Thank you for watching Crazy NK !!!!!!
We got this for the toddler room ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxdzUap46p9ViXhKZf5mK_bXOb89EHxTqq because of the bladeless feature. Actually has a lot more power than I thought it would. Can still feel the air moving well 6 feet away, which is farther than I would expect from a desk fan. My daughter dropped twice and still works. I haven't checked out how long it lasts on a charge yet, but the air output was still good for the few minutes it was unplugged. My daughter also likes the color lights feature, but I don't really care for it and can be annoying to go through all the options before it turns off. Overall, happy with the purchase, especially for the price
just wondering; if this is the easy way; what's the more difficult way like?
Cristijn de Vin now imagine the amount of money spent on stuff used to build this
MGTOWPORTUGAL stupid
Who can't stand the truth are the real stupid :D
Isn't the real Dyson bladeless fan based on something about ionic charging of the air, so that it rushes from one side of the fan to the other thus picking up momentum and creating air currents? If so, then to make one of those I think you need to build some high voltage generator or something.
Actually the real dyson fan is built exactly like the one in this video. There is a fan in the base that gets pushed through an extremely small gap that "amplifies" the air current.
Pretty slick design, I like the re-purposing of other household materials. I'm sure that by now you've considered some improvements. Based on what I see here, the two major problems immediately obvious to me are *Noise* and *Air Flow*. So for those two issues, here are some options:
1. Noise. This can be improved in several ways.
a) using a small piece of rubber or other vibration absorbent material between the wood support block and the motor would reduce the whine of the motor. Adding the same rubber to the base would reduce vibrations conducting into the surface it's sitting on.
b) balancing the blades better would reduce vibrations in the whole system. This can be accomplished when you are first using the compass to draw the circle on the metal: Once the circle is drawn, put the pin on the edge of the circle and make a mark with the pen on the circle, then move the pin to that mark and repeat all the way around. This will give you 6 marks, split the distance between them for a total of 12 smaller, equally sized blades. Next, balance the fan on a nail or pin in the centre hole, and mark the side that hangs lower (heavier) Use sand paper to remove tiny amounts of metal, and repeat until it sits perfectly level.
c) use sand paper or steel wool to sand all of the edges of the blades to remove any burrs or rough spots which produce the "wooshing" air noise. Painting the whole thing with high gloss paint or nail polish will also reduce air noise.
2. Overall air volume: At the end of the video, you can see the paper strips at the edges are moving, but the centre ones move much less, this tells us we don't have enough _oomph_ in this design for the size of the orifice. The "magic" happens due to a phenomenon known as the _Venturi_ effect (an example of _Burnoulli's Principle_); in a tightly engineered fan, the the throat/pedestal fan output is balanced to the orifice size (the big O made of the bucket) and the gap/angle that allows air to pass into/through the orifice. As high velocity air leaves the gap in the rim of the orifice, it produces a difference in air pressure across the orifice, which is how it is able to move more air than just what is moved by the throat fan. In this video, the throat fan output is undersized for the orifice/gap. The basic solution is simply to reduce the size of the orifice, thus increasing the pressure differential, subsequently increasing total air movement.
Getting the fan design to match the Orifice size, gap, and angle for maximum efficiency can be a severe pain in the butt. If I remember right, Dyson uses between 12 and 18 degrees for the pressurized air angle, but getting that precise in a home-made model might be a bit difficult. I'm also unconvinced that this is a critical step. However, the fan design makes a big difference. Smaller blades with a sloped curve would give the fan output less velocity but more pressure; as the size of the orifice is reduced, the pressure output of the fan becomes more critical than the volume of air moved. With some patience, a person could tweak this build several times to determine the best design. After all, that (plus some crazy math) is how Dyson came up with their ubiquitous fans.
How to tell me you work for Dyson, without telling me you work for Dyson. 😊
@@ThunderPickled hahaha, I don't actually! I'm a lowly power engineer at a chemical plant. However, fluid dynamics of air movers is very important to my career, I just usually deal with fans and blowers that are several meters in diameter. All the same principles apply, with only slight variations due to scale.
As a master electrcian, I can appreciate your input but I doubt most will. The work we do behind the scenes to keep the world running is under appreciated .
@@ThunderPickled well thank you for your kind words :D ... You're right about being behind the scenes, too. But I don't mind sharing my knowledge (or opinions) even if it takes 5 years for someone to come along and recognize it 😂
Very clever! Most of the people leaving negative comments probably couldn't make one. You have skills, sir.
Is a jet landing in the background or was that the fan?

It's an excellent video!
Would be very helpful for people living in villages & in poor countries!
Great idea!
I think people are over looking the fact that this is a 12 V system. This is a great project with far more application than a 120 V fan. This would be camping or useful during a power outage. Also would be very easy to use and maintain with solar power.
Thanks for the video.
how is it blade less if it has fan blades?
Dude the blade is hidden inside the that pipe
ravinder singh that doesnt make it bladeless
Wayne Wildman if a fan don't have blades where do wind coming from ? lmaooo
the blades are hidden inside which makes it as bladeless fan
but in this case it's just too noisy lol

Not sure I'd go to all this work myself, but I give him A+++ for creativity. I appreciate seeing how these fans work... they are pretty cool! Great job, great video!
Nice work....You got yourself a fan*
this is awesome, i looked at what bladeless fans are because of your video. I've always had trouble sleeping under regular fans they make me feel beaten up in the morning. Now i know why.
I had a floor fan that sounded like an airplane so loud it was, and it was full metal, made a wind too... Broke it last week when I was cleaning its electric motor, I thought I had it screwed but I didn't, so I ended up dropping it and unfolding the copper, poor thing!
If you are reading this Have a great day!
very nice. pretty loud though. any way to reduce the noise and maintaine speed/pressure?
After watching this. I realized a glaring issue bladeless fans have. Mid section seems to have the weakest airflow. I believe it gave me a stellar idea on how to improve bladeless fans now. Thank you!

WillyDeltaGaming yeah, thought it was like a tank's bullet shell or something..
First I would like to say I think this project is awesome and I loved the video. But the noise on this thing is about 200x what the Dyson model is and about 1/100th the airflow. That being said this is still really cool.
You made the cowl duct backwards. By using the wider side as output, you create a low pressure region within the ring, so you aren't moving any of the ambient air through the ring, it's just blowing a much lower volume of air from the fan itself. That defeats the entire purpose of the design. Try doing it again, but having output holes on the smaller side, and notice how the increased pressure combines the output air with the ambient air passing through the ring for more efficiency and higher output.
why does ur face looks like u advertise "smoke weed everyday"
Never heard of it, but whatever makes you happy. I don't judge.

At first, I thought this was another one of those crewel joke videos, taking advantage of someone's desire to save money. And then I did the research. No doubt, the same research you did, Nd learned you were working off the Dyson blade-less system. Very cool, how you worked out how to t turn a bucket's rim into an airfoil. By the way, you didn't have to built the impeller. You only needed a 40mm PC core cooling fan. These run much quieter, and are far more aerodynamically efficient, and yo don't have to cut your fingers to shreds on the diy turbine, whilst cutting it out by hand. :) Thanks for the video. Try the PC fan, and let me know how it works.
Jees man spell check ffs
I think the Dyson bladeless fan applied the same technology of the wind tunnel on a scale down version.
But its still absolutely hilarious....you just can't deny that lol

Absolutely... it is deeply satisfying to watch this stuff with the intent of never doing it. Probably because it gives us the feeling that we did our bit to prepare for the post-apocalyptic world after the next unforeseen asteroid impact.

How to make a bladeless fan that sounds like a harrier jet:
Step one: Drill countless holes in pvc pipe to distract viewers.
Step two: Construct fan with 6 blades.
Step three: Go to comments section and see who blasts me for making a bladeless fan with a fan with blades.
Done.
all so called "bladeless fans" are actually made with blades, even the originals. it refers to a type of fan with hidden blades, the name is just marketing bullshit and always has been. though why he would bother to make one that is this loud is beyond me. they aren't that expensive to buy. and quite frankly i'd rather have a normal fan, the airflow on these hidden designs is never as good as what you would get without the airflow restriction
Dummy there are no 6 blades there's only 1 BLADE
Justin White lol ikr
1 BLADE doesn't mean BLADELESS ... :)
Nom3xx all fans have a blade you cant make a fan without a blade maybe in the future they will make one with out blades but now they can't.

can make jet engine with this?
You could probably make something similar to an EDF (Electric Ducted Fan), it just wouldn't be very efficient compared to a normal propeller. Definitely a cool idea though, because there would be no risk of anything getting chopped by fan blades.
DT Jr I was talking about Jet engine with compressors and combustion, I meant to use the lower bottom cylindrical part
Very interesting... I'd imagine heat management would be complex. But the benefits could be really interesting, what with FOD and bird strike damage being greatly reduced because the "fan" part has no blades, foreign objects that get sucked in would just fly out the other side.
DT Jr yea that's what I was talking about
Oh yeh , Boeing is going to put them on a 747 next spring. Tesla has even announced that they will use these things to develop jet cars . George Jetson , your day has come.
How to make bladeless fan

You have an incredible knack for visualizing materials and geometry, nice job. Hope you enjoyed making it.
thank you. ill never do this in my life. just wanted to know how to do it.

Or at least, what not to do.
the whole point of a bladeless Fan is so its silent, the one you made is very load.
No. The point of a bladeless fan is that it doesn't have that pumping effect
Caro Babaknia Not just silence, also safety, especially around children
I don't know where you are from, but if there is no protective case around fans it must be a very weird country ...

Main purpose of the bladeless fans are to be noise free - and look at this dinosaur.
I knew that I was in for a treat when the first half of the video dealt with making a fan blade for a video entitled "bladeless fan"
the ending was the best
ty for not disappointing
To be fair, thats essentially what the Dyson fan has in it. albeit a much higher quality fan/motor.
Hundred-dollar saddle on a $50 horse.
Exactly... a real bladless fan can be had for 1/10th the headache at walmart.
tripjet999 it can be for fun
That's your argument? WHy do people make diy rc planes, pianos, guitars, or even lights? For the pleasure. It's worth more than money.
I guess you use your money solely on maintaining your existance, right?
Middle class can afford if they play it smart.
hi, you can put some ice inside the tube and turn in a air conditioning
or misting jets on the inside of the ring for some much more efficient cooling.
Steve Adams he could pee on it for heat.
Steve Adams or he could pinch a loaf in the bucket and throw the rest of that bullshit in the dumpster
Good but when i make these I use the smallest diameter porous watering hose my diy store has. Tried a mister first but it makes your floor wet. Sometimes I get ice forming on the hose if the humidity is very low.
did some calculations and i think i have the equivilant of a 20 watt freezer element from an 80 watt fan motor.
Next: how to make a blade-less fan with plastic bucket at home that doesn't sound like the engine of a 40-year old Uralmash tractor on the verge of implosion and certain to even wake up the dead in all cemeteries within a 5 mile radius (a.k.a. the "sweet dreams" blade-less fan as opposed to the "sonar weapon" blade-less fan). :)
So that's how the dyson fans are made, cool :)
thought he was going to drill through his fingers
It is odd to draw up an intersecting grid and not drill the intersection points. Why position the holes totally by eye when you can use crosshairs?
Screen the vent holes with dust filter and its perfect 👍👍
bladeless fan is actually have a hidden blade
yes
r.i.p logic
fuck that shit wrong, they operate at quantum levels. the blade is a lie.

just drill holes into a trash can and put it over a fan. it'll make it a blade less fan.
Fascinating videos. I love your work. And as imitation is the highest form of flattery, I began acquiring parts for this project. My issue is that the only motor I've found as of yet is from a Razor E100 electric scooter. So my question is: should I go with the large kitchen garbage can with that or the 30 gallon outdoor unit?
The purpose of a 'bladeless' fan is to be QUIETER than a regular fan.. not 50x louder!
Lee Manning This is home made. Did you see what he used for the fan? That was fascinating!
this is the deaf mans version. Also no airflow in the centre unfortunately.... but good effort!
+Lee Manning You are 100% WRONG. The purpose of a bladeless fan is EVEN AIR FLOW, with no pulsation. Bladeless fans are also much safer to use around children, or adults who happen to be morons.
try import Chinese manufacturer hongpai, noise of blade-less fan is 68db
I don't recall the blade-less fans being so loud...

Great project, but 1. not bladeless, 2. a whole lot of stuff other than a bucket!
Uh, mind explaining me how a "real" blade less fan works, if it's not this way ?
real bladeless fans work with a ionic wind
The Dyson fan works by having an impeller at the base like this one. However the cone is designed to multiply the air stream by inducing the air behind it to flow in the same direction as the jet streams. From what I can see in this one at the end, all the paper strips in the middle remain undisturbed, so this is definitely not an "air multiplier".
You can watch the man himself explaining how the original version works here: v=8he8afjQyd8
