  • Here's a short video about the basics of how to cast streamers with sinking lines. These techniques will help you spend more time fishing and less time casting. Sinking line requires an entirely different cast than floating line. Hopefully these techniques help you out. Get out there and give them a go!

Why are you standing right where the fish want to be? Asking for Johnny.

Great information Kelly, thank you. Caught my first river streamer fish last week doing all your No No’s. Now I know why it felt a lot harder than it should’ve been.
Do the same rules apply using interchangeable tips?

In the words of my great friend, mentor and Letort legend "you can't catch a Fish if your fly isn't in the water."

As someone who has made conventional fishing content for two decades and worked with all of the big name professional bass anglers in the space, I find Kelly’s content to be a breath of fresh air. Always very genuine, insightful and helpful. I am literally getting back into fly fishing because of guys like Kelly being so motivating with their content. Bravo, Kelly and Slide Inn team.

I'm guilty of shooting the line, letting go of the line to obtain distance, and correct it does leave you extremely badly set up, to begin the fly retrieve having completed a cast. In fact I'm so programmed 'not' to hold the line, that I didn't even realize I did it. And yeah, nine times out of ten the line wraps around a rod butt, a reel, a rod ring, a belt buckle on your waders, around an arm, a leg or a wading stick. And yeah, with retrieved fly tactics this is almost a kiss of death, as you use up most of the best time when the fly is in the water, not even paying attention. But hey, I still try to convince myself 'I won' by managing to squeeze out an additional five or ten yards distance (it's a bad side effect of paying attention to too many casting championships over decades). And the amount to de-programming now to undo this instinct, as I said is no laughing matter. But struggle one must.

What rod are you using? Looks like the streamer x but I’d like to be sure.
