- The Abarth 124 spider... With the 124 GT being given back to Abarth for the weekend I had this 124 spider to play around with. What modifications are out there for the Abarth 124 spider and how would I modify the 124? the Fiat / Abarth 124 spider hasn't been out very long so there are not that many modifications for it however this is starting to change. Here is what i would do to it!

*Thanks as always for watching everyone. I have a video I filmed in Spain and it’s a very personal side of my life I haven’t shared before that I filmed 2 months ago. Would you like to see it? Never shown this side of my life before so would be keen to hear if you would like to see it. Also it’s bit of a travel vlog. Comment below if I should release it*
Yes, why not?
👍
Go for it 👍
Well, now you got one! Excited to see the build
People tend to forget this is a sports car, not a race car. In my opinion, it's plenty fast and the rear breaks loose without any extra hp. Get a better turbo valve, and free-flow air filter, and if you don't have the Abarth version, get a muffer-delete exhaust. That's it. When you start engine mods, you're asking for trouble and MAY void the great warranty.
These cars are still going strong, owned mine since July 2020 (18,000 miles later) I love it. There are now loads of modifications for these cars and some serious tinkering has indeed taken place..(though not particularly on mine)
Almost everyone in US has a tune, EC or Tork. I’d get springs if the ride comfort isn’t affected that much.
Not everyone in the US has a tune (probably because it can void the 4 year warranty). The owners I know are happy with their cars as the are, after changing the DV valve and maybe different exhausts.
So far on mine........
Eibach ProKit - not a large drop but enough that the gap is now basically constant all round.....and the ride is still nice
17" OZ Racing Ultraleggera with ET 37 so they fill out the guards a bit better
Intake - the EC V4
Catch Can
GFB DV+ diverter valve
Ragazzon 70mm cat back (not the valved system) - I am planning for a 200 cell cat so do not want to go too loud at this stage
Various interior trim pieces inside from BLACK.it
Planned for the future.....
200 Cell cat
Larger Intercooler
and finally .......tune (problem is here in Australia I an not quite how to go)
Ah man that’s epic!
Where can we see some pictures?
love the blue abarth colour!!!
Looks stunning right
Agree...........just like mine !!! ;)
The blue is good but the bronze is awesome
theres actually plenty you can already do since its based on the miata...you can get ohlins and 250hp on the multi air engine relatively easily
I'd be interested in stiffer sway bars for my Isola blue 124. There's a bit too much lean at the front end on initial tip into a corner for me, and ride should not be affected.
18" rims, possibly MOMO Quantums
BC racing coilovers
Full chassis brace
Fatter anti-roll bars
Full ragazzon exhaust with sports cat
And a stage 1 remap
Nice!!!
Great vidéo Stef 👍, good holiday mate, stay off chilling and come with lots of good vidéos😉
Thanks mate :)
here in greece we have the MTD that tunes multiair engines and has good results
Awesome video mate! A similar one on a 595 would be amazing🤙
Thanks mate. I’ve got a few on the channel on modifications for the 595. There is one “how to get 250bhp” covers most engine mod options which would be a good watch :)
@@StefABtv nice one will check it out!
Great video as always mate...I feel like a broken record LOL. There are plenty of mods out there for these! ;)
Dude, us Yanks have had tunes for the 124 for a long time now. No need to send in the ECU either, all handheld tuners. Remember, our Abarth 500’s use the MultiAir when they showed up in 2011.
Thanks man. Yeah there are some mad builds going on out there. Also as your 500’s are multi airs there’s lots of tuning experience over the pond with them :) in the Uk not so much. We are still getting to grips with it lol
Can you provide links to those companies you mentioned in the video?
First things first.. Lower, spacers and 18’s! Preferably the ultraleggera’s and anything else after.
Priorities haha
It's MultiAir Tuning & Development (MT&D) in Greece 👍😎
And it's not just remapping, they do stage 1 and stage 2 camshafts, TD04 kits, hybrid Garrett 1446 turbos, manifolds etc etc. They truly are the market leaders in MultiAir tuning
Thanks mate! So much to learn about the multiair engine. Tuning is so different to a tjet
Do they have a website? I can only find their facebook page
@@ARDEN440i I don't think so. I messaged Chris to ask but he's not replied yet.
@@stevemiller2651 Okay if they do let me know. Thanks:)
Hi, mate. Sorry I forgot to reply! Yeah they do have a website in development. It's almost finished and they just need to tidy it up before they publish it. It's going to live very soon 👍
How is it possible that the spaces damage the handling of the car? Greetings from Italy!
Is this car good as a daily driver ?
How tall are you and how comfortable are you in the car in terms of leg/head space and visibility when the roof is up? Thanks
Ive got most of the mods mentioned 👍👍
Good man!
Posted pics on your fb page.. cheers..
It bugs me that the GT didn't have more power, the 124 weighs less than the new Alpine A110 and with 249 bhp that pulls a 4 sec 0-60, a 220 bhp 124 GT would have had me throwing my money at Abarth. Instead I'm on the fence and might well wait for 2nd hand Alpines to start showing up in a few years if I don't go for an A45/GolfR/M120i to replace my 695 before then.
I get it, these cars are about the joys of driving rather than testosterone spaying power competitions (and I love that, past cars have been things like Lotus's) but the new Alpine still manages to do that with a decent umph of power.
Bugs me even more that the kinda did go out with more power with the Rally version which showed actually the car can handle way more power (300bhp and over 400 lbs of torque) with very little doing to it in terms of suspension and chassis.
Oh gosh, where do I start here? The Alpine is a whole diffrent story (rear mid engined), not available as a manual and for double the price. Second hand cars are rare and almost cost the same or even more then from the factory. So, no mate. Not even a match for you. You will have more luck with a used Porsche Cayman, but when something brakes on it, it will become veeeeery pricy. Thrust me. The Abarth is a perfect car to add some spice to your everyday life. Commuting to work, or driving on small backroads at the weekend - that will be the right car to go. With more hp you cant drive any faster on public roads.
Ive got my Abarth Spider for 26,000 EUR including tax, and I think this is great value for a RWD car with an LSD. Most "sporty" cars at this price range maybe have more horses, but are FWD (lame!!!), and offer no LSD - which sucks. The only competitors for the Abarth are his japanese brother (Miata ND), and the Toyota GT86. But then again, no real competition because the GT86 has a roof and is very cheaply made from the inside. Although it is a better drivers car.
The Miata oviosly is a legend by itself. But it lags charisma. Thats why I choosed the Abarth.
Also, yes - you always want more horses. There is not enough of them. But that would add also to the price and weight of the car, since components like the gearbox have to be changed for stronger parts. Thats not the point of this car.
@@capuchinseven The rally version is a total monster and costs around 120,000 EUR. Thrust me, you dont want this.
@@Gentleman...Driver You've entirely missed the point that I was talking about the GT which promised so much and then delivered more weight with the same power. You're justifying buying the Spider which I would never buy and only became interested in the GT. I'm glad you like your car but there's a reason they stopped selling the 124 in the UK. I did buy a Cayman instead, it came with a full Porsche warranty.
@@capuchinseven Congrats for your Cayman. :) Nice car. But again: Who would buy a 50k + Abarth GT? Most customers would chose the Cayman instead.
Basicly Fiat doesnt make any advertisement. I dont know why. They dont sell because nobody knows that it even exists. And also this is a niche car. Even the Miata sales are disapointing. It seems that small roadsters are done. :(
Hi Stef. You said that the 124 comes out with Bielstein coils but did you mean coils or dampers?
About the coils for that car..£500 is cheap. I've got a 1995 mk1 Fiat Punto and I cannot buy decent coils for £500.
Cheers mate.
Hi mate, yeah my mistake meant dampers not coilovers :)
@@StefABtv Good morning Stef. No problem at all mate. Have a nice day.
Cheers
U should put ITB's on it
Would sound mental!
Stef ABtv thats the point.
Would be music to the ears
U would have to get rid of the turbo anyways to do that. Which even with itb's it would be slow
instead of spacers why not just put wider wheels?
That’s the better option but I also like the stock wheels. They look nice and some may not want to buy new wheels :)
Stef ABtv the stock wheels are supposed to be pretty heavy (over 10kg). the Gt’s wheels are about the lightest you can buy
The car is already amazing stock. If you want to rice it out, get the Miata.
It's not just the cost to the coilovers... Regular lowering springs are great. Don't think he knows what he's talking about. Please visit the 124 forum, don't follow this b00b.
Great blue color. Why can’t we get these colors in the U.S.
if you can afford an AMG45, you can afford a drive way, dude.
joking aside, these are two of my favorite new cars.
*Apologies for the audio in this video. Not sure if it’s from the wind noise but something wasn’t right.*
Almost sounds like the mic wasn't plugged in all the way? No biggy, still perfectly fine.
I think you may have to go the rout of Lotus thinking. Weight reduction. But in a car that's way smaller then a S2000 it will be hard. If you can find some high quality light part replacements, rims, hood, trunk/boot, and mechanical parts (trans/gearbox) might be a good starting point to increase speed/quickness.
Lower the car much more than it already is and you’re gonna tear it up on half the potholes where I live. :/ Considering I daily drive mine into a city for work, this car already pushes frightfully low on some of the urban roads. Lol Parking and mileage are pretty good though.
I really want to get a set of springs for my 124, but with it being leased I’m not sure if it’s wise. What’s your opinion Stef?
I would be careful. Shouldn’t really mod a leased car but I know lots who have done and change the springs back when they Give the car back
What would I do if I had a 124 spider? I would drive it like I stole it...
😂
Love it. So far I’ve had loads of fun modifying my 124 Abarth. This includes larger front mount intercooler and piping, cold air intake, GFB DV+ and Tork Solutions blow off valve, 3” 200cel downpipe, cat back Magnaflow exhaust, Tork Motorsports phase two tune mapping, front and rear ST coil overs, front and rear adjustable sway bars and endlinks, Cusco strut braces, 17x9 Konig HyperGram wheels with a few other aesthetic pieces.
My 124 has been tuned by JF Automotive and is at 205 BHP
Nice! How does it feel?
@@StefABtv it is much improved it is amazing what a difference it makes. More than happy to let you have a go if you want? I am a South East member too so you can't be too far away.
I"d probably end up like James Dean.
I think Abarth 124 spider is mostly the same as Mazda MX5 and if you look at JDM parts market for MX5, there are ton of the modification parts available. Look at Mazda!
Different engines though
Man, that blue is outstanding!!! Not in the states. Okay, catching up, didn’t know out AMG. Yep, 124 Abarth lowered👍👍 Jay Tee’s car is off the hook👍👍👍👍
I can't Waite to buy my 124 abarth 😁😁😁🏎️💨
The 500 been around 2008 not 2009 lol
Il multiair è il top
