  • Here's a close look at another amazing AMS (Accucraft) model: The refrigerated boxcar, or 'reefer' as they are known.
    1:20.3 scale / F Scale
**Though jokes may be made, I am only encouraging people to enjoy 'reefers' of the Refrigerated Boxcar variety**
    Be cool ;-)

This is my favorite AMS car. Well the coach too. Oh and the drop bottom gon. Well as well as the short caboose. Anyway when I’m grabbing a car to run, this is ALWAYS first out.

Ps. I bagged mine for about $60. New. In about 2006? From Hans at Gold Coast Station in California. When the Bachmann cars came out he decided to dump all his AMS at about cost. As he thought Bachmann was going to kill his sales of AMS. Well I guess not. While the Bachmann are great, the trucks are too tall. AMS is always better. I think. And I’m never wrong. Well there was that one time… anyway I gave Hans about $1000 and he gave me about 15 AMS cars. Wow.

@@ToyManTelevision Hi Dale. Ha! I feel the same, all are favourites. Timing is everything and WOW you got a great deal! I've been collecting 1:20.3 scale stuff since early 2020 and I find I have to go with "If you see it, buy it!" as I don't know when I might see it again. I've made good deals on some, but paid over the odds on others. The room in my videos used to be my dining room, but now it's just full of mainly AMS rolling stock! I do have a pair of the (never to be made again!) drop bottom gons still in their boxes, so I'm yet to have a look at those.
In comparing Bachmann Spectrum and AMS, I do have a video comparing boxcars of each manufacturer, if you haven't seen it. The Bachmann seems to be the wrong type for Rio Grande too. Some have suggested to me that it's more a Florence & Cripple Creek type. But of course, AMS are the ruler in accuracy.

Have you ever thought about doing special effects like Luke T.

Like your videos. Do the accucraft and the spectrum models couple up okay? I have a couple of spectrum models but would like to get some accucraft Jackson sharp coaches, but concerned they won’t have the same couplers?

    • @ThatBIGTRAINGuy

      Hi there!
Yes. The demo run in this video is a Spectrum locomotive with all AMS cars. AMS being the same company as Accucraft are all fitted with Accucraft couplers.
If you see my very first video which is simply a run-by, it's the Spectrum K-27, Spectrum tankers, Accucraft caboose and all the rest are AMS. See here: ua-cam.com/video/ILCbrHTkYt0/v-deo.html
My video on the Jackson Sharps is with the Spectrum K-27 also.
If you want to find me on Facebook or Instagram, message me and I can take some pictures to show how the Bachmann and Accucraft compare if you like.
I'm glad you like my videos. Thank you!

The box car looks awesome! I have a baby Blackstone one. Is your K-27 Accucraft or Bachmann? 👍

Thanks for commenting. Yes, it's a beautiful model. So detailed.
Ha! A baby one. Nice. Is that HOn3?
The K-27 is a Bachmann. It will have it's own video when I get around to it. So much to come!

@@ThatBIGTRAINGuy I managed to acquire an Accucraft K-27 Mudhen this year. It wasn't cheap - but it's awesome. Photos are on Twitter. 👍

Ah wow, very nice! I'm sure I'll get an Accucraft Mikado at some point (hopefully a larger one!) but there was actually an Accucraft K-27 for sale near me soon after I bought the Bachmann from America! 😂 It was too soon for another loco, I needed something to pull. I do love my Bachmann though. It came 'as new' from Colfax Railroad Museum.
