  • The Bounce Rig is a highly effective way to nymph. By learning how to properly fish the bounce rig you will be able to catch more fish and fish water often not covered by fly anglers.

    Thanks for the great video. Could you tell me how heavy your dropper tags are and what knot you use to form them?

    • @troutacademy
      @troutacademy  5 років тому

      typically 5x tags, tied from 4x from a triple surgeons knot. loop knots to the flies.

      Thanks for the reply. Could you tell me if you've ever tried Euro nymphing on the Provo and, if so, how it compares to using a bounce rig?

    • @troutacademy
      @troutacademy  4 роки тому

      @@alexargyros7186 Euro nymphing is certainly one of the most effective techniques. Day to day I would say it is more effective but at times the bounce rig is the best way to fish, especially on the Provo.

    What is the length of your droppers? Do you get a lot of line tangles with this setup?

    • @troutacademy
      @troutacademy  5 років тому

      4-6 inches is usually my normal length. If you fish it with a tension cast you shouldn't get any more tangles than with a standard nymph rig and overhead casting.... Maybe less.

    I tried this setup out for the first time today with mild success. The problem I was having was setting the hook. What's the best way to set it without pulling it out of the fish's mouth? Maybe I had too much line in the water?

    • @troutacademy
      @troutacademy  5 років тому

      Very possible that you had too much line but downstream in a sweeping motion to set the hook in the corner of the mouth.

    Do the weights need to be light enough to still tap the bottom? Is the length from the indicator to the first fly a few feet more than the depth are fishing. Looked to be more than 5 ft to me.

    • @troutacademy
      @troutacademy  5 років тому

      The weight will vary with the depth, deep requires more weight and shallow less. I typically like my fly to be roughly 12-18 inches above the weight with a second fly 12-18 inches above the first fly, each being on a 4-6 inch tag.

      Black Fin Fly Fishing thanks. So how far from indicator to the top fly? Hitting the Juan soon and feel like this method would help with the subtle takes there.

    • @troutacademy
      @troutacademy  5 років тому

      @@rudymcelroy6394 a lot of that depends on the depth of water you are fishing. Typically I say about times and a half or double the depth. If the water is 6 feet than roughly 9 feet to the indicator. If the water is 2 feet I might go 4 feet.

    Man, I wish I had success fishing the bounce rig like this, I don't know what the problem is for me. It is either me not getting enough strikes, or me not registering and setting the hook on the strikes, plus, it's always hard to tell whether I have not enough or too much weight on.
