2018, FX4, crew, 302-A package, chrome package: 53k miles now, bought new, no issues other than adjustable peddles gear broke🤦🏽♂️ other than that, fast and powerful as all holy hell! Engine and tranny makes noises but nothing ever happened so ,4 years and 53k miles later, it’s a solid truck as all my Ford trucks have been. I posted my own UA-cam review myself on mine detailing everyone’s concerns.
I traded my 16 for basically the same truck in an 18 F150 supercrew xlt fx4 sport in the lead foot gray, of course the 5.0L 10speed combo with 3.55 gear. Super impressed with the additional power and improved acceleration. I would say the 10 speed is much busier than the 6, but it launches and accelerates much swifter. The shifts are extremely quick in sport mode. Kinda cool to cruze and get 21 mpg, and when you hammer down the 10 speed drops down several gears and she flat out gets down the road.
So you can just plug in a trailer plug with no trailer. . . .right , to disable auto stop ? I think it is ridiculous to have that feature !!!! During the hot summer with AC on , I surely do not want the engine to turn off when I make a stop !!!!!! Totally insane !!!!!
it will not shut off if you are running the ac. you can easily make a little jumper wire and put it in behind the auto stop disable button . take a piece of 18 awg and two tiny wire pin crimps. make it easily removable when you take it in for service. or
best part of the review, the truck drives like a champ as evident when watching you take your hands off the wheel about 20 times during the talking lol
I have a 2014 xlt with the 5.0 and I going to look at a 2018 xlt with the 5.0 today. This video was exactly what I was looking for, I think you just sold me on it.
When he said 50K for an stx I shit myself. In 2015 I bought a very well equipped XLT crew cab 4x4 3.5L ecoboost with a sticker price of 47K. This truck had sport package, rear locker, touch screen, heated seats basically everything you could get on an XLT except moon roof. 50K for a STX is just ridiculous. I won’t be buying a new truck for a long time they just keep raising the prices to absurd new levels. In 2011 50K got you damn near a fully loaded FX4 or Lariat.
Bought a 2018 Leadfoot STX super crew with the 6.6' bed, 4x4, 3.5/Heavy Tow package for a little over $41k after taxes on the 'Z' plan. Ford's MSRP was $46k, but actual the price was $38k before taxes. $51k? I think the dude in the video was pulling numbers out of his ass.
was not entirely apples to apples considering the wheels were smaller on the 2018 of course it is going to transfer more power to the wheels. that's called gearing lol
I am partial to the GM trucks but I really love the interior color options these Fords offer. That wine color and then that blue color, man I like that.
Still loving my Ford F150 FX4 5.0 with MBRP single side after tire stainless exhaust sounds just soooo badass....40,xxx miles and no other problems except for drivers side rear window bolwing out 2 weeks after I purchased it. I can live with one issue. She runs so freaking good!
I like this channel. Well spoken reviewer, young and knowledgeable about the product. Doesn't seem to do this because it makes money but doesn't really know about trucks. Subscribed!
I ordered My STX 5.0 4X4 for 42K. Race red and very nice. Came with 19" wheels and rubber mats. Perfect for farm work. 10 Speed is awesome. love my new truck.
Had my '18 Lariat FX4 5.0 for a month now and I'm hooked. Traded in my second Silverado (2012) for it. The biggest improvements so far have been the quality feel of the interior (no comparison to Chevy), the quiet, comfortable ride but most importantly the performance of the 10 speed tranny towing my 20' pontoon boat. Never searches randomly for gears and is completely comfortable in higher gears on the highway. The console shifter is a big plus for me as well. Complaints so far include the small factory fender extenstions (aren't mounted securly and depending on the position they are in, you can see them actively scratching the paint on the fender where they make contact. The SYNC seems to get super confused and lags at startup. I've been able to reverse this for brief moments with a fresh pairing of my phone but it seems to return. My next step will likely be a maser reset I suppose. The fuel economy has been total rubbish but that's completely my doing having discovered the fun of driving in sport mode. Like everyone else, I can't stand the auto engine shut off (FordScan in my future). The auto high beam function could use a little adderall to, it gets seriously confused in certain situations. It sometimes behaves like Michael J. Fox is in control of the high beams. I probably wouldn't have realized so quicklyi how much better this truck is had I not been upgraded to a new 2017 2500 Silverado at work, That truck is what completley talked me out of stepping foot on to another chevy lot, Great truck all around. Couldn't be happier! Great reveiew of this truck guys!!
really enjoy your reviews on the f150 lineup... just wanted to point out that in this video... when you were showing the new colors and mentioned magma red..the wrong color was put in video... I noticed because I bought my 2018 magma red in Sept 2017 . Small faux pa.... but hey man..always enjoy.the videos....keep.them coming
Thanks for the kind words Dennis! As far as the color is concerned- we pulled that directly off of Fords site so I assure you it is correct. Might be something with the rendering/image as even Fords 'leadfoot' looks a little goofy compared to our truck. Thanks again for watching- Justin
I got my 2018 STX supercrew 4X4 with 2.7L twin turbo. I traded out of a 2006 extended cab XLT 2wd with the 5.4L V8. The performance and fuel economy are NOT EVEN CLOSE. Trucks and tubos go together like peanut butter and jelly. This is my second F150. I drove my last one for 15 years. I'm betting this one will take me to the grave. (not to sound morbid but I'm 57 and plan on keeping this at least 20 years). If I end up having to get another truck ( however unlikely) you can bet your bottom dollar I'm getting something with 30mpg and at least 425 pound feet of torque
my dad just bought his " first new truck" a f150 2018 62k miles 5.0 Stx crewcab hopefully itll last him for 20+ yrs he has a 92 f150 xlt 5.8 with almost 400k miles still running strong for work
I grabbed me a 17’ 5.0 with the 6 speed. I was worried about the issues the 3rd Gen Coyotes, as well as the 10 speed, are having. I bet they’re great when they work but I’m a bit skeptical of new designs.
I now have an '18 F150 XLT Special edition FX4 5.0 w/3.73 gears in Magma Red color. I like the interior on the special edition. The factory exhaust is so quiet =[ .Plenty of power, quick truck in sport mode. I always have the air on in the cab so the auto start/stop never kicks in. Love the truck.
You can permanently disable the auto-stop feature by unplugging the very bottom cable in the white box to the left of the brake peddle. There is a white box with 3 plugs in it. Its the very bottom one with the smallest head. Kinda looks like a phone wall chord. My sales man showed me how to disable it. It works!!
Love my 18 XLT Sport. Really digging the STX grille, ordered one for mine will be here in a few days. Only thing I don't like on mine is the 2 bar grille.
Man I wish I was older and had my license because that is a beautiful truck. Btw I hope to see the coyote around for just a few more years cuz I love it. And also I need to see this 7 litre.
AT, are those factory running boards? They seem like what I'm looking for. They're close to the body of the truck, not a huge gap. Are they 5" or 6", do you know? Thanks!
The Limited "heated shift knob." Good gawd. I mean, come on. Anyway...first view of your channel. Very interesting, with pro-production. Thanks. I enjoyed this vid and have subscribed.
Really liking my 19 with 3.5 EcoBoost. I went with the bells and no whistles. 4x4 XL 101A 3.5 Electric locker Hitch 36 gallon fuel tank. Hey Ford.... Some real headlights would sure be nice! That's my only gripe. Maybe the fog lights would help...but I don't think so. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give low beams maybe a 3 High beams...6
Funny you mention the auto stop lol! I was going to buy a new 2021 F150, but couldn’t find one without the auto-stop feature, so I told the salesman, “you have the sale, but if you cant get rid of the auto-stop feature , I wont buy it”. Ill go buy an older used F150, and just rebuild it myself, before I’ll deal with the “auto-stop” bullshit. Its the most annoying feature ever.
Jordon Hviding you are correct after the 3rd time watching I seen the stock tires on the rear of the 2015. But it should make more than 270rwhp I would think? That’s almost a %30 loss for the 2015 and about %15 for the 18’.
I just traded my 2017 performance pack Mustang GT for a fully loaded 2018 XLT F-150 with the 5.0L and FX4 package in a supercrew layout. I just need to make the JLT oil catch can from my Mustang, to work on the F150.
Hey Mike! Unfortunately they are all equipped with the auto start/stop feature, standard equipment. You can disable it on the dash every time you start your truck or like another commentor pointed out, you could leave a trailer plug installed. Hope all is well buddy! -Justin
Hoping with Ram building nice interiors that Ford begins to step up their standard features and materials. The interior is the only thing that holds me back from pulling the trigger at that price point
Agree 100% Coyote is one of Ford's greatest. If it wasn't for the 3.5 it would be the best current engine. I just wish my '11 had that 10 speed, but hopefully I'll get an '18 in a few years
Eh, you aren't missing much with the 10spd. The 6r80 is a great trans and one that has been proven to be a tank. The jury is still out on the 10spd and long term durability. -Justin
Small correction, the 5.0 actually is the engine that hauls the most at 3,270lbs vs 3,230lbs per Ford’s brochure - www.ford.com/services/assets/Brochure?make=Ford&model=F-150&year=2018 Page #5. Great video though!
Your curve gains on your 3rd chart is wrong. It's not 88 HP more / 100 more TQ. According to your data on the graphs the increase in HP is actually 63 more HP and 39 more TQ to the rear wheel on the 2018 F150
Just bought my 2019 STX 4x4 5.0L for around $38k after everything. was time for a full size truck. Kinda bummed it doesnt have XM Radio in this trim level.
Congrats on the new purchase! Hope our videos serve as some inspiration for some future mods! First things first I say you look into a nice exhaust system to wake up that Coyote under your hood. 😉 -Zach
Even in Canada where the prices are higher due to exchange rate I can build an STX with a 5.0 4x4 supercab and the upgraded package for 45 K and a fairly loaded XLT for about 52 so those numbers seem suspect..
Marshall Williams 50 K for an STX is not a bad deal considering it's has everything the lariat has except leather and cooled seats. 50 K is a loaded STX. Sports package, twin moonroof 20 inch wheels back up sensors, navigation. It's the Best Buy all you're giving up is leather seats and cooled seats and you saving $10-$12,000 over the lariat and it's the same exact truck.
I never said they haven't been doing it the longest, etc- however this latest iteration is awfully similar to the new Tacomas, there is no denying that. -Justin
No sir- The '18 is higher compression and features the dual style fuel injection. Thats why you see such a big difference between the two model years in regards to power to the wheels. -Justin
Nova Man plus i was not saying that they are comparable truck... I was merley pointing out the fact that a 5.0 makes as much as a 6.4..........no shit the 6.4 is better for towing....sorry i critiqued your favorite truck................
(Insert sound of needle scratching across record) 4:20 THERE’S NO WAY TO TURN THE AUTO START/STOP OFF PERMANENTLY?!? I’m quietly putting my check book away. Looks like I’ll be keeping my 2011 F150 5.0 longer.
Hey Dan- You can permanently disable the auto start/stop feature through a tune or by leaving a trailer plug plugged in as another commentor pointed out- but that will also disable your back up camera and sensors. You can also pop the start/stop plug or harness out of the dash and jump the white and black wire which will also disable it- there are numerous videos online of how to do this. Hope this helps! -Justin
AmericanTrucks Ford There’s also a way apparently as I just found out that you can disable it without disabling the back up camera - from the f150 eco boost site: “/ x0xx/xxxx/xxxx) for 'auto start/stop' will permanently disable this feature. You need a laptop, a OBDII WIFI adapter and the Forscan program appropriate to your IOS. OR...you can just remember to push the button upon startup each time as I do. “
Just purchased a 2018 F-150 supercrew 6.5 bed, it was a top trim xlt with the sport package. I had leather put in it, lift and wheels and tires, and a couple other goodies; All for around the same price as a standard lariat. Two things I hate are the headlights and the auto start stop.
Coming back to this video 2 years later because I'm thinking about snagging an 18 5.0 soon

Hey, that's my dream truck, I can't get enough of that 5.0 sound
I love my 2018. Really digging the 10 speed too
Got my XLT Sport FX4 for $45 CND when a comparable Silverado Z71 was $52. That 7 g's is what pushed me to Ford
the best sounding v8 out of any stock truck
You can disable the auto stop by plugging in a trailer plug
Or put it into sport or tow mode.
So you can just plug in a trailer plug with no trailer. . . .right , to disable auto stop ? I think it is ridiculous to have that feature !!!! During the hot summer with AC on , I surely do not want the engine to turn off when I make a stop !!!!!! Totally insane !!!!!

That is an excellent ideal !!!! Whenever I buy a new truck, will surely do that cause I do not like that auto stop feature at all. It's ridiculous !!!
Garret Rowe got mine for 35k out the door same truck as in video had 8 miles on it.
That was a very good review. Love the truck; they just keep giving you new reason to buy a new truck - keep up the good work guys!
Thanks Mark- appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching! -Justin
The king of pickups.
Badass review Justin! Nailed all the major talking points and specs 👌 I'll hopefully be getting the 2018 f150 with the 5.0 v8 here soon 😎

david roberts well no one buys these trucks at sticker. I doubt 50K was there purchase price. Probably just rounding up on a mid to upper 40k sticker.
I love my 2013 f150 5.0 but damn.... nearly 350 hp to the wheels of the new 2018’s?! That’s a good reason to trade in for the newer 2018!

My favorite review of this truck so far
Im hoping to get a good deal on one soon but ill be going for a race red stx with the 2.7l engine
Great video.. had question would the wilwood brake upgrades on website fit the stock 20’s
Very sweet! I've been looking for my first truck. I want a Raptor, but a XL or XLT would a great start.
With those numbers i might go back to the 5.0...

Hey Ford....
Some real headlights would sure be nice!
That's my only gripe.
Maybe the fog lights would help...but I don't think so.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give low beams maybe a 3
High beams...6
Get the AutoStop eliminator kit, turns off the "kill my stater feature."
Impressive numbers for the Coyote!
Dyno a 2018 vs 2015 3.5EB..... lets see the difference there too!
How would that auto off and start when you stop would that affect a Ford’s forced induction system by rough?
Are the hoods exactly the same? I just ordered at bug deflector for a 15... but I have a 18!

7L is confirmed for the Super Duty. I haven't heard anything about it making its way into an F150...yet. ;) -Justin
AmericanTrucks Ford I’ve heard recent “rumors” about the 7L going into the Raptor.
Just needs black rims I love the grill and the lead foot color this truck rocks
Love the color
It cool that you can order an F150 in bare primer, all ready for the paint of your choice.
If u want to disable the auto stop start the controller is under the dash just to the right of the brake it has three plug big med
Thanks for the tip! -Justin
Wondering if those big tires killed the dyno #’s on the older 5.0
Josh C i was thinking the same thing. looked like 35"
Josh C they put the factory wheels back on it
I just don’t see a 100hp drivetrain loss, gotta be those wheels and tires.
Josh C which ones? I believe they tested both pickups with the same wheels. The red 2015 has 2 sets of different wheels on it.
Jordon Hviding you are correct after the 3rd time watching I seen the stock tires on the rear of the 2015. But it should make more than 270rwhp I would think? That’s almost a %30 loss for the 2015 and about %15 for the 18’.
Love that color but it needs some accents to break it up a touch
A big, medium and small unplug the small one and it stops auto stop/start the light still comes on when you stop but does not stop the truck
looking at a 2018 5.0 in 2024. Looks like a good rig

The STX front end looks fantastic, and raptor-esque. Way better than the standard 2-bar front.
That was the feeling of alot of our employees here. -Justin
Yeah, the STX grill is the best looking
Agree 100% Coyote is one of Ford's greatest. If it wasn't for the 3.5 it would be the best current engine. I just wish my '11 had that 10 speed, but hopefully I'll get an '18 in a few years
Eh, you aren't missing much with the 10spd. The 6r80 is a great trans and one that has been proven to be a tank. The jury is still out on the 10spd and long term durability. -Justin
AmericanTrucks Ford Thats true, the 10 is too new to know how reliable it is. I just figured it probably makes a good difference in mpg.
You would think, but it doesn't...trust me. lol -Justin
What is tow capacity for SuperCrew 4x4 5.0 5 1/2 ft bed and 6 1/2 ft bed?
7000
They had diesels in f150s back in 83 for the 6.9 idi
Did I miss the video of the tires and wheel combo? Or would you please let me know thanks!
This truck is 100% stock, including the wheels and tires. -Justin
@@americantrucks I accidentally commented on the wrong video but was wondering with the most current video of this truck
Oh gotcha! This truck now has the SOTA off road pro series wheels wrapped in a 33" Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ. -Justin
Small correction, the 5.0 actually is the engine that hauls the most at 3,270lbs vs 3,230lbs per Ford’s brochure - www.ford.com/services/assets/Brochure?make=Ford&model=F-150&year=2018
Page #5. Great video though!
You would be correct, good catch! -Justin
What gear was it dyno ed in
Didn’t know if I liked the color but now it’s grown on me
Yea, like a wart..
Can't wait to get mine in silver rebates are good in Canada right now $40k and some change canadian is what I got it.
Your curve gains on your 3rd chart is wrong. It's not 88 HP more / 100 more TQ. According to your data on the graphs the increase in HP is actually 63 more HP and 39 more TQ to the rear wheel on the 2018 F150
Mark Middleton still those numbers are way wrong the 2 trucks have 10 crank horsepower difference you won’t see 60 hp difference
😉 -Zach
AmericanTrucks Ford
Zach,
It sure does. I’ll definitely look into it. Thanks man.
XM Radio is only $195 more.
idk where these price figures come from. You can get a fully loaded platinum for around 60k, 50k for an stx is absurd
I could show you the window sticker- it was VERY high 40s. -Justin
I paid 39 for the top of the line XLT 2014 model.....
Thorazor_TM Liden a
what gear ratio did this truck have
I believe this truck has 3.55's. -Justin
Why did you skip on the FX4?
No reason in particular- this is just the truck we bought. -Justin
Ford's been stamping their name in the tailgate since it's 1st pickup. A lot longer than Toyota or Tacoma has been around.
I never said they haven't been doing it the longest, etc- however this latest iteration is awfully similar to the new Tacomas, there is no denying that. -Justin
this color grew on me during the video- very interesting
is Lead foot the same colour as Lithium Grey ?
It's close, lead foot may be a shade lighter than lithium gray.. but replaces it for 2018.
Is 2017 5.0 and 2018 one the same??
No sir- The '18 is higher compression and features the dual style fuel injection. Thats why you see such a big difference between the two model years in regards to power to the wheels. -Justin
Lol ford makes all that power with a 5.0. Power wagon has 1.4 litres more displacement and barely makes more power.
Nova Man no. Absolutely non sense. go do some more research please......for the love of god research.....
Nova Man i just looked it up your saying 29 more torque is gunna make that much of a difference................
Nova Man plus i was not saying that they are comparable truck... I was merley pointing out the fact that a 5.0 makes as much as a 6.4..........no shit the 6.4 is better for towing....sorry i critiqued your favorite truck................
Nova Man okay. Thanks.
Nova Man no Dodge can tow 14k! Lmao!!
What about 10 leather interior of a Lariat?
I'd love that diesel but, fuel prices here in California are INSANE!
Forscan is another way as well but some people are a little apprehensive or intimidated when it comes to 're-coding' your trucks software. -Justin
The dealer can permanently disable the auto stop start. At least my 2016 f150 is.
Get the 5.0 with the Roush Supercharger !
My husband's Truck has 5.4 Horsepower, it says it right on top of the Enjin.
Can you review a proper truck. As in a regular cab or Extended cab with a long bed please.
