Bill: I accomplished the same hike a few years ago. I was 63-years old at the time. Never been much of a "water" drinker and truly SUFFERED with leg cramps "all the way to the top". I tried very hard not to fall into a "panic-mode" which could have developed into something a lot more serious. Anyway, got to the top well past pitch dark, but the clear skies, full moon and stars made the whole effort worthwhile.

Yes, it's very rewarding to finish, even when things don't go as planned. It sounds like we both learned our lesson!

I have hiked it twice, Would love to do it again.
Stayed in fathom ranch a few nights, On one hike we had a little over 35 miles in our 2 &/12 day hike.
On our first one which was one night in the ranch, They were going through a heat wave, 114 degree, I did fine, but I had to pack everything in my back-pack, The wife had a hard time of it.
It was the last week in May , was not expecting it to be that hot.
Thanks for the video, brought back memories, Now I have to go back.

Great job, both on the hike, and the camera, editing, and narration work! I'm sure you'll be going back, so maybe play around with different brands of hydration/electrolyte mix, gels every 45min, and maybe backup plan, before it gets really bad, of a 5hr Energy Drink. When it becomes hot, get your head, hat, and shirt wet in the streams and at the water spigots. If you can keep your core temp down, you'll feel much better. You can even modify your drink mix by dropping a vit B complex pill into it, and adding (high quality)magnesium pills to it.
I ran that same trail 3 weeks ago, for the 4 time in 3yrs. Currently training for my 9th Rim-2-Rim in 8yrs, in Mid-August. The canyon keeps calling!
