He does the band justice. My favourite will always be Robert Lowe, but this guy is good too.
Robert Lowe was fantastic, but let's face it, Messiah Marcolin sang on their best songs, plus he had that iconic look.

@@qty1315 Tales of Creation was their biggest musical accomplishment, as far as intricate song structures, and definitely Marcolin's least annoying Vocals. On Ancient Dreams they almost lost their fan base with some overblown Operatic drama Vocals, and some ridiculous lyrics. Their album 7th Chapter was also great. Personally I like everything they have done up through their 1999 album. This performance is incredible

I came to listen to Crystal Ball, and I think this version sounds killer, the vocals are even better than the studio version, and this Strat tone is just amazing. The organ is a nice embelishment, it adds an Opeth-ian feel to the whole.
It's great than they still sound that good after all these years.
Totally agreed. I like this organ-rich kind of sound, it's different from the studio versions. And the naysayers extolling M.M. should remember that of this setlist, only three songs were originally recorded with him, so WTF is the point in comparing anyway.

yes, I love the evolution of this band and all the great vocalists who work with them, here the vocals on Crystal Ball just floored me.... and his intro to Solitude was also beautiful

Mats fits in perfectly, and does it with power, no effort and energy to spare. In other bands i would consider him average, but with Candlemass, it's just another way of experiencing all the greatness they have to offer. This is awesome.
Current Vocal Johan also singed on first album Epicus.

Great show but both singers are unique in their own way, both are great. I actually would rather hear this band at cranked volume with these type of singers than with the original one. I don't ever recall the lead guitarist sounding this great either with the original band, his solos are fantastic and with a more modern sound also, the whole band kicks ass with this new sound and though I like Robert more I would not diss them and would pay to see them live now more than ever. I guess being a lead guitarist helps to enjoy the bands lead guitarist, he has great taste, plays with lots of flexibility and is not boring. Sorry but... early Candlemass was way to slow and dry and I've now become a very big fan of the "new and improved" Candlemass.

Galera só sabe criticar mesmo, messiah sem duvidas e único o cara dava um show ao vivo, mas não existe essa de comparar voz, mats sem duvida pra mim foi uma ótima escolha se não a melhor o vocal é sensacional, o cara canta muito, mas é claro que não vai ser o mesmo do messiah até pq ngm é igual a ninguém, curti muito o show fodastico! Pra quem não curtiu basta ver os vídeos antigos messiah sempre será mito

Concordo com vc. Conheci o trabalho do Mats através do yngwie Malmsteen e logo fiquei fan do cara. Já o Messiah Marcolin juntamente com Dickinson e Dio são os três primeiros cantores de metal que ouvi na vida e os três que mais gosto. Mas o trabalho do leven é avassalador, Ele é claro não iria substituir o trabalho de Messiah copiando-o, tem personalidade musical própria. O Mats tem uma das vozes mais versáteis do metal, canta bem em qualquer região da sua voz e imprimiu sua marca no candlemass. Já o Tenor do Doom metal é inesquecível, mas o candlemass nunca colocou um cantor fraco em sua formação. Quem é fan curte o trabalho da banda como um todo. Tô com vc cara.

Messiah were a Diva and is why Candlemass won 2 times a grammy with original singer Johan. Mats is a great and human friendly unlike Messiah AKA Elizabeth Taylor.

I was there and don't remember that there were so many people in front of the stage. But then again Wacken has so many people that it just looks like it's full as shit even if there is so much space between people.

Not really. Candlemass needed original singer Johan to get Grammy Nominated in 2020. Candlemass is more praised with original singer than the Diva Marcolin.

Candlemass is considered as Doom Metal. But through their career they've touched on other metal styles too, for example heavy metal and 70s hardrock, Black Sabbath worship... It's a band worth checking out for sure if you like heavy and slow (mostly) metal music! :)

They do not need a keyboard player
It's not indispensable, but it adds something cool to the mix, especially since it doesn't try to take protagonism, but just to acompany and contribute to the "epicness" of it all. I don't mind the keyboard player at all.
Mats Leven just doesn't fit Candlemass, he strikes me more as like a power metal vocalist, he seems to wanna belt everything out.
