This phone never got the credit it deserved. It had OIS and wireless charging in 2012 and these features have only recently started to feature more widely at flagship products. Also you didn't need a ridiculous cover with this phone. It had durability built in.
1,5 years ago my 920's screen cracked, decided it's time to go Android, and bought LG G3. I love the G3, but man do I miss the build quality and feel of 920. I even forgot some people complained about its weight, as I think it's definitely one of its best features. For me, 920 is the most beautiful phone of all time, accompanied with the best build quality there is. Of the more recent phones, Lg G6 looks promising. It's like Lumia 930 (2nd most beautiful phone) but with back made of glass and a screen to die for. I just hope more companies had the courage to use these crazy colours Lumias made us fall in love with. Nokia, budget phones for the Chinese market isn't what you should be focusing on. You belong to the top. We miss you.
I had this phone since its release, used it as a main for a year and was too happy with it until it started getting really annoying with all the freezes, hangs, restart loops ... etc, but even after switching to other android phones, I still loved it and didn't give it away, I gave away all other phones like galaxy S3, S4, S5 after switching, but this phone has a special place in my heart for some reason! its different, and now with all the updates and windows 10, it became so practical and fun to use that I'm using it again as a second phone to my LG G4, and all the bugs it had back in 2012 are gone.
This phone looks really good, but my only concern would be the amount of games available on the Windows Store. Is there enough to keep people entertained or not?
I've heard a lot of complaints that the phones that shipped had blurry cameras. Lots of people are hoping its a simple software fix but who knows. Great review.
I loved this review! The new review style is quite refreshing and efficient. Any WP8 is not for me but I'll recommend it to my mum because of the UI: large text, bright colours, high contrast.

I love that red color. It just screams "look at me!" and that's a good thing. I'd also like to test Windows Phone 8 as it looks beautiful and so far it's got everything I need except for a few apps that are coming soon.

Great review, it has definitely made me think twice about which phone to upgrade to from my iPhone 4s when the time comes. The app situation isn't a big deal, but dealing with carrying over my vast music library is.
Great review Jon, I would absolutely love a Lumia 920 but since I live in the UK and don't live on contract the LG Nexus 4 is a much more compelling offer for the money.
This phone is so amazing. My goodness, this is honestly the best phone I have ever used (or seen) coming from an older Samsung Captivate. The Windows OS is streamlined, quick, and responsive and all of the major apps are there so I had no problem getting what I wanted. The Lumia can take some stellar photos and it is built like a tank. Nokia and Microsoft were a perfect couple to work on this phone. Just phenomenal all around.
I hope they release a new design for the higher end Lumia phones soon. There are minor changes with each iteration, but the aesthetics have remain largely unchanged.
that was my thought process too. getting a new phone every two years is crazy. but apparently you'd pretty much need one that often because of all the technological advancements. i'm still using an old clamshell phone from 2009, but the battery is terrible.
I have had every iteration of the iPhone since 2007. I just got the Nokia Lumia 920 today, partially because I wanted to experience something different from my iPhone 5, as well as a larger display. I still love Apple products, my iPhone 5 was great. I absolutely love this phone. Yes, it's heavier and larger, but I don't mind the extra heft. I love the free charging mat I got from AT&T. I look forward to using the device more. I knew going into it that there were fewer apps.
When it comes down to it, I want a reliable, personal platform. Windows Phone comes with most of the things I'd want to do with my smartphone every day: texts, make calls, manage email + calendar, use GPS, search for nearby places, use social networks in an integrated way, play music, and take pictures + video. Plus with the slew of apps from Nokia, my experience doesn't feel second-rate at all. Oh, did I mention, Windows Phone's UI's is stunningly beautiful? Live tiles are the only way to go.
On those two shots that you compared with the iphone, you can just change how the phone would take a picture. You can make it take very good pictures if you change the settings. I think you should of included the software in the camera and how you can use it. If you want to try, just click the ... and go into camera settings.
No, but you implied that I was saying that Windows Phone had little customization, so we both misinterpreted each others' posts. I own a Windows Phone so I know what it can do. I'm tired of customizing the entire UI and was bored of iOS so I went to Windows Phone and I love it.

This was recorded before the firmware update and if he had a a other opportunity to make a new review video a out this, he would be more satisfied with the overall outcome of the device. It definitely helped the picture quality for sure.
its not just the apps, the experience tends to lag behind ios and android. Plus, the apps that are available are not as up to date on windows phone. I do like how the UI looks though
It was, but then it was removed. It will be up again soon, not sure when though, I think by the end of the this month, definitely by the end of October though.
I have the Lumia 822. I got it free via Verizon upgrade. I almost, almost didn't because of this. I decided to go for it for the OS, and I'm really, really happy with it. There is a free app called metrogram which I use, where I can view instagrams (can't post them). I am just posting to facebook and keeping my fingers crossed on some unavailable apps, but I have found replacements that I am satisfied with. I am actually switching from an imac to a pc with Win 8 b/c of my phone!
Planning on getting me the Lumia 920 next month or the month after. I've always had a Nokia and I think it's great that they are working with windows 8 now. Apps is a bit of a bummer but I'm not an app junkie. Only have a few apps on my iPod Touch anyway.
Good review! I have a 920 and I'm not missing ANY apps that I need. In fact, I have some that iOS and Android don't: Word, Excel, Fhotoroom, Wordament, etc. The only thing app that I hear talked about as missing is Instagram. I don't think it's fair to say "so if you can't do anything" about this phone because I have plenty of apps installed. Nokia Music > Pandora, by the way! The cam is supposed to be getting a firmware fix for its JPG processing, so the sharpness will get fixed.
I don't know what that other guy is telling you. This phone has one of the best phone experiences, and the only people who won't like it are people who love customizing everything and people who like to have a bunch of the latest apps first. Most people who prefer to have those would still say this phone is very nice and is very functional. It has more functionality and customization than iOS and more consistency between each device, including Windows 8 computers, than Android.
I do not understand why there are nearly no unlocked phones out there in the US O.o In germany you get the phones either with a mobile operator or just at amazon or any other store without beeing locked to one operator.
in fact when i picked up the iphone 5 in a store it was so light i felt it was a toy but when i pick up heavy phones i can feel that i am holding smething in my hand and it adds more quality to the thing i am holding
Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive are excellent. For UA-cam, Metrotube is an amazing app. If you make the switch you at least won't miss the things you've mentioned
had the L920 since the first month it came out. no problems except the rotatary geear when you reset the phone. but once i bring it back to MS store, they replace it for me no probem. although there are so much more new phones nokia bring out after the birth of 920, in my opinion, none has the look better than 920, and major improvment performance that will make me to change.
This is the review that i was waiting for...now i'm 100% sure to buy the lumia 920... i'm not an app junkie....all i use my phone is casual photos, facebook, twitter, youtube, whatsapp, maps, notes, and that's it...now with the Office app, is even better, i think that i will become a WP person from now on
From the biggest Samsung Fandroid in the world I gave the Lumia 920 a try and I was really wanting to like it. I think Nokia made the best user experience you can get on a Windows phone but it's just not quite there yet. There is virtually no app support. The Halo Waypoint app still doesn't have an update for Halo 4 and Microsoft owns Halo. There is also no Pandora, Instagram, or even UA-cam. I loved the live tile UI, which I thought I would hate, but Windows Phone just isn't there yet.

You do know that it comes with the standard usb charger right? The wireless charging pad is just a perk, nothing obligatory. Matter of fact, I find it quite useful. I put it near my bed and it's a lot more convenient to just set it then plug it in. But of course you know better, since you have yet to experience it.
You're kidding, right? Reviews are supposed to provide information in a way that makes sense to the majority of viewers. This new style is way better than before, and Jon doesn't omit any information. He still has some of the best videos -- but his first look and his first impression videos are less "rehearsed" if that really does interest you.
This will be my next phone. I've had my Galaxy Nexus for a while now and want to try Windows 8 as it looks so good. Not worried about apps as long as it has most of the essentials (which it does) as I have my Ipad for everything else :)
I dont mean to sound biased or anything, im just a very out spoken person and sometimes my opinions come across as very strong. All i know is, anybody here who has tried windows phone, they have returned or sold it and switched back to an android device or an iphone, its a pattern i see a lot.
We don't know yet, we have to see tomorrow when they are officially released tomorrow. The Lumia 920 is definitely faster for Cellular Data. It also is cheaper than the Lumia 920 for Unlocked pricing. So in ways you are right and wrong.
I would like to try windows phone and this would be a great start but the fact that the app selection is so small just kills me I get one when the app selections rows

I thought Nokia was going down the drain with the advent of smart phones from Apple, HTC, Samsung. But now, and with the help of microsoft, I think they came back stronger than ever. It can only go up from here. Congrats to Nokia.
Lets start with the music and itunes. When you plug the Lumia 920 into your computer, you have the ability to sync music from itunes or windows media player playlists. It's completely automatic and is very easy. As for youtube, google is being a pain for not letting microsoft make a legitimate youtube app. However, there is a third party app called MetroTube which is arguably the best youtube app made. It's 99 cents but you can try it out for as long as you want. I personally paid for it.
regarding low light shots, this was a different review compared to the others that seems to be not a good one but excellent to the other. now i'm confused.

It is not REALLY lacking in the marketplace area like the reviewer claims. Any apps I've needed is there.

Got my Lumia 920 yesterday. LOVING it. I'm glad I moved to WP8 from.... a WP7! Haha well I was once iPhone/Android user but that's awhile ago...

I had an iphone 4. Got super bored with the ui. Preorder the cyan lumia 920. I fell in love with it. Would never thought ill be a nokia fan but i am.
