- Thank you Dr. Kaylea Booth #southcollegeptaknoxville for demonstrating the Epley Maneuver.
Thank you Dawnette Waters IG@momsinptschool.podcast for being the patient.
Kaylea does a great job demonstrating the process while using the DIY posterior semicircular canal she designed to help show how each move impacts the direction of the otoconia crystals.
This visual was incredibly helpful to me as I am not a vestibular expert.
Here are the step-by-step movements for the Epley maneuver which is designed to treat benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), a condition caused by the displacement of small crystals in the inner ear.
Step 1: Identify the Affected Side.
Begin by determining which ear is affected by vertigo.
Step 2: Sit on a Bed.
Sit the patient on the edge of the bed with legs extended in front.
Step 3: Turn Your Head 45 Degrees.
Turn their head to the side of the affected ear at a 45-degree angle. For example, if the left ear is affected, turn their head to the left.
Step 4: Lie Down Quickly.
Quickly lie the patient down on their back, keeping their head turned to the side. Your shoulders should be on the bed, but your head should be hanging slightly off the edge.
Step 5: Wait for 30 Seconds.
Keep them in the position for about 30 seconds, allowing any dizziness to subside.
Step 6: Turn Your Head to the Opposite Side.
Without raising their head, turn it to the opposite side (the side not affected by vertigo). For example, if you started with your head turned to the left, turn it to the right.
Step 7: Wait for Another 30 Seconds.
Remain in this position for another 30 seconds.
Step 8: Roll Your Body to the Side.
Keeping their head turned to the non-affected side, roll their entire body in the same direction until they are lying on their side. Their head should still be at a 45-degree angle.
Step 9: Slowly Sit Up.
Slowly sit them up while keeping their legs extended in front of them. Take a moment to allow any remaining dizziness to subside.
Repeat these steps as needed, especially if their vertigo symptoms persist.
I have been a doctor > 30 years. No one ever demonstrated that to me as well as you did. I did not know about the Chin tuck when rolled to opposite side. THANK YOU!
This video is by far the best I have found. The tube showing the crystals moving helps so much to understand what you're trying to achieve, and it worked on the first attempt. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful. Kaylea did a wonderful job when she designed it. :)
Top shelf demonstration with what we are trying to accomplish A++++++
Good video. I did this procedure yesterday because of vertigo and it worked wonderfully.
The best video for this by far.
Very clever way of showing how the procedure actually works. Thanks!
Best video ever !!! Now I understand what’s going on
great video!!! It's nice to see what really takes place.
Thank you for this. I wish I had that tube tool to guide me through the exercise. I really appreciate you doing this.
Absolutely the best demonstration! Thank you! Will there also be one video for each of the other two maneuvers respectively for the superior and lateral semicircular canal BPPV?
Fascinating
Now I understand 👍🏼thanks for a video I understand
It actually works. I have BPPV and I do this and it stops it after a few sessions very quickly. It's amazing.
Yes great video! It was a little confusing when I saw it (previous channel) but yours definitely made me understand what positions to move from. Thanks.
Best example out there, thank you
It was incredible what she put together!
Excelente.
Thank you.
Thx…very clear thank you
Beautiful‼️
Thank you!! Kaylea is brilliant!!
Espectacular Explicación LO MEJOR QUE HE VISTO 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love this!
She is brilliant!! such an amazing idea and she did a wonderful job explaining it.
Thank you. Kaylea did a wonderful job. I am so glad she was willing to share it. 🤗
Спасибо❤
Bravo
❤❤❤
❤❤
Thank you for this work❤
How often should it be done?
Kaylea did a great job with making her own idea to help understand!! But you can also purchase a version to help students with understanding through Vestibular first. :)
Vertico best solution
Did I hear her correctly; 90 % of the time it is the right side that is the culprit causing the vertigo? I just had my 3 or 4 violent attack in the last ~13 years.
Also can this maneuver be preformed weekly or biweekly as a vertigo prevention measure?
This is definitely not my area of expertise. Just sharing my colleagues amazing visual. There are some really great experts you can follow Talk Dizzy to me and if you search vestibular on IG there are some amazing clinicians.
The right side was just an example. It's the posterior canal that's most common, whether left or right.
👍👍👍🇲🇦
My mother is facing vertigo due to this issue 😢
So sorry to hear that!! Incredibly frustrating.
