True, Peter. There are several variations of essentially the same tale: where a boy of 'royal' descent named Idwal was drowned there by jealous relatives. And it is claimed that as a result all of the birds left the valley and that they will no longer fly over the llyn. 😁👍
Another stunner, David, even more so sitting here with the sun coming through the window and a beer in hand! “..having to make do “ with just the sunrise images and no video was hard! Great images and you showed your enjoyment of a superb day out, thanks for sharing it with us.
Really enjoyable video David. You are so right about being high up in the peaks and NOT getting blown off the mountain! It is a completely different experience when it's blowing so hard that the tripod is useless. There are so many nice shots from this vlog. I like several from up top just below the mist 12:42 is my fave. Well done! Cheers, Jeff
Fantastic vlog David and excellent photographs. I do prefer the Welsh name Twll Du, because most of the time it is a black hole. Glad you got evidence of no wind at the top, something I've never experienced in 10 or so trips up there.
Can't wait to see what you and Darren make of it - we'll be taking the Miners' Track from the Pen Y Gwryd. A medium grade slog, but no serious climbing required 😀👍
Thank you for a very informative and entertaining video, after all your hard work the weather kicked you in the teeth but you get that at least got a few good pictures and got your own back on nature....I bet you were shattered when you got back home...take care and thank you...

I did a similar loop a the other week and went up Y Garn, across to summit the Glyders Fawr and Fach and I can confirm, I had a fantastic time up there! The light was a little kinder to me at the top however, but great images and brilliant vlog, I look forward to the next one!
D Griff Gallery it looks like an interesting route, but now I’ve done the five peaks (Pen yr Ole Wen, Tryfan, Y Garn and the Glyders), surrounding Llyn Ogwen, I want to continue ticking off the Welsh 3000’s. Will look at Carnedd Daffyd and Carnedd Llewelyn next I think. Leaving Snowdon until last.
Outstanding day! I could only dream of making it up Devils kitchen! All tho you had the clouds come in, it was still a great vlog! For me hands down for video one of your best! Thoroughly enjoyed it and was wishing I was with you. Wonderful David
Hi David. Love this ! You've done total justice to my favourite place in Snowdonia with your excellent images. I had exactly the same still conditions as you last time I was there, and there's no place I'd rather have been. I'm back up there for a week in June and can't wait ! The image at 12:35 of Glyder Fach and Tryfan is simply stunning and definitely belongs in your portfolio. This is a fantastic video David - one of the best I've seen from the Glyders and Cwm Idwal. Thanks so much for sharing.

Beautiful and epic as you said from your last video. Great place to fly drone!!! ahah wish I was there. Thanks again for sharing and I miss Snowdonia as I'd been there a few times myself. I should head up there again when my kids are a little bigger!
it's kind of odd, though - I don't use the drone that much these days. And in the mountains much less than on the coast. I guess when you have a really high vantage point anyway lugging a drone up there seems less useful. I used it a while back when I was very local, for some follow and dolly style shots and other low-flying work, often can make do without it. 😊👍🏻
Your channel is booming mate!! Well done. You really are going from strength to strength. Great video, awesome images and amazing seeing you looking so healthy and happy
Well David, you've done it again. Looks like a great day up in the mountains! My favourite shots were the one of the mountain which was half in shadow, half in light, and one of the shots near the end where the rays of light were shining through the clouds between the two mountains. Another lovely set of beautiful images, well done!
Another brilliant after dinner viewing with David "Rambo" Griffith , breathtaking Dave,in both meanings of the word, over a 1000m ,Really?? Waiting breathlessly[pun intended] for the next one. Cheers Mate.
Lovely video David. That shot at 5:54 is absolutely stunning, although I also liked the wider composition you had framed in the video at 4:32. Also loved the image at 6:50 and at 10:06. A very successful trip by the looks of it
Really enjoyed that Mr G, was great to see the fantastic place again and from a higher perspective as we didnt climb when we went there in November, stunning images yet again, and how clam was the weather, very nice yet strange ha

Great video David, it's really pleasing to see someone doing mountain landscape photography with Micro four thirds equipment. I was in the Ogwen valley over the end of March and got some great shots with my mark 1 em10. Lovely atmospheric work, I really like the monochrome shot. Thanks Del.
Hi Del, many thanks for tuning in. Glad you enjoy Ogwen as much as I do - I went for the Olympus system so that these sorts of outings would be more feasible for me as my old Nikon system was getting too cumbersome. Very pleased with the switch and many more trips across from the island are planned! 😀👍
Great content David loved the pictures 12 hours out on the hills sounds great fresh air and no sound of the M25 it hums most of the time. (I live in Hertfordshire) you can't get away from it, thank you for the vlog.
Ah yes I know what you mean about the hum of distant traffic. I used to live in the Herts / Bucks / Beds triangle myself. Many years hankering to return home 😀👍
Yes it's a great ridge walk, but quite busy at times nowadays - when I started hiking 35 years ago it was only very hard core people on the 3k foot peaks! 😀👍
Thoroughly enjoyed the vlog David, you've captured some cracking images. I especially like the reflection of Pen yr Ole Wen in Llyn Idwal (number 4 in the sequence on your website), and also number 13 in the same sequence. I noticed a monochrome conversion amongst them as well. Looks like you had a great hike.
Hi Hugh, yes I did convert one to mono - most unlike me of course! But there were almost zero colour hues in the RAW, so I elected to go with form and texture - and B&W lent itself more to some aggressive contrast enhancement 😀👍
Amazing vlogg and totally entertained throughout, right up my street with every image and your first class mountain safety and photography skills will keep me watching and enjoying, the added bonus, I always seem to learn something from your willingness to share. :-)
Hi James, thanks so much for tuning in and getting in touch - much appreciated. I tend to stay off the high ridges in snow and ice because I'm so old. Used to think nothing of it, but don't even have any spikes these days 😀👍
Glyders, photography, and someone who knows how to pronounce the place names correctly! Liked and subscribed. I'm hoping to return here soon after 40 years gap, this time armed with my trusty Canons and a frotto.
I really enjoyed this vlog. Some lovely images, the more I watch, the more impressed I am with that camera, really tempted to jump fully into micro four thirds. Looks like a beautiful place to visit and photograph. 👍
The thing is though Mike, I went for a system that facilitates these big hikes, so you might have less need to go lightweight and avoid the sensor size compromise. Mind you, that offer to meet up and take you into the hills still stands!! 😀👍
Twelve hours! Interesting to see how passion fuels our endurance. Fabulous location and images. The mist spilling over the ridge was spectacular. Well done David. @@DGriffGallery welcome, one or 2 of the locations you have filmed are now on my list, landscape photography is brilliant and the area is great, cheers.
Loved that last shot of the sunbeams over the dark valley (or should that be cwm?) The Glyders have been my nemesis, I get cloud every time I go up there, including the worst whiteout I've ever experienced. One day I'll see that ridge properly...
Absolutely love this vlog , your shots of pen yr ole wen, Castell y gwynt and well all of them, I absolutely love Snowdonia/North Wales and honestly Mr G these images gave me goosebumps. Hi David, I’m really enjoying your channel and presentation style. I wonder if you could do a vlog specifically about the filters you use, how and when etc?
D Griff Gallery thats fantastic David. I have the same system as you and have just invested in a starter filter kit from Nisi. To date I’m well versed with polarisers but grads and ND’s are a new adventure for me
That is a stunning shot at 5:50, but i actually think i preferred it even wider when you were gearing up to get the still shot, at 4:35...at least i assumed that was a video shot there, it was so still it could have been a photo?
Quite right, Jeff, it was the "composition" video - but it was super still. I thought about that wider shot, but preferred to close in on the mountain / refection combo as that was the main thing for that shot. 😀👍
Hey David - At long last - someone who understands depth in images. People bang on about dynamic range, but dont blooming well use it! Nice vlog mate. Very honest images! nicely done. Subscribed! Regards Ewan (From Scotland, living in NZ)
Thank you so much for watching, Ewan, and taking the time to let me know you enjoyed it. It's a lot of work doing these videos and it makes it all worthwhile when nice people like you comment. Many thanks 😀👍
Hi David, great video and images. I had heard that devil's kitchen was so called by mariners who would see the light bouncing skyward at certain times of year and obviously day. I went to visit my parents on Anglesey and stopped to take a photo of the Menai at Llanfairpg and saw the light bouncing from Ogwen and it did look like a devil's kitchen. I have a photo but can't upload it here unfortunately.
@@DGriffGallery You're welcome. If you see it first hand it is incredible and knowing the Devil's Kitchen area, having walked it, made me research more after viewing it. I can send you my poor attempt to pique your interest.
It’s an absolutely beautiful place to be I have never been as high as you it looks amazing. And the images are stunning have you ever been up tp Cregenan Lakes?
Hi Gerardo - it's the Olympus OM-D E-M1 mk2. The 80Mb raw files give you a huge amount of creative options in post, especially for tight crops. So I don't need to carry a lens longer than 100mm as I can easily crop in to a 300mm equivalent. 😊👍🏻
What a fabulous day that was... the atmospheric images around 9.57 onwards were just belting. You could tell with the smile on your face how much you were enjoying the day and as you said sometimes it's not about the images it's just about being in that moment. I have a little observation question.. at one point you were talking to camera and moved to pick something up to your left - the camera followed you as if it was being controlled by someone else - is that the new osmo pocket at work? Now, how can I word this... "You have a calm manner which is easily watchable. I have to say your photographs are at worst, stunning , and I find your vlogs inspiring, nonetheless" lol... atb Al
Hi mate, yeah that's the Osmo Pocket active track. I'm used to it on my drone and it's really handy to get a shot that looks like you have a cameraman in tow! By the way - just booked a few days fishing the Usk at Tal Y Bont in June - maybe grab a beer one evening? 😀👍
@@DGriffGallery That osmo is looking more n more a better buy than the GPH7B, typically I chose the wrong one :) Oooh, deffo, a short walk up to my fave viewpoint if you fancy too ;)
12 hours out in the mountains, can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing. Some fantastic images David. Is this area one of the lesser known areas to explore in Wales, I've not heard of it before?
What a great day out. Maybe me and you can hook up. I want to get up the top but never to sure about it. And if I was alone I may not of found my way back down. I don’t have a GPS only my phone. It looks so good up there.
Yeah we can do something along those lines, I probably won't be aiming for those peaks again for a few months but there are plenty of others and I'd be more likely to wild camp than do them in a day 😀👍
I was told by a Snowdonia warden I used to know that Devil's Kitchen is called such as when the conditions are right condensation can be seen coming out the top of the gap and it was said that the Devil was cooking in there.
What kind of witchcraft did you have to employ to get Llyn Idwal to be so still? I've been up there lots of times and the water has never been still!!! :D
There's something truly magical about Cwm Idwal .There's an old Welsh legend concerning the lake.
True, Peter. There are several variations of essentially the same tale: where a boy of 'royal' descent named Idwal was drowned there by jealous relatives. And it is claimed that as a result all of the birds left the valley and that they will no longer fly over the llyn. 😁👍

Thanks a lot. It's great that you've experienced the area so you get an appreciation of the epic scale of the terrain. Hopefully you'll be back and will get up onto one or more of the high ridges! 😀👍
@@DGriffGallery Most definitely hopefully be up in the summer again minus the pooches. 👍
Aw.......images are archived! Fach is my favourite mountain - anywhere! Request/idea put all images as slide show at end of video. Happy Christmas and good health to you David.
Hello Steve, thank you so much for watching. Obviously I can't easily re-edit the video, however I can most certainly help you out with a look at the images ... Here's a link to the ones from the shoot: photos.app.goo.gl/okZAP4texuTqEnS99
Hi David, I’m really enjoying your channel and presentation style. I wonder if you could do a vlog specifically about the filters you use, how and when etc?
More than happy to Ray - and many thanks for watching - I'll cover it on my next Q&A video, which will probably be in the next couple of weeks ... 😀👍
D Griff Gallery thats fantastic David. I have the same system as you and have just invested in a starter filter kit from Nisi. To date I’m well versed with polarisers but grads and ND’s are a new adventure for me
Great video and some beautiful images. please can you produce something on you post processing techniques, Thanks.
Hi Keith, more than happy to drop in a post processing outline when I next do a Q&A 😀👍
That is a stunning shot at 5:50, but i actually think i preferred it even wider when you were gearing up to get the still shot, at 4:35...at least i assumed that was a video shot there, it was so still it could have been a photo?
Quite right, Jeff, it was the "composition" video - but it was super still. I thought about that wider shot, but preferred to close in on the mountain / refection combo as that was the main thing for that shot. 😀👍
Hey David - At long last - someone who understands depth in images. People bang on about dynamic range, but dont blooming well use it! Nice vlog mate. Very honest images! nicely done. Subscribed!
Regards
Ewan (From Scotland, living in NZ)
Thank you so much for watching, Ewan, and taking the time to let me know you enjoyed it. It's a lot of work doing these videos and it makes it all worthwhile when nice people like you comment. Many thanks 😀👍
@@DGriffGallery You are welcome David - I know how hard these videos are, as i too, try and do content which is worth watching. E
Cheers Paul, you're not alone with that explanation so thanks a lot, I've learned something there which I'll share next time I'm up there 😀👍
@@DGriffGallery You're welcome. If you see it first hand it is incredible and knowing the Devil's Kitchen area, having walked it, made me research more after viewing it. I can send you my poor attempt to pique your interest.
It’s an absolutely beautiful place to be I have never been as
high as you it looks amazing.
And the images are stunning have you ever been up tp
Cregenan Lakes?
Hi Ken, no never photographed Cregenan. only fished there many years ago! 😀👍
Blimey Dave, some pretty spectacular ‘poor’ images there.
At best!! 😀👍
Some lovely shots despite the mist and cloud ! Anyone who says Micro 4/3 is the poor relation of full frame should have a look at your photos!
Thanks a lot Ray 😀👍
Great pictures !! Wich camera has that High Res mode ?
Hi Simon, no it's pretty well known, third highest ridge after Snowdon and the Carneddau.
@@DGriffGallery Ah, well just just nicely highlights my ignorance then! It's on my bucket list now 👌😎
Just don't wait for a terminal diagnosis!! 😀👍
What a great day out. Maybe me and you can hook up. I want to get up the top but never to sure about it. And if I was alone I may not of found my way back down. I don’t have a GPS only my phone. It looks so good up there.
Yeah we can do something along those lines, I probably won't be aiming for those peaks again for a few months but there are plenty of others and I'd be more likely to wild camp than do them in a day 😀👍
Hello David. I like your videos of the beautiful Wales. Why you shoot 5.6.
Hi Rene, it's because that the sharpest aperture for the 12-100mm lens I use and in most cases gives me adequate shutter speed / depth of field 😀👍
@@DGriffGallery Thanks for your answer. I understand.
Hi David, Are you sure it's called Twll Du not Twll Dyn which means something totaly different but apt :-))
Hahaha, I'm sure 😀👍
Would be a excellent place to camp and some Astro
Certainly would, and that's exactly what I have in mind - also for some of the quieter ridges. This one gets surprisingly busy! 😀👍
@@DGriffGallery let me know if I can join you buddy 😊📷
Course you can, I’ll drop you a line when I have something specific in mind 😊👍🏻
I was told by a Snowdonia warden I used to know that Devil's Kitchen is called such as when the conditions are right condensation can be seen coming out the top of the gap and it was said that the Devil was cooking in there.
Ah, that makes sense, thanks 😀👍
What kind of witchcraft did you have to employ to get Llyn Idwal to be so still? I've been up there lots of times and the water has never been still!!! :D
Hahaha so have I and it's rarely still - although dawn in spring / summer is as good a time as any to try to catch it! 😀👍
