Have you ever tried a glass pen before? They're not just pretty to look at; they write pretty nicely too! Check out our Glass Pen Art video to see us draw with one: ua-cam.com/video/Gw6wW4BW4fw/v-deo.html
Yeah I actually have a set of glass pens and ink wells.
I actually have a few glass pens, and love them! I do have a question, though. I got my hubs one of his own, and, SOMEHOW, he managed to break just the tip off - it's at a slight angle and a bit sharp, instead of smooth and round. You wouldn't realize it to look at it, but writing with it is a nightmare.
Is there anything I can do to try to salvage it, or is it something I have to retire to become a pretty decoration? Honestly, short of breaking it into pieces (it's quite gorgeous!), I'm willing to try anything to fix it. If it doesn't work, no harm, it'll just go back into my display case. But... I hate to see it not being able to be used without at LEAST trying to restore it! Thank you!
Oh my! Never used an glass pen so when I saw this in my feed I was much fascinated by how beautiful it's crafted. The ink flowing from it, is just luxurious looking. I am very curious about the glass pen & ink that I can just use water to clean it off. Thank you 😊
I have glass pens and I love them...
I have one glass pen I found a few years ago and never used….then I saw a video (or maybe read?) about using one to swatch fountain pen inks and eureka! Started using it. It feels SO FANCY
I didn't know you could use paper bags to get rid of the sharp edges! That's a super helpful tip 👍👍
Don't go too overboard though! You could ruin the tip if you do it too much.
@@JetPens .
I spent the whole September journaling with my glass pens and the end result was that the inks that flowed better in my experience were Rohrer & Klingner's iron gall inks (Salix is a dark blue and features in the video, Scabiosa is a purplish color. If you're afraid to put iron gall inks in your fountain pen, glass pens are perfect to try these inks with peace of mind). It was fun and I should do it again!
Perfect timing, I was just thinking about getting a glass pen when this video appeared in my feed! I mostly wanted to get one for when I want to play with and test my fountain pen inks without actually having to clean out or ink up a pen.
What an awesome idea 💡. Thank you for this 🙂
Me too..interesting..I was just looking at one online lol
Wow what 's a video i love it no words to say
Awesome ,beautiful, amazing
, lovely , wow , i love it so so (100) much wow
Lmao
your fbi agent is just looking out for you
I love my glass pen for ink swatching! Nothing beats the ease of cleaning it by just dipping it in water. I also love using mine with metallic watercolors
Thank you for the tip about watercolours!
Don’t know if I can commit to the cleaning, different inks, and special paper needed to use glass pens but they are so beautifully crafted!
I'll say this, glass pens are far more low maintenance than either dip pens, fountain pens or brush. It doesn't really NEED special paper. It just looks best with the nicer paper, but that is true of any ink medium. I'll often grade papers with a glass dip pen on the regular old ruled paper the kids use. Maintenance is literally just dipping it in water and wiping on a paper towel. That is it. As far as inks go, I don't look at it as I have to use a bunch of different inks. More like I GET to use a bunch of different inks! You can use any old fountain pen ink and one bottle will last you ages. If I could only use one bottle of low cost ink, I'd recommend Noodler's Apache Sunset which has beautiful shading that shows up on all kinds of paper. Happy writing!
@@yaroslavsky Thanks for the insight! Gonna stick w/my gel pens for now. Glass pens are so bougie!!
@@yaroslavsky Thank you so much for sharing, I always get uncertain when they start listing off specific paper to use, I've been considering glass pens for a while, your comment was really helpful. 😊
@@skymochi7777 Soo... you completely missed or purposely disregarded the very specific mentions, both in the video and the above response, that glass pens do NOT need special cleaning, NOR special inks, NOR special paper and are, therefore, much more easier and quicker in many ways than fountain pens? Somebody took the time to respond to you and you toss that with insulting them that the use of glass pens is 'bougie', which is a pretty nauseating term in my opinion, and it's not even applicable here: there are glass pens for as little as EUR 15, cheaper than most fountain pens and certainly cheaper than gel pens. Those you just toss away (think of the all the plastic wasted!) when finished, but a glass pen and a bottle of ink last ages. Furthermore - if you're sitting there in your trailer, in your track suit, writing with your glitter gel pens whilst chewing gum with your mouth open, NOT being interested in glass pens, why even watch and comment?
@@chantalvanderende515 take a pill & relax. There was no disrespect intended in my response in fact admiring the commitment of glass fountain pen users. But instead u had to make derogatory, personal insults knowing nothing abt me. Hate comments violate UA-cam policy. Find more constructive ways of handling ur anger.
I'd be really interested in a video about the history of the glass pens verses regular dip pens. Thanks for the great content!!
To add that glass pen was developed in 18th century in Italian city Murano (according to what infomation I could find)
They had an advantage over regular dip pens of that time (and it was before fountain pen or ballpoint pen invention) in bigger 'ink reserve' thanks to multiple twisted grooves but also in a steady, same-width line.
I bought a glass pen set for like 10$ from a store somewhere and didn't know how to use it because it felt scratchy. this advice is so useful!
Just received a glass pen as a gift- you're my go to for information on all things pens so this was my first stop. I'm excited to try it out. Thanks for being informative but not overwhelming me with info and techniques. I'm sure I'll be heading your way for ink and paper soon!
Man I'm impressed, I can literally showcase my calligraphy beautifully with this. I might purchase one ✨
I recently bought a J-Herbin glass pen, and I was still thinking about how to take care of the glass pen's beginner glass pen, but thanks to JetPen, I learned a lot. Thank you^^
I find them gorgeous and it's really cool how they least longer than other dip pens when it comes to tip and ink but that's a product I really have no intention of ever owning! I'm way too scared of breaking them! Fountain pens are the ones for me
Oh you really need to buy one and try it out. There are many cheaper glass pens out there- less than 10.00 / 5:21 5:21 20.00. I got my husband to buy me a Murino glass pen for our anniversary and it was gorgeous and it wrote beautifully. Well I didn’t have it for a month yet and it rolled off of the table and broke the nib( totally my fault because it wasn’t on its holder) My heart broke! I was so upset and I even reached out to Murino to see if they could fix it. They were very nice and understanding, but told me it would cost more to send it to them than the pen cost( pen cost 100.00 with a bottle of ink) Long story short I looked online and was surprised at how many glass pens there are and how inexpensive most were so of course I bought one. I think I paid less than 10.00 for it and honestly it wrote just as nice as the expensive one, I have been hooked ever since and I have about 30 glass pens and one made of crystal. You should definitely take the plunge and buy one Amazon has them also. Well I just noticed this was 2yrs. ago😅😂 I’m commenting anyway lol. I hope you have taken the plunge😊
Nice overview of the care and feeding of glass pens. And how lovely to see some Shakespeare written out in a beautiful hand!
I have used the 2nd smoothest panel of those 3 step nail buffers, they work beautifully as well!
What a good idea! just using the smoothest buffing section should yield great results, ok im sold on a glass pen. Adding it to my small fountain pen collection
I must share with you that my Great-Grandmother held up her beautiful long hair (back in the mid-1800s), with these beautiful glass pens! I have them now, and had no idea they ate actually writing pens! They are beautiful, and several colors as well. She was from Germany. I am Thrilled to learn this. Now I only need to buy your ink and stationary. 😊
I wonder what's the most niche, stationary addicted content y'all could make 🤔 this is definitely up there, I love it!!
I have seen a glass pen for the first time just a few months ago and I fell in love with it immediately. I don't do calligraphy but just the looks of the glass pens is so beautiful. 😍
I have a glass pen 😆 and I prefer using it than a fountain pen. I bought one because it looked pretty but didn't think I'd love it than a fountain pen, even tho I can only use it at home and never bring outside
What perfect timing! I was planning on going to a stationary shop that has glass dip pens today! I've been thinking of getting one and this only tempts me more.
Do i have a glass pen? No.
Will i ever have one? Probably not.
Did i still watch the entire video? Yes.
I used to have a fountain pen with red ink, but felt like a bit of a waste to have a good pen just to write a couple of words in the titles, so I repurposed back to blue ink. This glass pen is the perfect answer 😍!!!
My left-handed ass can only watch in awe as you write beautifully without smearing the heck out of your ink and getting it all over your hands. Lovely!
Watching this and thinking "maybe if I get rich I can buy this" and then your comment reminded me of my left-handedness 🤡
Yeah I wish I could write with a glass pen but I'm left handed so it would just smudge all over 😭
Your shop is amazing and i love the things you are selling i will recommend this to my friends !💕this is so underrated
Love seeing glass pens! Would want to try it in the future soon 😄
I’ve never heard glass pens before! These look so cool!
I have avoided using my glass pens because of the sharp tip. I hated the feeling that I had gotten from it. I'll definitely be trying this
Thank you so much! This was so useful your channel is the best for artist like me!
I love mine!!!! I bought it from you guys website!!!
I prefer the glass nib pens - with caps to protect the nib when not in use.
I first time saw glass pens and they are
Absolutely gorgeous 😍
Just bought my first glass dip pens ... thank you for this information!!! I'm excited to start with this.
My personal favorite ink for practicing was food coloring in water, it looks like watercolor :)
I had my my glass pen lying around for quite a while, I should definitely get back to using it!
Those metal nib pens look so elegant! I want them all!!
Very useful tips! Thank you
I have been wondering all of these tysm jet pens you are da best
Thanks for sharing the paper bag method. I bought a new glass pen because my first had a scratchy spot. I’ll try it!
Ack no bloopers or extra takes! How accustomed to them we have become. I love this vide and I have downloaded it for when I need to review it if and when I get one of these beautiful pens.
My daughter would love one of these. I will get her one for Christmas. Thanks for the info featured in the video
Since I know absolutely nothing ab glass pens that was really helpful and done interestingly. Think I might get one
Wow ❤❤ this was really helpful
I have many glass pens and I absolutely love them
I got to ink the pen part and got really confused. I was like omg idk what to dooooooooo. Thankfully very generous and informative people made this video and I found my way. I didn't know i had to pick the pen up and THEN dip it on the ink. I thought it was the other way around. Simple mistake anyone could make. Kindest regards.
I just bought myself a glass pen, and wanted to make sure I was using it to its full potential! thank you!
OMG!!! I just bought a glass pen and was hoping jetpens would upload a video on it!!!!
Thank you so much for this video
Awesome and to the point
I have two and I sketch with them. I like both soft and scratchy nibs
3:03 this looks absolutely amazing
Beautiful glass pen
Thanks for teach us is very helpfull.i
Maybe I can get one soon, but this is really helpful for beginners.
Love you guys!
Love using my Glass pens!
Ooohhh testing different inks with a glass pen, that makes sense!
Totally cool, glass pens & ink ! 🦋🍀
I used the bottom of the ink bottle (also glass) to get rid off a particularly sharp edge; I prefer a smooth feeling, I'm prone to rip paper otherwise; and also I naturally twist my pen writing, so an irregular tip was not helpful.
Worked a lot faster than smoothing on paper [though not as rapid as I feared sand paper would be, though I didn't actually try that one myself]; that being said, faster also means faster to overdo it!
I'm clumsy af and i like to spin my pens so i will definitely break this thing in less than a day
I have heard of glass fountain pens a few months ago, I'm still trying to figure out whether or not to buy one and if it's worth it seeing how it's so fragile. Thank you for the video
I loved my glass pen, they are really nice to use, the tip slide easily and smoothly but alas, I only use it for less than 6 month before I accidently dropped it and breaks. Now I'm back using my old dip fountain pen. I might get one again in the future but I need to find one that have rectangle body so it wont roll easily on my rather crowded desk.
This video appeared at the right time! I was thinking of getting a cool notebook set with a glass pen and I was like, I don't know how to use a glass pen! The ink was so cute and it was a purple glass pen with a lock notebook. I decided not to get it then a came across your channel! Thank you so much! New subscriber!
She has such neat handwriting😱
I used my watercolor paint and it worked well
I don't think I'll ever get a glass pen but my goodness they are beautiful
Awesome ❤
Nice >>> Thank you
I first saw glass pens from the UA-camr Kaiteki ART. She makes some amazing artwork using multiple mediums, but the fountain pens are great for drawing fine strands of hair. My biggest concern would be my klutzy self knocking over a bottle of ink 😅
ive heard of these before but i didnt want to get one of the sketchy brands from amazon because im so afraid the glass tip is going to break in my hands. hopefully ill be allowed to buy one of these though!
I actually owned a glass pen before I owned a fountain pen! Was surprised by how long it could right before needing refill.
Dropped my first one and broke the nib so had to buy another. Both have had one rough scratchy side. I'll have to try that rough paper trick on it.
Are they friendly for left handed people? Classic metal tip pens were a pain to use for lefties for they always broke. I always wanted to love the ink technique but they were designed to be used certain way
Aesthetic ❤️
So getting myself one
i love you stuff it so nice
woah so cool!! (also who is the amazing narrator?)
They work great with watercolors also, but one with no twist in the tip is best. Just brush it on tip. The straight tip works for applying masking fluid also. Experiment & have fun!
Very cool!
You definitely gain more subscriber
I just looked and they are a lot cheaper than I thought they would be. Nice
My 7 year old son is trying a glass pen for the first time today! This video was perfect to get us started- thanks!
What do recommend doing with the rubber plug that comes with the ink? When I removed the rubber plug, the ink got all over my hands!!
Thank you so much for this video! I just got my first glass dip pen as a Christmas gift & I’ll try it out now 🤩 Do you have these tips written down somewhere too so I can reference them if needed?
We have it in blog format here! www.jetpens.com/blog/How-to-Use-a-Glass-Dip-Pen/pt/344
I love glass pens
whaaaaaaat? I had no idea something like this exists. Lol it came into my “recommended” feed. Curiosity piqued!
Which is better fountain pen
Or the glas one.
What’s your desk called, I really love it pls answer
That’s an awesome pen 🖋🖊
does it come in stub nibs?
Are there different kinds of glass pens? Like different weights different types of glass?
I love glass pen ❤️❤️❤️💝
This pen is damn pretty!!!❤️✌🏻
I’m new to fountain pen and pop into your video luckily.
I’m curious, if there any glass pen can write fine lines? Should we always use a glass pen to write slowly? Can writing speed control the width of line a bit?
Hi there! Generally, glass pens do not write extra fine because of their material (the finer the tip, the more fragile; the tip needs a blunt edge to make contact with the page). When writing with glass pens, it's important to write slowly. Writing speed doesn't affect the width of the line as much as how much ink is loaded on the nib. For example, lines are much wetter and thicker right after dipping the pen in ink, and they are thinner when there's little ink left.
@@JetPens Thanks for your detailed and professional explanation!
can you write fast with a glass dip pen or does the ink not run down quick enough?
What a wonderfull voice. 😃
Does the Cosmo notebook have lines?
Beautiful! And you can also use them to kill whitewalkers.
I didn't know I needed a glass pen in my life
I want this!!!! Woahhhhh
So, I have a question which might sound like a sort of dumb one, but how do I keep the pen/ink from staining my hands so much?
In which way to we buy this pen ?
68th glass pens look so elegant
