Nah every teenage skater that only watched MTV wanted to be like Bam. Most skaters wanted to be like PJ Ladd or Koston, aka people who were actually known for skating not being a reality tv star. I remember back then a lot of kids carrying a bam board wearing the black/pink adio, don't remember them doing a lot of skating.

I've been a proud mongo pusher since 1985. If any of these young folks have a problem with that, then they'd better be able to show me a 540 on a fishtail deck with no concave and no griptape. Actually, don't do that. It's the reason I'm missing a couple of teeth. Har.

As a skateboarder myself it’s incredible to see his so liberating freestyle of skating, he just daring himself to do something more insane and comes up with very clever and tricky selection of tricks. Those Ollie’s on the funbox to Varial Heelflop out gets me every time. And he was an incredible transition skater.

A lot of people forget that Bam in from a different era of skateboarding. The game has changed a lot, so of course he isn't as tech as a lot of the new crop. I would rather watch Reese Forbes halfcab a curb than see a lot of skaters these day do a 15 stair handrail. I'm not saying that skateboarding isn't fun to watch nowadays, only saying that it used to be a lot more about style and form.

I don't know why people think that just because someone isn't a master pro at skating that doesn't make them a skater? Or they're a "poser"? Skating is a way of life. It's street surfing. We do it because we love the feeling of it. A skater is someone who takes a hard fall and gets back up on his a board. A poser is someone who takes a fall on their board and never skateboards ever again.
I can't do tricks like that for shit, but I'm a skater. I skate everyday. I busted my ankle, whiplashed my neck, fucked up my shoulder, arm and both of my hands and busted my knee. All within 3 weeks of skating, but I get on my board every day and skate. It's all about taking risks. I hate when people call other skaters posers.

There's been plenty of athletes that continue to go on and fade with age. Bam didn't even get to the 2nd or 3rd stages of what you see in pro sports when dude's end up being in their late 20s and early 30s still ripping it. If you want to act like Bam did it good and well during the extreme late 90s to early 2000s than fine.. Don't go moving mountains for a guy who lost his love for the craft well before age/life hit him. He shouldn't be looked up to in that light, more of a wasted talent if anything imo.

Back when I skated in the early 2000's I thought Bam was the most overrated skater on the planet. He was one of the most famous pros only because of Jackass and that he couldn't hold a candle compared to other top pros like Jamie Thomas, Andrew Reynolds, Geoff Rowley, Guy Mariano and I thought his skating ability was am level at best. Watching these old clips with no bias now he was pretty good and actually had a pretty smooth style. That one clip where he rides that huge bowl that says "BEAT A DICK" is one of the sickest kickflips I've ever seen.

Yeah he kinda sucked at Skateboarder, probably the worst professional skateboarder honestly. He's better than any average joe, but professional wise? The worst. However, gotta give him credit, he kinda made these home made stunt tricks a thing for modern day and pioneered it which blends so well with street skating.

@@WinnieTheTrain he did not suck as a professional. Why does everythintg have to be competitive? You need to watch more bam footage beyond this because you sound dumb
