But this will be a first time reaction to BabyMetal by themselves. I really appreciate everyone in the comments on the last video giving me some background information. I had so many recommendations, I just pulled up the first video that came up.
Now as I explain in the intro I am pretty skeptical of this band, I understand they don't play any instruments and are more performers than musicians. Let's see what I think about it.

They are fantastic. Su-metal( main singer) wrote the lyrics for this one. Don’t “expect” anything from BABYMETAL they will always surprise you. You ain’t heard anything yet.

Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL plays with two amazing bands Eastern (Japanese) Kami Band or Western (American) Kami Band. The band in this video is Western one : Chris (g), CJ (g), Clint (b) and Anthony (d).
BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Great reaction! A lot of fans will recommend early Babymetal performances from when the girls were in their mid-teens, which you might find very jarring if you are not ready for some absolute WTF moments.
But throughout you can rely on their bringing top-tier musicianship, compelling stage presence, mental audience participation, and of course Queen Su's god tier vocals ❤🦊🤘

    Welcome to FOXHOLE
You are on the edge of the abyss and there is no escape
Babymetal It was born as an experiment that got out of control.
    That's why nothing is normal
So the only thing you can expect from Babymetal is the unexpected.
Despite what many think, they are heavier than they think.
Su-metal, She is for many one of the best technical vocalists in Japan, with incredible power, the ability to adapt to different styles, and the surprising ability to hold notes while it is danced
Remember you have to come with an open mind, you can't compare Babymetal to anything, because there is nothing like them.
Each song is a world apart.
Su-metal I describe his music "Don't think about it, just feel it."

Nice reaction. The first release off their newest album that came out last year. Funny how a group could have 4 albums and been around for over a decade and you somehow thought they may not be legitimate. Not to your liking is one thing but legitimate is another. There are a lot of bands out there that I feel flat out suck. But if they've been around for that long I have to give them their dues. They've earned it. In the case of Babymetal with their long list of accomplishments I find it amazing that folks are still just discovering them now. Like they're some kind of metal underground secret. They've been on magazine covers, won awards for best new artist and best stage show. and have been the talk of music festival. By that I mean they were all anyone wanted to talk about after seeing them. Including out selling everyone else's merch for the festival and they did that at the first big music festival they did outside of Japan. All this just to say Yes, Babymetal is the real deal. And they stand on their own as a band. They don't ask for your permission. Like the music festival they were told they would never play at. Until Dragon force snuck them into their show. And they performed a couple of song together. The next year Babymetal was invited to perform there by popular demand. They were also recently voted the 10 most important metal band ever. Why them simple. We had the British invasion years ago and now Babymetal has led a Japanese invasion worldwide. Now we have bands like Nymophila, band Maid, Mary's Blood and others all following the road of resistance that Babymetal paved for them. And no, they don't sound like Babymetal. Just more metal bands from Japan that happen to be really good. Also, Su Babymetals lead singer has been in the discussion of top female metal singers for over 5 years. Su can sing anything. Her talent level is outstanding and the skills she has learned over the years has made her and Babymetal a force to be reckoned with. To think all this started when she was just 12. What were you doing at 12? Su had already performed in front of 25 thousand people. She is a special singer. I hope you continue take the journey down the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music. The happiest place in metal. See You

For me, BabyMetal fits the same place as Heilung, Liliac, Gingertail, and other folk and rock bands; something that is a nice change when I want a softer sound than the metal I generally stick to. If BabyMetal was just the Kpop squalling I would not bother but their backing band can really bring the hard metal and makes all the difference to me. I do appreciate their ability to incorporate intricate dance moves to the music. Sadly, few of their songs have lyrics that are worth listening to since it is generally pap, not to mention the whole singing in Japanese thing.

The majority of BABYMETAL's music touches on the human experience, including love, tragedy, and hope. Light and darkness are common themes that crop up a lot. Divine Attack itself is about the battle you are forced into, and fighting on despite the obstacles and the enemies you need to face.

Babymetal is definitely very unusual but it's never weird just for the sake of being weird. There is always a lot of talent and thought that goes into it. Its best to just roll with it. They have a way of making things you thought you dislike, likeable.

@@metalzonereactions I definitely recommend the Begins Clear Night concert (also called PIA Arena because of its venue) version of Road of Resistance over the 'Live in Japan' one people suggest. It's newer so it has their new member, and it's superior instrumentally, and in video and audio production quality. It's basically the superior version in every way, but people like the nostalgia of the old one which doesn't really effect a person new to BABYMETAL.

👍 👍 lead vocalist Suzuka got writing credit on this song.
BabyMetal began 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed little interest and the girls had financing mainly from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these HQ Pro Shot videos of LIVE performances for a start.

Yui Mizuno left BabyMetal in 2018 due to health reasons and at their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019 after Yui's departure) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.

When is a singer not a musician? I was taught that the human voice is a musical instrument. And they have to read music, yes? Just because they aren't on stage wind-milling a guitar doesn't make them any less a musician. And in my opinion, BABYMETAL is one step beyond mere musicians; they are pure entertainment. It seems to me that you are making far too many assumptions about a group you've never seen or heard of except in a collab. With BABYMETAL, there is only one thing you can expect and that is the unexpected.
Perhaps after a few more BABYMETAL videos, you'll have a better understanding for BABYMETAL. What you just watched is BABYMETAL how they are now; I suggest you turn the way-back machine to 2012 when they released their first two official music videos "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay") and see how they were. You’ll notice those are the first two on this list of recommended songs:
Doki Doki Morning (official music video)
    Iine! (official MV)
Gimme Chocolate!! (official MV or Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
    Megitsune (official MV)
BABYMETAL Death (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version) [for those who are religiously sensitive, see the Budokan Black Night 2014 version]
Onedari Daisakusen (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Song 4 No Uta (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Uki Uki * Midnight (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Catch Me If You Can (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Live at Sonisphere 2014 version)
    Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Road of Resistance (Legend 2015 New Year Fox Festival version)
    Karate (official MV)
Meta Taro (Five Fox Festival version)
    GJ! (Fox Festival 2017 version)
Sis Anger (Fox Festival 2017 version)
    Shanti Shanti Shanti (official MV)
    Pa Pa Ya!! (official MV)
    BxMxC (official MV)
    Metalizm (official MV)
    Metali!! (official MV)
I would include the links but, for some reason, UA-cam sometimes thinks I'm posting spam and will delete my comment. For the links, see the UA-cam playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty”; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list.

Good reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL. Well, skeptical to intrigued is already a progression, hehe...
"Divine Attack" was the first single of their latest album, The Other ONE. And it's a great song, full of cool elements like the drum n' bass sections, s smooth drive some heavy riffing, an orchestral touch and Su-metal's vocals, of course. Not to mention that she wrote the lyrics on this one for the first time.
At this point you just need to know a few things but basically: they are different from anything you listened to and saw before in any aspect; they are way better live (yes they always perform with a live band called Kami Band and, fortunately, this was an actual live video); they are very diverse musically as they don't hesitate on mixing any music genre with metal (any sub-genre). So, forget your prejudices and always expect the unexpected. 😁
I'd like to suggest you "MAYA" (live) it's also on their official channel.
    Enjoy your BABYMETAL journey!

Looks like you have already fallen into the algorithm and have gotten the attention of many familiar names I see in the comments. Me included. So I won’t bog you down with the usual info. You probably know by now that Babymetal has a very devoted fanbase and it is just one of those few musical phenomenons in history where it has become more of a movement composed of a very intimate community who share in the same religious experience with this rock idol group (#notacult). There is a lot of camaraderie among the fans. Whether you like Babymetal or not is never an issue. We just love the sight of seeing others join our ranks. It is disrespect which will earn the ire of the fans (which you haven’t done), and Babymetal has earned such a zealous fan base. So long as your honest and humble, no one should take issue. Most of us don’t even known why we are here if I’m being honest. It just is what it is lol. Babymetal’s fan base is composed of a lot of people from various backgrounds, cultures, music tastes, etc. I come from a more metalcore/deathcore/symphonic metal type of background and I got sucked down into the “foxhole” this year. I am in love with this group and I could listen to Sumetal’s angelic voice over deep gutturals any day. It just has a different vibe to it and feels more “natural” ironically enough. It grows on you, trust me.
I’m sure others have told you this song and performance is from their more recent album which has a very serious tone to it. Usually Babymetal tends to be more on the “what the fuck!?” end of the spectrum. But this is not a bad place to start sense part of the intent behind this album was to erase the stigma of Babymetal being a “gimmick” in the eyes of many in the metalhead community. They started this when they were children and have a reputation for not being taken seriously because of their earlier material. But never the less, they haven’t walked away from
being fun. I recommend you check out their latest single, Metali, which features Tom Morello from RATM. It will give you a better idea of the current iteration of Babymetal and their direction entering a new era. Once you see that and are still interested, I recommend you then go back to the beginning and watch some of their earlier materials such as Megitsune to get an idea of how far they have come.

Great first reaction - and yes they are legit (but they can do cheesy when they want as well).
BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they brought a fusion of great metal instrumentals coupled with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics to create their very own sub-genre ... and they have continued to develop and evolve from those beginnings.
They don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world, they are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off often bland music).
BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it is designed to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement.
BABYMETAL are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and Momometal (in charge of backing vocals, harmonies and mainly hyping and involving the crowd with their choreo).
The original third member Yuimetal last performed in October 2017 and was absent for 12 months for health reasons until she announced she was still not fully recovered and would be leaving the band.
Su and Moa continued as a duo for 4 or 5 years supported from 2019 by 3 dancers who would take turns dancing in the third spot until 1st April 2023 when one of those dancers, Momoko, was finally revealed as the new official third member.
This video for 'Divine Attack' was filmed the next night on 2nd April, Momometal's first concert as an official member.
They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. They were phased in from October 2012 playing a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows and they becamse the full time support for all live shows from March 2014.
Since then there have been many Kami Band members, but the same hard core of about 6 musicians (Mikio Fujioka (RIP5th Jan 2018), Takayoshi Ohmura, Leda Cygnus and ISAO on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums) have played the vast majority of concerts.
In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone on drums) were introduced and they have been supporting BABYMETAL on their more extended foreign tours since then.
They have nearly 70 songs now, every one of them is different from the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal, often when you least expect it. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song no problem - try another, the chances are you'll love it. I'm sure you will get a lot of great suggestions.

Nice you're back with this suggestion after your Kingslayer reaction, in general all songs from latest album are way different than previous album and we're getting a more serious and mature sound, a BM side we've never seen before, so don't worry, you'll find the most unique Japanese group and there's no one like them around.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
    About this song:
This was the 1st single out of five released in October 2022, part of the new album "The Other One" released later in March 2023 and is totally a banger. SuMetal got the lyrics credits on this and all of us are proud and happy she reached one of her dreams. She totally rocks!❤️
    Here's some official info:
    Divine Attack - Shingeki (CAVALRY)
    _The time has come._
_Trascending many barriers and creating many legends, where will BABYMETAL head next? The power and dynamism of the song depicts a cavalry preparing for their future battle._
"Divine Attack - Shingeki" got some drum&bass combined with the heavy riffs of metal sound.
They're giving us a new lore and a metalverse with 10 different worlds and songs that are connected in this concept album.
We can say that this song carry the spirit and message of songs like Road Of Resistance but this is more like a call to arms and fight for your future.
This footage was taken from BabyMetal Begins - The Other One Clear Night, PIA Arena MM, Yokohama in April 2nd, the Black Night took place in April 1st and you can see that clip in MAYA official live MV. This was the first night with MomoMetal as the new official member, the night prior to this they're wearing the old battle dress from Metal Galaxy era while in this you can see them with the new iridiscent costume. MomoMetal (Momoko Okazaki) was one of the three avengers (or backup dancers part of the lore) since 2019. We all proud of MomoMetal being finally part of this group.
The backing band you saw are called the Kami Band, they were send by the Fox God to help the girls with the metal sound, they only play live and aren't official members, during early era they used to have a Japanese set of musicians but prior to this when they started to perform live they got a fake band called "baby-bones" (you'll see them in the Gimme Chocolate MV and many more live performance before 2013 mainly), later in 2019 they incorporate a new set of western musicians when doing live tour and they were part of this concert and clip you just saw as well the whole World Tour 2023, we called them Western Kami Band.
There is an official visualizer with the album studio sound released the same day in October and you can see only the two of them back then, these new shows on DVD/BD they're promoting are part of this historical event when MomoMetal was crowned as the third official member.
    Next suggestion:
    - Headbanger!! live at Legend 1997 (2013), you can find this clip at Gans Tomas under the title "Hedo Bangya".
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🔥

Babymetal can break your brain! LoL!!
So to make it easier for you, DO NOT think of them as a traditional Metal Band, but rather, think of Babymetal as a Performance Art Act - some cool choreography, Fantastic Stage Productions, AWSOME Metal played by some of Japan's Top session musicians (and the Western Kami's also), Lore and History that tell a story that can, if you let it, take you deep down a Fox Hole to find a Metal Galaxy that you never new existed!!
Yep, they can do all that!! Once your understand, there is no going back! Its Kawaii Metal Baby!
Japanese Rock and Metal has been surging for the last decade and you need to catch up!!
    Good Luck!
    Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

That last bit about letting the lore and history do it’s thing I think was probably one of the best ways of describing the magic of Babymetal’s lore. For many who try to over analyse it, it won’t work. But just letting the real story play out and let the mythology add a bit of flare, it somehow just works. Can’t explain it.

Hi Allan, great 1st official Babymetal reaction, and I'm glad you "skeptically" enjoyed it 😂. My first experience was "Gimme Chocolate" which is a very divisive song, and I was skeptical as well initially, so I get exactly where you are coming from. On paper, I absolutely should not like Babymetal, especially since I don't even like pop music, but for some damn reason, I absolutely fell in love with their music and performances, and now I am forever a Babymetal fan.
    Here's what I mean:
1). They ARE 100% manufactured, by a metalhead producer, Key Kobayashi, working at a J-Pop agency to revitalize a dying metal scene in Japan back in 2010.
2). They ARE always fusing J-pop music and idol culture with heavy metal music. They ARE NOT a typical metal band. They DO NOT write their own music (except this particular song, and 1 other). And they DO NOT play instruments, just sing and dance to a live backing band.
3). They WILL have super cheesy, and needlessly over-the-top poppy songs performed to metal. On the other end of the spectrum, they also have very well-composed, classic metal songs that are heavy AF, and just straight epic, including one that is so prog-metal, that Mike Portnoy gave it his personal thumbs up.
4). They are ALWAYS a live performance act first and their live is always better. Their session band is not on their studio recordings.
If you choose to check out more Babymetal, I suggest that you do not look at them as your typical metal band. They won't check many boxes in that realm. Otherwise, here are a few suggestions to help you get a feel for who they are as a group:
*1). Road of Resistance:* The Official Live from Babymetal's channel is the best (2015 performance). This is the most epic power metal anthem, with guitars co-written by Herman Li and Sam Tottman of Dragonforce. 17-year-old lead Su-metal and her 15-year-old Lieutenants command 20K sold-out crowd to a wall of death and giant circle pits.
*2). Gimme Chocolate:* Official Live is "best" (Legend 1997 concert in Dec 2013, Su-metal's 16th birthday show). It is the live debut of the song and the video that went viral and got Babymetal international acclaim. It is also performed with live vocals to tracked music and a fake band as they couldn't afford a full live band back then as Babymetal just got big. This song is very divisive, but it is at its core, what Babymetal is all about.
*3). Catch Me If You Can:* Budokan 2014 version is best. Cutsie adorableness x 10, Brutality x 10, and hide and seek. Best showcase of early Babymetal, plus a sick a** band intro. Starting in 2014, the Kami Band backs all Babymetal shows live 100%.
*4). Metali ft. Tom Morello:* Official MV, newest single, Aug 2023. In my opinion, this best showcases what the grown-up Babymetal in their mid-20s is all about.
*5). Brand New Day ft. Tim Hansen & Scott LePage:* Budokan 2021 version is excellent, and because you mentioned Polyphia. Tim and Scott contributed the guitar solos.
*6). BABYMETAL DEATH:* Legend 1997 show is best. 0% cute, 100% brutal. Babymetal gets edgy with this epic show closer.
*7). iine!:* Official music video is best. Their 2nd song ever. "Baby" Babymetal's message to the world that they will not be put in a box and be constrained by traditional musical expectations. Many "WTF" moments, super cheesy, but I love it lol.
Look forward to more Babymetal! 🤘🦊

This is a rough translation of the lyrics:
    The long night is coming
    The disturbing wind blows
    Warriors, gather here
With the blades of your hearts
    Let us make a vow
Let us cry a war cry
To start our journey from here
    No way to retreat anymore
    And the silence was broken
    Now it’s time to fight
    Raise your hands!
    The time has come
    Stand up
Go forward to the future you dreamed
    Time to go your way
Make your path with your own hands
    However your dream is fragile
However your fate comes against you
If you believe it’s worth fighting for
    Devote your hearts for it!
    The time has come
    Stand up
If you have the future you want to see
    Time to go your way
Break through the wall with your hands

Guess who else didn't play an instrument in their bands? Ozzy Osbourne yet nobody gives him crap about it. He sang and bit the head of bats. These girls sing, dance and get crucified on stage. Thanks alot for your honest reaction. You have begun your journey down the 'foxhole'.
One more thing to add to the wealth of information you've already received. Babymetal began as a subgroup of the jpop group Sakura Gakuin where Suzuka Nakamoto was chosen specifically to lead the Heavy Music Club (Babymetal) at 12 years old in 2010 because of her distinct powerful voice that can pierce through the heavy musical instruments of metal. Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi were both 11 at the time and were chosen because of their compatible voices with Suzuka and twin-like factor. They have been performing nonstop for the past 13 years (with the exception of during the pandemic). So the girls are consummate professionals since they were kids and their performances really show their experience.
If you want to delve more into their history, watch Cryptic Misery's Guide to Babymetal and you'll get the history up to a few years ago. And if you have any questions at all, the fan base (called The One), will be more than welcome to answer them. My recommendation is to sprinkle a few songs from their earlier days, Megitsune, Headbanger, Karate, and Road of Resistance LIve in Japan. Welcome!

    Welcome to the Foxhole! 🤘🦊🤘
Most of the truly important information has been or will be given in other comments, so I like to give the fun titles and nicknames given by The ONE (Babymetal’s Fan-base) as well as other (un)important information.
BABYMETAL started as an experimental sub-unit of the larger JPop/JRock group Sakura Gakuin.
Suzuka Nakamoto\Su-Metal (Vocals and Dance): Angel of Song, Queen Su, Queen of Kawaii, Metal Queen, and Metal Goddess.
Before Sakura Gakuin, she performed in a stage production of "The Adventurers" and was a member of the JPop trio, Karen Girls.
Fun Fact: Bullfrogs are her Kryptonite
Yui Mizuno\Yuimetal (Scream and Dance) Former member since 2018: Angel of Dance, Princess Yui, Tomato Princess, Tomato-Kun, Kawaii Princess and Devourer of Souls (or at least she stares into your soul). Yui had a minor role as a child actor in a Japanese TV Drama before joining Sakura Gakuin. She has cute, chubby cheeks.
Fun Fact: Yui is tickled by Bullfrogs.
** WARNING ** Do NOT, ever, under any circumstances call her “small”, "smol", “short” or “tiny” (same rule applies to Moametal).
Moa Kikuchi\Moametal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Love\Smile, Queen of Hearts, Princess Moa, Kawaii Princess, Super Moa-chan, Maiden of Mischief, and Headmistress of Hedabon. She has huge dimples and a smile that melts the hardest of hearts.
Fun Fact: Loves to troll Su-metal on-stage with little pranks as well as torment Su-metal with Bullfrogs.
Momoko Okazaki\Momometal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Joy, Kawaii Princess, Princess Peach, Vampire Slayer, Kabuki Queen. Also a Sakura Gakuin graduate. Was a contestant on the Korean reality survival program "Girls Planet 999" (which thankfully for The ONE, she was eliminated from early on) and performed in a stage musical production of "Black Butler". Momoko was the only “Avenger” (see below) to perform in the “10 BABYMETAL Budokan” shows in 2021 and was officially named Momometal and made a permanent member in April 2023. She deserves the spot!
Fun Fact: Momoko's father is a popular comedian in Japan known for making dead-pan jokes. Momoko worked very hard to make her way without using his name as a crutch.
BLACK BABYMETAL: Yuimetal and Moametal performing as a duet while Su-metal takes a breather. Also known as “MoiMoi”. There are 4 BBM songs (GJ!, Onedari Daisakusen, 4 No Uta\Song 4, and Sis. Anger) some of which Moametal performed solo a few times after Yui's departure. Now that Momometal is a member, we are hoping for more BBM songs with MoMoa! But only the Fox God knows.
AVENGERS: 3 Dancers who took turns performing the choreography in Yuimetal’s spot after her departure. They were not official members did not have microphones and were not even named. It was the fans who quickly figured out who they were and you will see them in live performances between 2018 and 2021.
    They were:
    Momoko Okazaki (see above).
Riho Sayashi: Suzuka’s former rival at Actors School Hiroshima, often competing for the same roles. Former “Ultimate Ace” of the JPop Idol group Morning Musume. Now a solo artist.
Kano Fujihara: Former Member of Sakura Gakuin, the school-aged Idol group that BABYMETAL was born out of. Like Suzuka and Moa before her, Kano was Student Council President her last year in Sakura Gakuin and like Yui, was considered arguably the best dancer in SG during her time there. She is now a member of the Idol group @onefive, which is comprised of 4 Sakura Gakuin graduates (Kano, Momo, Soyo and Gumi). Kano only performed with BABYMETAL in Japan as she could not travel, likely due to her commitments to Sakura Gakuin and the then developing @onefive.
    We are #notacult.

Great reaction, Babymetal is very talented and they have some very metal songs...and then some that are not. They like to blend musical themes and they do it very well. They are also a very theatrical production. After looking through some of your channel reactions, I would suggest Band-Maid might be more to your musical pleasures. They are an all woman maid theme band..but they don't need the theme...they are extremely talented and are an actual playing band...for a heavy flavor I would suggest "Moratorium" live...they really sound great live.

And to help you in understanding, Su started singing when she was only 8 years old. Yes they were build by a Manager who was a metal fan, but he wanted a more deversified audience and he achieved tjis goal, mot as fast and directly as he and the girls hoped. While 10 year old kids don't go to a heavy metal concert by themselves they go together with their parents. And they have normally more tham 40% female fans. While Koba exchanged the Devil sign to a Fox God he had no idea that Babymetal converted it to a sign of female empowerment. And the coeograved dancing isn't really there main purpose. Their main function is audience reaction and coordination. Which lines shall the audience sing? And do the people react as you want them?

Nice first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘 Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group (a metal subgenre that they created) that formed in 2010 when the 3 girls were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they are currently on another world tour that included many dates here in the USA, and released a new amazing album several months ago! I recommend their song Head banger from 1997 Apocalypse Live. I was once too skeptical about this band ever since hearing their song Gimme Chocolate, which was a bit... surprising, I guess. Wasn't really my style I thought. I then heard them again on BMTH's 2020 EP and really liked Su-METAL's voice, so might as well check out some more. And I did. And I don't regret it at all. It's become one of my favourite bands, but that's because I generally listen to high pitched female singing (or a good male voice like BMTH or Celldweller) mixed with metal.
May or may not be your style, but their live performances (and crowd control) are really something else and worth to be checked out, hence why I recommended the Live version of "Head banger". I once read a comment saying that Su-METAL's unique ability as a singer is being able to visually (metaphorical, naturally) cut through all the background instrumental with her powerful high range voice. I liked this observation, I thought it is pretty accurate.

Not really musicians? Because they don't play instruments (Moa plays guitar but anyway) would you tell Frank Sinatra or Jimmy Page they aren't a musician because they don't play an instrument?
    Good luck with that😉

Good reaction. Welcome to the crazy universe of BabyMetal.
BabyMetal is an atypical heavy metal group, because they are idols. In Japan, idols are often paired with pop music (Jpop), and Babymetal was actually a subgroup of a larger idol group called Sakura Gakuin.
Sakura was made up of girls between 10 and 15 years old dedicated to Jpop. When SuMetal (the singer) started she was 12 years old and MoaMetal/YuiMetal (the backup singers) were only 10 years old. Sakura represented the Japanese high school and the girls were distributed in clubs (traditional Japanese extracurricular activities such as cooking, swimming, basketball, sewing, etc.).
One of the producers, a lover of heavy metal, saw that Su's singing could perfectly be used in metal and asked permission from the Mother House (Amuse) to create the heavy music club, proposing an experiment in fusion between metal and the pop. Nobody, as they themselves have confessed, had much hope for its outcome, but they gave it the green light and thus BabyMetal, Sakura Gakuin's heavy music club, was born.
The first songs were intended for girls between 10 and 15 years old, who were Sakura's target audience. However, their quality and the fusion between pop and metal attracted attention beyond this audience and they began to frequent their metal concerts... a shocking audience of children and metalheads.
And it worked, it worked so well that they began to support groups like Metallica, Red Hot, BMTH or Lady Gaga, I seem to remember, on their tours in Japan. And the Red Hot singer commented that he was impressed to realize that part of the public came to see them, not them.
And so the base of BabyMetal fans grew. Sakura was a group in which, upon turning 15, the members had to leave (to pursue their careers elsewhere) and the producer (KobaMetal) requested permission again to create BabyMetal as an independent group. Success was already beginning to become a reality in Asia, so they authorized it, although Moa and Yui (they were still 13 years old) would also continue to be part of other Sakura clubs (I don't know when the poor girls studied, but they did).
In 2014 a milestone would arrive in the group's history. They were already an established metal group in Asia that sold out concerts, but they had not yet made the leap to the West. In that year his song "Gimme Chocolate" rose to fame on UA-cam (currently 182M views) and attracted the attention of the producers of the Sonisphere festival. KobaMetal had doubts about taking the step, since their musical proposal (Kawaii Metal or Cute Metal, a genre of which they are considered creators) might not be accepted in the West and the metalheads who went to the Sonisphere had a reputation for saying goodbye to very bad manners to the artists they didn't like (even with bottles full of urine), but they were offered to go to one of the secondary stages (about 5000 spectators) and they ended up accepting.
But the success of BabyMetal on UA-cam and the fact that all the concerts they were going to give in Europe were sold out in a few days, convinced the producers to take them to the main stage, where they would share with groups like Metallica, for example.
How many girls (they were between 16 and 14 years old at that time) were "terrified" before going out, and they didn't know what scared them more: that they wouldn't understand their music and they would have to run away or that when they went out on stage it would be empty. .
But the story was very different, not only was it not empty, but more than 50,000 metalheads, an estimated 95% of whom had never heard of them, finished their fifth and last song chanting "another one, another one."
And that's how they achieved popularity in the West as well.
They currently have 4 albums on the market:
-Babymetal (2013): Their first album and the most childish of all, since they were between 15-13 years old when it came out and had energetic, positive music that left a smile on their faces.
-Metal Resistence (2016): an album that, without losing the essence of the first, shows more mature music, going from childhood to adolescence. Songs like Karate were a large part of his presentation in the West.
-Metal Galaxy (2018): a turning point in its style. Without abandoning their energy, they turned their attention to new forms of metal fusion (hip-hop, dance music, Hindu music or European folklore, among others), projecting a much more mature music in keeping with their age, which was already around 21 years old. of Su and the 18 of Moa (unfortunately Yui left the group due to health problems).
And now in 2023 they have just released their new album "The Other One", which is, again, totally different from what they have done until now (one of the hallmarks of BabyMetal is that their songs are usually very different some from others (although they are all positive adrenaline releases). Divine Attack is from this album.
Currently BabyMetal is considered the most important Heavy Metal group in Japan (I'm not saying the best, that's for everyone to decide) and the most influential in history in the West (it has reached levels that no other Japanese heavy group has reached before). ).
The journey through the Babymetal galaxy may be long, but it is certainly entertaining and with a few songs it drags you with a smile into the fox hole.
