  • During the the last ten days of May 1989, the San Francisco Bay Area joined together for an unprecedented series of musical and entertainment events. "In Concert Against AIDS" provided a forum to raise awareness, provide AIDS education, and raise money for the care and support of AIDS patients. The Oakland Stadium concert featured the Dead, Los Lobos, Tracy Chapman, and Joe Satriani. A major highlight was the guest appearance of John Fogerty backed by Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Randy Jackson, and Steve Jordon. Except for one benefit for Vietnam Veterans on July 4, 1987, this was the first time Fogerty had played any Creedence Clearwater Revival songs for a large audience since 1972. DTV digs into the background of this historic Bay Area event.

I was there. When the Dead played Brokedown Palace I remember I started crying. I just couldn’t control it. There was all this sadness and grief coming up plus my love for the band for organizing the event, that together just hit me so hard.

Thank you for posting this footage of an incredible event; meaningful to me that during the time of this concert, I was caring for my partner at home with end stage hiv / aids; he succumbed August 7, 1989. You are not forgotten, Keith.
The challenges to people living with HIV/AIDS, the need for education, for testing, accessible medications, basic vital essential life-sustainable needs, food, housing, is great and continue today for the underserved, marginalized and oppressed BIPOC communities. I work at an agency that is struggling to source unrestricted funds to continue to serve People Living With HIV/AIDS, and to provide prevention education.
It is my dream to pull together a benefit-a coming together of musicians, a concert that will attract the attention and support of the Puget South Sound community.
I am grateful to see this timely wonderful and inspiring concert footage; thank you.

Doesn't it suck that pharma companies invented aids to kill people unless you take the drugs the sell?

When the Dead played Brokedown Palace I started crying. I couldn’t control it. Nothing ever effected me like that before.
