  • Our New Planter is being put to work today! Corn has been completed with our mounted planter, and now I’m exploring all the technology and full operations of our new pivot planter! This video is continued from “Testing Out Our New Case IH Planter!!!” I had an OOPS in this video! But lesson learned, do not try to eat while on the job. Lol.
    Loving each minute of this adventurous lifestyle! Doing what I love, farming with my dad! ❤️
    Featuring a No-Till / Strip Till MN operation

    Hi Kel. Looking great girl.
    You'll get the hang of the new planter. It's a good unit,
    You might have to put on extra row cleaners on with no tilling in corn stubble

    Looks like it’s time for a case 2150s planter. On a real note, you can plug those too. Planting at an angle and cameras make a world of difference.

    I agree with the camera idea however I’d also add one under the hitch looking back towards the front of the row units so you could see the buildup starting. Hope it goes better with the population

    Kels, it looks like you’re planting the same direction as the old corn rows. Try planting at a 5-10* angle as the old corn rows with out any row cleaners. That is how we do it in east central Kansas and we have zero issues. That being said, we don’t typically deal with the amount of residue that you have. But I can’t imagine that this wouldn’t solve your issue. Hopefully this helps.

      Apologies for my late replies this week! Thank you very much for your thoughtful comment! :) Great idea! We definitely want to use the row cleaners, with the no till lots of trash out there, but lots to tweak and decide on for next years plant season! :) Appreciate the great tips! Have a great day!

    you made a new road, it needs to be added to the maps 😂😂😂.
    This phenomenon Personally I happened to clog the windrower with the stalks while I was turning the straw windrows to dry it.

    Good video Kels, have you ever planted small grains in the past as crop rotation? Maybe planting on a slight angle might help with old crop residue pass through the planter?

    • @farmingwithkels5264
      @farmingwithkels5264  Місяць тому

      Hi! :) Thanks for watching! Appreciate the ideas! We are corn / bean crop rotation, but that’s a great idea! I’ve harvested beans at an angle before to cut them off better, but we’ll have to fine tune some details for next spring! :)

    It would be hard to see that happening under that big platform may could add a couple cameras behind the bulk fill to see the row units that’s a problem with notill if we get rain in the spring we will run a vt manchine ahead of the planter to cut up the trash

    • @farmingwithkels5264
      @farmingwithkels5264  Місяць тому

      Excellent idea! :) Yes we will be adding lots of cameras! lol we added one this year :) and that helped near the end of plant season! Definitely needs more to watch more than one spot, lots of little things like that to adjust, but loving it! :) & Oh, true! That makes sense! I bet that helps! Ground residue definitely changes with the weather/per field! Lots to adjust :) Thanks for watching!

    Did you have to run a vertical tillage tool over the stalks ?
