Benny Hill was brilliant! I still laugh at things I remember, like slapping Jackie’s shinny bald head! What Thames did to him was cruel and shameful. Thank you for sharing this wonderful tribute with us, Mr. Sean!
I was the late Grant Baynham's Agent back in the 90s until I stopped running my Agency. He was a presenter on That's Life. He was also a fabulous guitarist and epic comic songwriter.
Benny Hill was one of the world's best. Britain might only be a small island, but my goodness, we had so much talent here. Benny Hill's real name was actually Alfred Hawthorn Hill, born in Southampton 21st, January 1924,.my beloved late parents were big fans of Benny Hill, I can remember sitting watching him when I was a young girl, and we would be in stitches. You certainly don't get the likes of Benny Hill anymore, such legends.
😮That's so sad for Benny Hill, Neil, I am shocked at the Thames treatment. My whole family loved watching his show here in Australia for many years. He was just brilliant.😊👍🇭🇲👋
Well done Benny Hill. He was born in Southampton and served in the army during WW2. And, he did work as a milkman among many other jobs. I admire him for standing up for himself. I imagine he was loved around the world because a lot of his comedy was visual and didn't need words. I used to love the 'women' chasing at the end of every show but like a lot of comedy that makes us laugh I suspect it would be banned today. We are slowly moving towards a humourless world. Glad I'm over 60.
I’m amazed that it was possible to keep a life of acting separate from personal life. With today’s technology would it be possible? Great story, thank you. ♥️🇨🇦
Good morning Neil. Good for Benny. With that act we did see the real Benny Hill, someone who wasn’t going to let people kick him around. Thanks for yet another wonderful blast from the past.
Loved Benny Hill, such a funny man. His shows were a laugh a minute especially the "chase" at the end. Do miss these great English comedians, they were the best. Thank you Neil, for sharing this video.
Benny Hill was my Mother’s favorite comedian. She also liked Phil Silvers. I can remember watching them as a child and not understanding much of what was funny.
Unbelievable... just dumped him... ugh.... i remember the Benny Hill show over in America when I was a teenager... he came on very late at night. This would have been the 70's . I didn't understand his humor ..... but I was fascinated with what I was seeing because we didn't have anything like him in America. It was amazing how the scene would speed up when they would run or move around
My mum met Benny Hill several times when she was waitresses and said he was an extremely lovely gentleman. As a family, we loved watching The Benny Hill show. I can't see a remake of this is your life being a success. Growing up we loved watching it finding out about favourites peoples early lives etc . But now with all the social media, celebrities put out about their lives what great surprises are they going to come up with. Most of it is already out in the public domain.
Somehow, we were able to get the Benny Hill show in America, and we LOVED him!! We laughed so hard. I'll never forget that wild look he would get on his face! I always wanted to have supper with him, or at least a few beers.
Beautiful trees in your reports. Our trees are just starting to bloom. Big wave to you! 👋 Thank you for the report on Benny Hill. His comedy was classic and made me laugh.
I never knew This is Your Life was coming back ... oh dear! What a shambles that will be, who would possibly appear nowadays who's famous enough and interesting enough, very very few, or the latest reality TV winner maybe, uurrrghhh! I wish they wouldn't bother and leave well alone.
Benny Hill was always in late at night years ago! Guess US people thought it would be a “problem😁” if on earlier! Britain does have wonderful programs, actors, movies, etc!
This Is Your Life I remember Eamonn Andrews saying these words in his wonderful accent and Benny Hill was watched in our house along with all the wonderful comics of that era.👋👋👋👋
So if I'm understanding this correctly, Benny allowed all of his friends, family and colleagues to travel there on their own dime, then never bothered to show up ? Sounds like he would have hurt them a lot more than the studio.....
Still remember the speeded up tune ,whilst chasing girls, at the end of each programme. It was innocent humour of the time the the miserable " wokes" detest.
🙋♂️ waving back Neil. They've even had rain and floods in the United Arab Emirates this week; and I was caught in a hail storm out walking yesterday. This is more than just April Showers. I used to ❤ Benny Hill, and loved “Ernie, The Fastest Milkman in the West”. His shows must have brought in handsome dividends for ITV, and his comedy sketches were completely British in their content - and yet viewers around the world loved him. I think he was probably the first person to be the victim of wokery on TV, and what a shame his career came crashing down. Love the photo of Julie Andrews, Danny Kaye and Benny Hill being presented to HRH The Late Duke of Edinburgh. And I love that Benny got his own back on Thames Television 😂😂😂 I've just read some of our chums comments and, without exception, they all ❤❤❤ these Pathe News style reports because they’re unique and so interesting and informative. ❤ you Neil 🙋♂️
I always loved the Benny Hill show. It was such gentle humour, no nastiness, just fun. I understsnd that a lot of comedians were shy, I guess that comedy was something to hide his real self behind. I agree with you about 'This is your life' I don't think that there are the BIG people around to be interesting.
Good day Neil 😂 I love Benny Hill! And I love that you ran into him often. Who can forget him patting the bald guy on the head? 😂🤣🤣 It’s hard for me to think of Benny without involuntarily smiling. This is such a shame to hear after all he did. He didn’t deserve that treatment. Back then, image was everything. Today you can be more authentic. Perhaps Benny read the room and felt people in general wouldn’t truly understand the real him if he had revealed himself more. That still saddens me though bc he brought humor to so many. Thank you as always for sharing this Neil and keeping Benny’s memory alive. 🙏💙
If it was still on TV. The books 2would be empty. What with tictok, fb, and Instagram. Famous names live on the internet so much. If we care to look we know all about them. I loved this is your life❤❤
Good Morning and lovely to see you. Lots of rain yesterday. I love the This Is Your Life ! My mum said she didn’t like Benny Hill yet she laughed really hard at his cheeky humor, Interesting story. I saw one with Martin Kemp and I really enjoyed it as I admire him and his wife Shirley. Those were great shows, Thank you for the memories.
I don't think he owned his house Neil. He rented a place in Queens Gate, Loondon and then moved to Fairwater House in Teddington. I used to see him shopping at Tesco.
🌷👋 loved watching Benny Hill from America, unique humor. What about those two ladies with the tall blonde and the shorter dark haired lady, can’t remember their names but one was rich and the blonde was the wild hippie who others implied she was a man
Brilliant timing with this video Mr Sean, I've recently found some of his shows on UA-cam and I've been watching them - along with other brilliant shows from the 70s and 80s, so much better than anything you get nowadays - so this was perfectly timed. Will be watching another of his shows tonight while I digest my dinner, you can't beat a good Benny Hill show for laughs.
Benny Hill , was a Family Favorite , by ay of British Entertainers , alng with the two Ronnie's , "Sooty show" , ' Noddy & friends ' . Z Cars , The Sweeney , and Emerdale Farm , Last of the Summer wine , "The Prisoner " , are a few from those early - for us - days of television .
Benny Hill was brilliant! I still laugh at things I remember, like slapping Jackie’s shinny bald head! What Thames did to him was cruel and shameful. Thank you for sharing this wonderful tribute with us, Mr. Sean!
Who doesn't remember Ernie, the fastest milkman in the West?
My late husband was a milkman at that time, he got called Ernie a lot.
So clever with words
Benny Hill sounds like he had his head screwed on straight. Love how he handled the people who treated him badly.
I loved Benny’s humour. In the late 70s and 80s we, in America, were able to watch his show. My American husband loved him so much as did I.
Britain might only be a small island, but we were so lucky to have so many talented stars. 🇬🇧 🇬🇧
His characters were hilarious. I can't blame him for wanting to remain private.
l loved Benny Hill, he was a genius. Good for him sticking to his guns, l got many laughs from him.
How many people remember This is Your Life? That was a long time ago. I watched it as a child.
I was the late Grant Baynham's Agent back in the 90s until I stopped running my Agency. He was a presenter on That's Life. He was also a fabulous guitarist and epic comic songwriter.
We had this show here in the US. I loved it then and now - I think I have tapes😳😳😳 of shows from way back - don’t have a VCR though!
Benny Hill was such an outstanding talent and loved all over the world. What Thames did to him was despicable.
Loved cheeky, talented Benny Hill. Miss his witty songs and laugh til you cry programmes.😂😂😂👍🇨🇦
I grew up on Benny Hill. 😂🇨🇦
I really enjoyed _This Is Your Life_ AND _To Tell The Truth_ . The old shows are the greatest in my humble opinion.
Absolutely. The shows we get today are so boring. I'd rather watch repeats or an old movie in Britain than the rubbish they call entertainment today.
@@sharonseed I'm with you 💯 Sharon.
Bravo for Benny! He was a unique star. I was able to see him on the tv when I visited my brother. Now, that I am much older, I understand the comedy.

Thank you Neil,Benny Hill was truly brilliant comedian, loved his show.👋👋👋🇦🇺🇦🇺
In our woke society nowadays Benny Hill wouldn’t have had a career without a doubt he was very talented.
I believe Benny Hill was very talented funny man Neil . I liked this is your life . Big wave 👋
Good morning Neil. Good for Benny. With that act we did see the real Benny Hill, someone who wasn’t going to let people kick him around. Thanks for yet another wonderful blast from the past.
Good for Benny! These TV execs think they can get away with anything.
I loved Benny Hill's cheeky face.
Loved Benny Hill, such a funny man. His shows were a laugh a minute especially the "chase" at the end. Do miss these great English comedians, they were the best. Thank you Neil, for sharing this video.
None of today's comedians can live up to the old ones just not funny anymore IMO.
I remember watching Benny Hill. The man was not only brilliant, but funny. Was bummed when it went off the air.
Benny Hill was my Mother’s favorite comedian. She also liked Phil Silvers. I can remember watching them as a child and not understanding much of what was funny.
Neil you’re always a pleasure to see and listen to. ❤
I loved watching Benny in the late 70's in Albuquerque. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Neil! I always seem to agree.❤
Thames TV that was disgusting!! I would have love to have seen the "This is Your Life" programme though, was a huge Benny Hill fan 🇳🇿
Wow why did Thames just get rid of him like that if he was such a ratings puller? What a shame for him but I’m glad he got his own back.
I really enjoyed his show.
Unbelievable... just dumped him... ugh.... i remember the Benny Hill show over in America when I was a teenager... he came on very late at night. This would have been the 70's . Benny Hill was my mom’s favorite comic
Good morning 👋 Neil.
TOUCHE ! I love this story he wouldnt sell his principles. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe x
We always loved Benny Hill. ITV were crazy for canning the show.
Had a good old laugh every time i heard "Ernie", in fact I'm sure I still remember the lyrics! 🤭😂😂
Great story! 💚🦋💚Thanks Neil! 👍🤘🌹👑🌹

I remember him well. My dad’s favourite. I hated it. Benny gave me the creeps.
Benny Hill was awesome🌻I've spent many hours of my life laughing at his comedy. He deserved better.
Lord Louis Mountbatten has to have been one of the most interesting.
Good on you Benny. 👏🇬🇧🏴
I liked the waiter Benny Hill getting c drunker a nd ssrunjer as he served the wine. was rather clever
we loved this show, no one has ever been good enough to replace him.
The original TIYL had interesting people on who had done wonderful/heroic things not like some ‘star’ no one has heard of.
Benny Hill was brilliant in his cameo appearance in The Italian Job with Michael Caine, such a wonderful man.
Hi Neil..Canada here.. Thank you for that wonderful and sad nostalgia story. Benney Hill was a giant in his field
I dated a Scottish man and he introduced me to Benny Hill. What fun we had…lots of giggles. I wish things had always stayed good for Mr. Hill.
Excellent story, Neil. I have remembered Benny Hill since my childhood. ❤
Somehow, we were able to get the Benny Hill show in America, and we LOVED him!! We laughed so hard. I'll never forget that wild look he would get on his face! I always wanted to have supper with him, or at least a few beers.

He was so funny. Today’s woke society probably wouldn’t allow it. Some people have no sense of humour these days.
Benny Hill was so great! It's so sad that Comedy is no longer so "clean".
Benny Hill was always in late at night years ago! Guess US people thought it would be a “problem😁” if on earlier! Britain does have wonderful programs, actors, movies, etc!
I love Benny Hill! Just thinking of him brings a smile to your face 😊❤
Benny Hill was my all-time favourite
I loved Benny Hill as i love your programs Neil Sean ❤
My uncle let me watch his show when it came to the US, my mother was appalled.
This Is Your Life I remember Eamonn Andrews saying these words in his wonderful accent and Benny Hill was watched in our house along with all the wonderful comics of that era.👋👋👋👋

My late husband and I both loved Benny Hill over here in the U S !!!
