thank you. always wanted to try needle felting beautiful woodland creatures…. your video inspired me. by breaking it down it and teaching this way, it is not so intimidating.
It's my pleasure! Woodland and wild animals have my heart. Thank you for your feedback on breaking down the process this way. I will work on doing that more. I hope you enjoy making your animals. And don't worry if it takes time. This was the third Fennec Fox I made. The first two weren't working. But I really wanted to make one. So I didn't give up. :)
@@the-needle-felter I've just recently got interested but I think you have me wanting to just jump in with both feet and start doing these woodland creatures. You did an awesome job showing every step. He/She is absolutely beatiful. I love this craft.
Thank you! I'm so happy that you want to jump in. It's so fun and I find it relaxing. I love the sound of felting. Plus, you can make almost any animal you can think of!
I hope you continue to do more videos and that your channel grows. This was amazing to watch. You are a great artist and teacher. Please keep it coming. Thanks 🎉
Thank you! I'm still learning a lot about teaching on UA-cam. I was just thinking that I learned so much from this fox. This was supposed to be a 10 minute video. But there was so much to share! I appreciate your response. It means a lot to me. Thank you again.
You are so welcome! I was just thinking this morning that there is something very special about needle felting and working with wool. I've been needle felting for 6 years now. It offers so many possibilities that it often feels like I'm just getting started! You can make almost anything with wool.
I am a beginner felter and this was definitely challenging for me, but I did get a cute result. I also learned a lot of things I never thought of before. This is a great tutorial. Thank you so much!
I'm so glad! It is not a simple project so you should be very proud! I'm so glad that you are happy with the result. I'm truly thrilled that you made one.
What a delightful video! Thank you so much. Watching it, I was almost sitting next to you! You explain things so well and at a lovely, relaxing pace. Thank you for the pattern too - a great help.
Awww, you made my day! Thank you for your kind words. I'm so glad that you found this relaxing and helpful. I tried a few new ideas with this video so it's extra rewarding to hear your response to it. :)
So happy I found your channel ! Amazing work and the free templates are so useful .. your videos really got me back to trying new crafty hobbies which I adore ❤ Please continue being amazing and blessing us with even more videos like this ☺️☺️
Thank you! I'm glad the templates are helpful. And very happy that you are back to crafting. I just feel better about everything when I make things. I am at work on another project for a video now. ❤
You are so kind, thank you. I am planning to make the Irina Hughes elephant tutorial from FeltingTutorials.com. Maybe I can make a sleeping baby elephant after I learn how to make her standing adult one? I will keep that in mind. I'm looking forward to making the big one. And I love rhinos. They are so beautiful. I will keep that in mind also. That would be an interesting challenge.
Oooh I bet that would be a fun challenge even standing up! I’m currently trying to make two 30cm tall elephants and just struggling. But a baby curled up would be so adorable! All your tutorials are wonderful though and amazing to watch ❤
Wow! Those are going to be large elephants! I like making bigger sculptures because you can add details. They are time consuming but very rewarding. I watch the virtual safaris on the Painted Dog TV channel. I love the way they will just sit and watch the animals sometimes (versus talking and talking). It helps you notice more. They show elephants a lot and say sitting with them is very peaceful.
Thank you! I'm so glad you found it helpful. I'm working on another sleeping animal and hope to have it ready soon. The first one I made was not right. So I'm already on version 2!
Thank you so much! I will try to remember to film the details next time. I truly just was so immersed in making the fox's face that I forgot to turn on record! My bad.
Thank you so much for the fox, I’ve made it and I’m really happy with how it turned out. The pattern is so helpful and I scaled it down to make a small one as well. Learning so much as I go, next I’m going to try the humming bird😊
I'm so happy that you made the fox! Making a smaller version is a wonderful idea. I hope you enjoy the hummingbird. They are one of my favorite birds to see and make.
I have seen people use dog (or cat) hair before. But they said they mixed it with wool so it would felt. I would try that. Maybe you can find a wool that is close to the color of your dog? I haven't seen anyone say they made a piece with just dog hair. But I imagine it would also depend on the type of dog. Their hair varies so much. It's a worth a try!
Thank you for the sweet compliment! I started by buying an all-in-one kit on Amazon that made one animal (the one I picked up was the Dimensions Fox ). It was less expensive than buying things individually. It also gave me the opportunity to see if I liked needle felting. I'm not sure where you are located so an inexpensive kit where I am might be expensive for you with shipping. But I'd look for one that includes wool, at least two felting needles (in case one breaks), a mat or pad to melt on, and a video or printed instructions. The fox kit I bought also included a pattern that showed the sizes the pieces should be. I found that very helpful. My only problem with the Dimensions Fox kit specifically was that it didn't include enough orange wool to make the fox the size it showed unless you made the fox squishy instead of felting it a little firm. I ended up buying one of those needle felting starter kits (also on Amazon) that had small amounts of merino wool in about 20 colors. The starter kit only had wool, nothing else. Luckily, it had an orange wool that worked great with my little Dimensions Fox! It worked out and I had the extra wool from the starter kit to play with. There are lots of kits of Amazon but I also love Felted Sky's mini kits ( feltedsky.com/collections/mini-kits ). They have a variety of things to make, great quality needles, and give you plenty of wool. You could also look at Sarafina Fiber Art's Level One kits (they all have free UA-cam video tutorials you can watch before you buy anything www.sarafinafiberart.com/pages/tutorial-series ). I'm not sponsored by either of these companies but I have purchased many times from both. I hope this helps. f you have any questions, just let me know.
Thank you! I used wool that I had already purchased. The white and darkest tan are from Sarafina Fiber Art (Sarafina White Roving and House Carded Pelt in Tawny). The two other tan or sand colors are Sand Carded Maori Wool Batt from DHG and Wheat Felter’s Palette Batting from Felted Sky. But you really just need a white, a light beige, a medium tan and a camel color. I hope this helps.
Oh good! I just realized that I didn't mention that the link for the pattern was in the video description. I apologize. But I'm happy that you found it! I will make sure I mention that next time.
I know what you mean. For some parts of an animal, I find it works better for me not to use a felting mat. But most of the time, I do. And when I don't, I never ever take my eyes off of my work!

You’re welcome! 😊 I am the same. I've never been good at math so I double check everything I do.
