 Рік тому +8

    Interesting acquisition. You and Rory can have a ford wrecker pull off. That winch will pull a mountain over. Speed can be had with a few parts changes. High speed isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's a single line, but it'll get some work done. Get the wiring right so you're not chasing gremlins all the time. It'll be fun to see where this goes.

  • @CR500R

    I've restored 9 of those F250/F350 trucks over the last 20 years. I highly recommend a Saginaw power steering pump conversion, no more whine, way more reliable. The third brake light wasn't a thing until '94. On the '92 and '93, it's only a cargo light. In '94 is when Ford added the 3rd brake light/cargo light combo. I'd also do a ZF-5 speed manual transmission swap. It's literally bolt in. Rory's truck is a ZF-5 speed. Far far more reliable than that E4OD automatic. That's what makes Fords so fun, is their interchangeability!

    • @timothygeiger8271
      @timothygeiger8271 Рік тому +4

      What interchangabilty? Back in the day you had to figure out if it had a Cleveland, Windsor, or an M. One wouldn't bolt to the others transmission, components wouldn't interchange.
      At least with Chevrolet a small block would bolt to anything else. That's why most people that do mods always goes with Chevrolet, easier to work on, actual TRUE interchangabilty.
      When i was going to automotive school, we always had a motto. If a manufacturer could find a way to screw something up, it would be Ford.

We’re simplifying hundreds of thousands of acres of habitat into large crop fields without weedy boundaries and fence rows, and dousing them with insecticides. It’s super obvious if you live around agriculture why they struggle. I live on a mountain and have fields up here, and rent a valley farm around crop agriculture, and in the valley there are less bees, no bats, fewer tree swallows, etc. I ain’t confused about what’s killing the bees. It’s happening in front of my eyes every day.
      Also effective broad spectrum herbicides that kill off weeds in fields, and simplified rotations that no longer include years of hay or pasture.

    Usually when a wrecker starts winching the RPM raises to like 3000 RPM. At that RPM the winch will be fast. So that feature does not seem to work.. I assume a lever on the back can controll the RPM of the engine.
    A hydraulic winch is way way stronger then electric ones. And should be as fast.

    Hydraulic winches speed is dependent on where the PTO is installed on the Transmission. If it’s installed in a constant speed licit will be slow. Since that truck is setup on a hydraulic pump run off the engine itself the speed will vary depending on the engine RPM. I’ve installed tons of PTO’s and winches of all sizes up to 120 ton on trucks with my dads company and I’ve seen and ran hydraulic winches that are much faster than electric. The only winches I’ve ever ran that are faster are chain driven that are connected via a splitter/transfer case as you can use the transmission gears and engine speed to spin them faster.

    11:18 I use those electrical connectors for my winch on a cradle on the front of my '03 Rubicon. It has a 2nd battery for the winch in the trunk and I used #2 welding cable for the plugs from the battery. I have plugs front and rear so I can use the winch either front or back. I also made up a jumper cable like this one to use the winch battery for starting vehicles so that there is no danger of wiping out the $700 PCM. Warn 9000# winch and cradle is 110#. The welding cable insulation is very durable and the fine strands of wire makes it flexible. All electrical connections/lugs are both crimped and soldered. I use the marine battery switch to tie the batteries together so that I can jump start the Jeep easily. I can also carry the winch, battery, and chain to where I cannot get the Jeep to assist someone.

Panard rod comes down to the axle to center it with it not having the full springs anymore . But the adjustable height and better axle movement is worth it . Run them at 70psi so the ruck sits high and only drops 3" when i load a 20ft panel van so it sits where it should be when unloaded on the std springs . One of those easy worth it mods .

    I think I would build the roll cage in the laymo before i put the roof back on. It would be easier to weld the top. You could just clamp the roof in place when you need to check for clearance.

    I would leave the hydraulic winch on the truck, it can run all day without overheating. I would add an electric winch for short pulls.

      Quit your complaining, Robby! Here in San Jose, California... $5.90 a gal. at the station down the street from me. And my 24 gal. tank is below 1/4, dammit! I've been watching in hope the price would go down a little... but it only seems to go up. It was around $5.60 a week ago.

    Just a couple things to help you along with this... Econoline van with the 460 will have the power steering brackets to install the Saginaw power steering pump, the Fsuperduty will have front leaf springs to lift the front or you could go with the shackle reversal kit, most also have the parts to upgrade to the hydroboost brakes. The medium duty F600/F700 doors will have the better "west coast" mirrors.

    Ps get a double winch boom & those wheel doilies look amazingly new!

    Robby, on that Ford tow truck, I saw you have manual front hubs. Hopefully you have manual transfer case. . Either way,
    Both Ford and I suggest that after you take truck out of ,4wd, you back the truck up about ten feet. This action positively releases the spline locks between hub and axle. They will unlock with normal driving but that little effort ensures unlocking and with front wheels in free wheel mode saving your fuel mileage. In my 3 trucks with manual hubs/transfer, I get 3-5 mpg improvement. The shift on fly unis keep the splines engaged so front drive axles are always spinning thus pulling mpg down.
    Yes I'm a blue oval man. Sorry, but after you get used to using this truck you'll understand why Ford is #,1 seller of trucks
    for 42 yrs running. Hope to see you at your sponsored event..

    90s ford 460 7.5 L engine by the look at the top of that. Top notch engine, all the power you could want, but better have a good card since it loves to drink gas :p Favorite memories of my childhood were made in a 91 F350 with that same engine, as a tow truck. Great truck, almost 300k miles before the output shaft in the transmission let go. Still have the truck, hoping I can make it go again someday.
