I thought I'll wait until after I have moved before even starting to process the raw fleece I was given, but now I am worried about what condition it is in as it has been in a bucket for several months already! I guess I could wash the fleece bit by bit in a bucket and use a salad spinner, but where to skirt or dry it? Living in a shared household with people, any communal space is out of the question. (Toilet is even smaller than the one in this video.) I guess clean "trash wool" is still ok to use as stuffing in pet toys if not in pillows?
I have some raw unwashed stored in a bag in a closet for 2, close to 3 years now and it is perfectly fine. I got some wool that was destined to be used as mulch (skirtings of some fine rambouillet wool) and I flicked it while still raw, washed it and it is absolutely gorgeous to spin. It has a bit of a shorter staple but yes you can use clean "trash wool" for felting (I really love using all my waste wool for core wool in felting projects), stuffing and all kinds of things like that. I hope you find a place to be able to practice your hobby soon!
Actually, I use regular trash bags, this fleece was shipped to me in this bag and it has already lost its seal! I feel your pain I wish I knew of some good ones as well.
I’ve liked my ‘space saver’ brand bags. They aren’t any better than the others to be honest, but they all come with a lifetime guarantee. You fill out a form on the website whenever yours break and they send you a fresh set! I’ve really appreciated that.
I’m glad you’ve made videos. I’ll go look for more.
Thanks. I’d never heard of skirting a fleece nor a skirting table.
Thanks!
Oh my goodness! Thank you so so much!

Can you link to the space saver bags that work best for you? There are so many bags that are total duds or only work once or twice. Thanks!
