You know Robert Reed apparently hated doing this show, but he sure made an impact on our lives and multiple generations. I honestly believe that this show should stay on the air 5 days a week all the time. It's that good.
Gene Hackman was almost Mike Brady, but he was unknown at the time. Robert Reed was a choice by Paramount to do the series. Robert Reed reluctantly decided to do the series.
I remember watch the reruns in the 90s. Somehow it became popular again thanks to the movies. While I didn't always like the movies but I enjoyed the tv series a lot.
All things said, he loved Barry, Maureen, Chris, Eve, Mike, and Susan as if they were his real life children. He bought them movie cameras and projectors that they were able to use on the trip to the U.K. which he paid for.
This had to be one of my favorite moments from the entire series. However, I must admit, when I first saw it, I didn't even know that Mr Brady was in on it. Then again, I was just a young kid at the time.
Robert Reed was a classical actor and you can tell that by the reading he did. But he did have frequent clashes with the director about the silliness of the storylines.
If you remember, Mike was the instigator of this. He got roped into reciting that poem and suggested to his son's to add a little humor to liven it up. The looks of exasperation as his poem is interrupted are really the only thing he had to act.
He drew the line at the final episode and refused to appear in it because he thought it was too silly. That was a shame - it was the final episode after all.
@christineturner1978, although true, he willingly came back for the variety show. He wanted to do the TV special, The Brady Girls (Marcia and Jan) Get Married.
The Brady Bunch is one of my favorite shows and I have the 50th Anniversary Collection on DVD that has the TV Series, Movies, the 1990s movies. You can't replace these actors if you tried. You can replace Jack Burns of The Andy Griffith Show though.
So glad you found that. It cracks me up how I get comments on this video still. The Brady Bunch was such a big part of my growing up. Kids today don’t have a clue what it was and maybe that’s a good thing ha ha
@@kbamoroso Such a big part of my growing up too, I remember when I was dating my husband, my brothers said to him, hope you like The Brady Bunch...lol!
@@pokergalpoker Kids don't know what we are talking about when we quote "Oh MY NOSE" or "Mom always said don't play ball in the house." or "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" or "caveat emptor" (Greg and the Car) or "Baton Rouge, Cindy, Baton Rouge." do you remember all those? haha
My husband and I were in a community theater production of "Gypsy" back in 2004, and at every performance, whenever we'd hear "Together Wherever We Go" from backstage, we'd always be quoting and acting out this part of the episode.
The lesson the kids learn is the difference between art and entertainment. Carol loves singing in the church choir but initially refuses to sing in front of an audience that paid to see a show. Mike thinks The Day Is Done is a beautiful poem, but has trouble figuring out a way to pass it off as entertainment.
It's a wonder they got Reed to go along with the punny antics. Then again, I am sure by this point of the series, Robert Reed was used to all the silliness, not to say deep down inside, he's thinking "somebody kill me."
Actually most of it is correct. He does skip some lines but the ones he says are right on, other than he forgets a "the" and says "can't" instead of "cannot"
Wow times have changed. Today’s helicopter parents would never allow children to be stagehands helping out at extreme heights. They can’t even walk home from school without supervision anymore.
I prefer the performance by Carol and Marcia. This performance by Mike and Greg is kinda boring. Even though Robert had his issues with this show he still performed his character Mike Brady flawlessly and I learned a lot from his lectures that he would give the kids in the episodes. R.I.P Robert Reed you are missed.
Well Marcia and Carol's song was catchy and to this day I can remember all the words but I posted this because I work at the boyhood home of Longellow so I just had to post it.
I never get tired of watching this. I love the feathers, chicken and water the most.
The boys must have enjoyed watering their dad.
I dont think people realise how incredibly funny this scene is... probably the best thing I ever saw on the show..
Me too!!
That was a very good scene

Yeah I've read that Robert Reed thought that the show was so below him but he did love the kids and his co- stars though.
@bonnieriffle8371 Yeah it's so sad when you're "forced to do something that you hate and get paid for it."
Yeah.

I had to do a dramatic speech in speech class in high-school 1988
I had seen this so many times I had it memorized thanks TV thanks Brady Bunch
Just as funny as it was back in the 70's. My whole family was LOLing at this one.
That was sheer poetry!! 🌧 ☔️
😂😂😂😅
I count this as one of Robert Reeds best performances
Keeping a straight face and his dignity through it all is definitely his best performance.
This had to be one of my favorite moments from the entire series. However, I must admit, when I first saw it, I didn't even know that Mr Brady was in on it.

I didn’t either-they edited out the scene where he planned it with the boys. When I finally saw that scene it actually didn’t surprise me.
I remember watching this with my sisters on Nick at Nite back in the late '90s. Had us laughing for a good 20 minutes!
Pluto tv runs the the Brady bunch from 630 to 830pm then Sunday nights 6 pm to 11 pm me tv has a Brady brunch from 12 pm to 1pm love it😃
Robert Reed was a classical actor and you can tell that by the reading he did. But he did have frequent clashes with the director about the silliness of the storylines.
I was thinking the same thing! I was surprised he went along with all this because he takes poems like this so seriously!
Katzi the fact that he was classically trained and took his acting so seriously is what made this scene so great..........
If you remember, Mike was the instigator of this. He got roped into reciting that poem and suggested to his son's to add a little humor to liven it up. The looks of exasperation as his poem is interrupted are really the only thing he had to act.

This clip was just so delightful.

The rubber chicken subbing for an “eagle in it’s flight”.... 😂
Thats my favourite bit!
I wasn't real close to my dad growing up Robert Reed became my DAD.

For those saying RR cut out part of the poem, etc. You all are missing the point of the sketch. It's supposed to be COMEDY.
Exactly. It's not an academic authentic reading. haha
I did a play called "A Romance Without Words," which was also LITERAL! ANYTHING you said happened, just like in this clip!
The lesson the kids learn is the difference between art and entertainment. Carol loves singing in the church choir but initially refuses to sing in front of an audience that paid to see a show. Barry, is a great guitar, player.does anybody know what kind of guitar Barry, is playing???.
Still great.
What episode is this from? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it?!
It's a wonder they got Reed to go along with the punny antics. Then again, I am sure by this point of the series, Robert Reed was used to all the silliness, not to say deep down inside, he's thinking "somebody kill me."
Howin the world did Barry and Robert keep a straight face?
Practice and rehearsal.
This was so funny 😆
Ouch poor Greg 2:18 didnt have to hit him could've just signaled him 2 stop
True, but it was just plain funny!
It was part of the act…presumably.
Funniest thing the Brady Bunch ever did!!!
Robert Reed must have hated this.
does anyone know what song starts playing???
I’ve always loved it ☺️
National Emblem March composed by Edwin Eugene Bagley
"Oh the monkey wrapped his tail around the flagpole," which the teacher calls by some other name
This is hilarious:)! LOL:)!
This was super 👍
Actually most of it is correct. He does skip some lines but the ones he says are right on, other than he forgets a "the" and says "can't" instead of "cannot"
Interesting that Robert Reed would do that, since he was such a stickler for detail.
At this point, Robert Reed was just over it. He was sick of being the victim of Sherwood's silly writing on the Brady Bunch.
For somebody who always HATED playing Mike Brady, but yet, kept showing up in Brady Bunch TV movies and reunions. Bizarre.
@@NeluThat70sKid ... He hated the show but he absolutely adored the kids. I think in some ways he considered them his own surrogate family.
The Bradys at The Rocky Horror Picture Show!
If you read the whole poem, it is pretty good. Also, Mike skipped a verse and didn't say the poem verbatim, if you read the lines he does do.
Considering he had to endure feathers, being doused with water, and a rubber chicken, it’s no wonder he didn’t get it all right.
Even though most of the BB was cheesy as f-ck, I have to admit this bit was funny...
How he keeps a straight face, I don't know.
It was part of the act.
is this really a Longfellow speach/ poem ?
For so long they left out the scene showing that Mike planned this with the boys that I always thought the boys were playing a trick on him.😂
Robert knew too Shakespeare to longfellow
This is so funny
What' the name of the tune at 2:32? It sounds like the lyrics to the first line could be 'We're the Brady Bunch.."
I believe it is Stars & Stripes Forever by John Philip Souza
It's actually the National Emblem March composed by Edwin Eugene Bagley
No one has noticed the feather hanging out of Greg’s nose in the end.
Greg is a great straight man.
Mike and Greg do a number together
anyone now what song peter and bobby were playing at the and?
Were they singing Time to Change when Peter's voice was changing, or was that another show?
@@kathyba no i ment to say End........
So here’s what you do if you have to turn something boring into entertainment.
I'm Gonna cry 😆
Funny thing: Mike didn't say one line correct and he cut part of the poem.
“We thought it was pretty square too”
Does anyone know the name of the song played on the tape recorder?
Do you have an iphone. Right before it plays, says "Hey Siri, what is this song" and then hold your phone to the screen so it can hear it.
It's actually the National Emblem March composed by Edwin Eugene Bagley
I would give anything to know how this skit ends.
I loved it but how do u download the video?
I highly doubt anyone today could hear “Bowser. Brave Bowser” and not think of Super Mario Bros lol
I heard Robert Reed liked straightening out a long fellow.
The Brady bunch as a whole was ok. The Thanksgiving movie episode and when the bradys were locked up in a Western jail were my favorites
Lmfao 😂🤣
The funny part is one of the few segments in the show I actually thought was funny
Wow times have changed. Today’s helicopter parents would never allow children to be stagehands helping out at extreme heights. They can’t even walk home from school without supervision anymore.
Yes, it's sad, and you need to ask permission to do what Peter and Bobby were doing.
Get rid of the words on the screen, because I don't want them on there. Thank you.
