so glad it made the trip undisturbed...there certainly is something about the balance, weight, and geometry of the real thing that has to be experienced to understand, isn't there...glad you are inspired! it may have sat in a real dry environment for awhile during shipping, it was relatively tight when it left here, i was worried you might not get the tsuka off...but the seppa washers are not properly fit for the tang so that is part of the issue too...
..my knowledge of swords and knives is limited to this- you don't handle them by the part that does the cutting. looking forward to seeing & hearing more about this...!
right on! in japan the only time a blade is touched with bare hands is by the smith and the polisher...i think this is part of the reason there are still 500 year old swords in museums there looking new and ready for use to this day... islandblacksmith.ca/knife-use-and-care/
