    Mike proving, yet again, that he can straddle the gap between classical and pop music without effort.

      I was always surprised he was never a member of, or collaborated with, the group SKY, who were famous for doing the same thing. He did briefly, at one stage, cross professional paths with Enya's manager (Rob Dickins), and again the collaboration would have been a natural one (that never happened).

    This did not appear on the recent Deluxe editions! I wonder when some bright spark at Universal will finally issue all Mike's non album material in one box set or whatever. It's really annoying to get 99% of the schtick and not the full schtick!

      Did you mean "close" ? Did you try to randomly run into this right after listening to good interpretations of the original versions like Fabio Biondi's or Trevor Pinnock's (or both, as probably happened 2 years ago) ?
      I usually like Mike Oldfield's music, and I certainly not against adaptations of classical pieces into other genres (either fully adapted or parts mixed into a new composition ... Therion or Era have full albums of this that I could listen for hours, could also talk about a million separate pieces like Beethoven virus or, speaking about Vivaldi, countless works that include parts of the 4 Seasons). You thought you were talking to some classical music connoisseur/fundamentalist ? Nope.
      But this here offers nothing, its notes are plain copied (hence not hard to "capture the infectious joy") into something that simply sounds far inferior to the original. It is too close to the original to offer a listening experience on its own yet too far to sound quite as good. If you want classical music successfully adapted into a similar style, listen to synth versions of Beethoven works that were written for the movie Clockwork Orange. Those don't simply copy all original instruments into new sounds, they are the result of a better adaptation work and bear their own musical atmosphere, making them interesting or enjoyable to listen on their own instead of defaulting to the original.

      Obviously you are a classical music expert, can you do better?
      Pity your English is not quite as good as your musical expertise.
      Should read "you are right" or "you're right".
      If you don't like it, don't listen.

    • @Keorl
      @Keorl 7 років тому +2

      Classical music expert ? Not at all. I don't see what makes you think I'm one or pretend I'm one in what I wrote. Can I do better ? Certainly not. But this is a very bad argument anyway. Fortunately no one needs to do better than something to criticize it, contrarily to some spreading popular belief (seriously I'm tired of this "oh lolololl do better or don't talk" argument). Sorry, english is not my main language. So since you don't appreciate that I try my best to use your language, maybe we should use mine and see how it goes ? Anyway, any grammar mistake I may have done has nothing to do with my arguments. But why do I bother talking about "arguments" to someone who can't use anything but ad-hominem and strawman (both being fallacy arguments) ?
