I really really wanted them to go with the OG sleeve. The actor barely aged a day since he made his first major speaking appearance on The Big Short and that season's supposed to be about going back and all that.

It's only his body that changes throughout the series... Kovacs is still Kovacs no matter what body he's in.

S1 was so close to the original books character that I fell in love with the depth and detail put into the plots and counter plots as S1 really gave depth to the "Meths" and James Purefoy was simply stunning in the roll and totally believable. I found it hard to fault the storytelling from the hard street life to the opulence of the mega rich, or even down to the tech details Cyberpunk at its best by far. As for Joel Kinnaman seemed to embrace the roll with his facial expressions and his emergence with the characters inner struggles, cannot fault it in anyway as he made the world believable in so many ways.
S2 imo it was like watching a cyberpunk version of blade ... very little emotion with railroad storytelling that came out 100% vanilla, no depth, no visual experience, very little if any depth of emotion even when the story screamed for it. I expected so much more from Anthony Mackie as he is a class actor. All in all I could scream my disappointment at the lack of depth and detail and very little plot lines to sink my teeth into after S1's story line set such a high standard and left so much open for a director to explore. Such a shame.
This video to me encapsulates all I love about the Altered Carbon concept and characters inner struggles. It is a lovely piece of work and I thank you for the share :)

Mhen when I watched the first episode of season 2, I was like: mhen that was a big mistake.. coz it feels different, looks different and just very different from season 1 its like there's no connection at all except for like uhh.. some of the cast and names..
It was like the spiderman 2 vs 3. In s2, The emotions and the storytelling is so good even tho there is not alot of actions happening. i've love every pieces of the character development every time he fights the challenges of being an ordinary human. Then there's the s3.
Season 1 is masterful is nearly every possible way, season 2 was… eh…

Tony Mackie is overrated, he plays all his characters the same way, boring, bland, emotionless. Watch "Synchornic" - he's just as flat there, where he should really be displaying a lot of heavy emoting. I don't think he has much of a career in front of him outside of MCU (or *inside* MCU either, for that matter)
I never knew people loved this show as much as I did. I think this show is crazy underrated

The plot was so convoluted and they kinda lost the "look" and pacing of the show? I might have been okay with the new actor not really being able to portray TK the way the previous two did, but everything overall seemed kinda not very well thought out. Even if there was a season 3, I'm not sure I'd watch it. I'll just read the books, I think.
I think Joel Kinnaman captured the essence of Takeshi Kovach in the best way possible. Anthony Mackie is too much of a goof to play him- even though he's a good actor. He's not meant to be Kovach
Takeshi as a character is maturing. He's no longer the violent and irresponsible guy from season 1. He fell in love with Ortega he understands pain more than ever. In season 2 he seems tired and rundown. His body might not be getting old but his spirit might be?

Will Yun Lee on the last flashback of season 1 to me was the best Kovach, but for the rest of the Season Joel Kinnaman dominated, I like Anthony's acting, but I just didn't see Kovach in it

We need S3 so bad. After playing Cyberpunk over and over I came back to rewatch this show and tbh even tho they're not linked in anyway after playing that game made this show hit even harder. I felt so bad for Tak for falling in love with Ortega even tho he knew he'd never have her.

Joel's acting and characterization of Kovacs was some of the finest work i've ever seen. It always gave me Clint Eastwood/Terminator vibes,while incorporating something new, and i LOVED it. Anthony was screwed trying to follow in his footsteps
Really sad he wasn't in the second season, but the book 'wrote his looks out'.

Anthony Mackie was a good choice as the new sleeve but the second season left much to be desired. A lot of the character and suspense building elements are missing in season 2. Not sure if that's the fault of the writers or producers because the opportunities were there. Poe was great though.

It was definitely a writing problem. The writers probably unintentionally turned Kovacs into a dumbass and as a result totally take away the powerful agency that made him so fun to watch in the first season.

I keep coming back to this video. Season one was a better sequel to blade runner than the actual sequel was. It took that world and expanded on what it could be, as opposed to the sequel where it felt like it was more of the same. Both are good but I feel like altered carbon is what all cyberpunk shows/movies/videogames should strive to be
I stopped after season 1. I tried. It’s just not the same without him, the vibe, the way he looks, walks, talks. He fits so perfectly in a dystopian cyberpunk setting.

I’m usually not into TV shows too much but this one got me _hooked_ , apparently season 2 didn’t please everyone but I think it was very clever how they referred to the past we saw in season one and even before.

There should have been a solid 2 seasons that followed Joel Kinnaman's portrayal of Takeshi Covachs. The guy was a badass and it made it difficult to become invested in a new actor who was polar opposite of the first.
