  • This is just the first of many patch panels I need to install in my 88 Jeep YJ body. I built the patch pieces and installed them myself. Jeep Wrangler bodies are super nice to work on since everything is so flat and simple!

I’ve been watching Fitzee for a long time. Him & Ed’s Machine. It’s therapy watching those guys do their crafts. Masters. You did a good job there. I struggle with good welding.

Thanks! My main problem is that I don't do it alot. Just when I get good again, I'll be done! Setting the welder is my biggest challenge!

Yep I feel You're anxiousness. I went through the same thing putting my car together. all the fabricating and welding and bonding is very difficult, It just takes experience. I have learned a lot in that time.

Very good, that turned out decent! Having patience and taking your time is crucial, but we are our own worst enemies when it comes to that.

Good work, you seem to be progressing well. The important thing is you're taking your time when welding to avoid distortion.
That inner stiffener appears to be part of the inner fender panel which joins the outer fender/wheel arch at the lip.

Yeah, most of this thing is multi layer. Honestly that looks like where the majority of the Rust issues start. I am working to seal it up as good as possible so it doesn't rust back. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

not so bad, the life would much easier if you use 2 hardwood pieces as a template, you fabricate 2 exactly identical shapes then you insert the sheetmetal that you have leaving the width of the desired flange left to be lolded .
You yse a metal hammer to fold the flange to the desired shape.
the result is a perfectly formed sheetmetal part that is much less trouble to fit and the inner brace would be much easier to fit as there is no weld of the fascia and the fliange lip of the fender.
    good job on that fender

Just a heads up on the fitment thing. You're trying to apply fitment standards used today not when this vehicle was produced. And the blanket statement that all repop panels have poor fitment must be made by people who won't spend money on better quality stuff "and" be willing to take the time to perfect them. I'm 63 and have been doing this work for longer than most of the self described experts have been alive so don't listen to everyone.

Thanks for that tip. My only experience with aftermarket panels is with an 89 Dodge truck fender and it took alot of work to fit right. I appreciate the input.
