  • The completely new feature in the fighting system of the Postmodern Era is the 2-wave battles of the province map. Different to the guild expedition the province map fights do not have a built-in preference to attack rogues first. This makes fights against 2 waves much more difficult. If you have succeeded against wave 1 your possibly already partially wounded team will have to fight against a new, fresh wave.
The battle shown in the video uses the automatic fighting feature. This can only be done without fearing losses because the computer only has very small fighting bonuses. In this case it is 25%. As an attacker I have a bonus of 90% on attack and defense.
But the fighting bonus is not the only factor influencing the difficulty of the fights. In the first provinces the computer's teams are always incomplete, which makes it much easier. In the advanced provinces you will find more complete teams and less units are from previous ages.
The bonuses slowly climb up to 40%. Those who advanced their great building with fighting bonus to level 10 each, will not have difficulties to succeed in these fights. Trying the same with units from previous ages will reveal how much better the Postmodern units are. Let us have a look on them in detail:
    The MG-Team
The MG-Team is the first unit with the special ability "Contact!", which enables the unit to strike back when hit even if the attacker attacks from a range. This even works for hidden attackers. The artillery is the only Postmodern unit which can attack a mg team from outside of their range. This means that you should not use mg teams if the opponent has a lot of artillery.
On top the mg team has the special ability „Dug In“ which increases their defense value if the attacker is more than 2 tiles away.
    ...
    The Commando
Like the Conscript of the Progressive Era the Commando has the special ability „Close Quarters“ (+50 attack strength), if the opponent is on an adjacent field.
On top they have the special ability „Hide in Forest“ as known from ranger, jaeger and paratrooper. Hidden in a forest they cannot be attacked from a distance. If attacked from an adjacent field they have an added defense bonus in the forest and their strike back ability is very strong then. The forest is the key to win with these units.
    ...
    The IFV
Since the very beginning fast units always were a great counter to artillery because they reached the opposite side quickly. Now the fast unit of the Postmodern Era, the IFV, got a strong bonus for attack and defense against artillery.
    ...
    The Universal Tank
Different to it's predecessor, the battle tank of the Modern Era, the universal tanks again have a small attack bonus on plains. More important is their strong bonus against ranged units and fast units.
    ...
    The Rocket Artillery
The Rocket Artillery again has bad attack values. On top it only has the same defense values as the Mechanized Artillery from the Modern Era. As all other units advanced a lot from Modern to Postmodern the Artillery looks much weaker than before.
The artillery always had a bonus on hills, but the Rocket Artillery does not. The bonuses against heavy units and ranged units are not that impressive. More important is the fact that they can attack ranged units from outside of their range to avoid their strike back. But even in fighting against ranged units universal tanks are better. Therefore I never used the artillery much in the Postmodern Era.
    The Champion
In the Postmodern Era the Champions are heavy units for the very first time with a better movement. But their values cannot convince me that much. In the Postmodern Era champions do not have the same huge importance that they have in the Contemporary Era.
For gvg players, not only in the Postmodern Era, it is popular to keep champion retreats of previous ages so that the Alcatraz continues to produce these champions. This enables the player to fight in nearly every age without the need to build military buildings of the required age first.
The Postmodern Era provides a very interesting, well balanced combination of units which I really like. Each unit has it's own purpose and attraction. Some will make everything with mg teams. Other will prefer universal tanks combined with IFVs. Whatever you prefer, fighting in the Postmodern Era is on a new quality level and makes much more fun.

Champions are a heavy unit with attack and defense bonuses against light and artillery units, which otherwise counter heavy units. I like having a few when faced with 2-4 light/artillery units.

My only disagreement with this video is that champions from the Postmodern Era are not that useful in comparison to the Contemporary Era. I just started the Postmodern Era for the first time ever and I love them already. It is nice have at least one champion during at least some fighting situations of PME, because number 1 them having fast units bonuses cancel out the light unit and artillery bonuses, number 2 it being a heavy unit means it can also counter that of Universal tanks, and number 3 PME champions are awesome against ME units and especially for using them on Modern Era GBG. This unit is also unique during PME, because its stats switches to that of heavy units starting from the Contemporary Era while before PME it has stats nearly identical to that of speedy units and has a high enough attack power as well to do a considerable about of damage to Universal tanks since the attack power from the champion is identical to that of the Universal tank's defense bonus combined with its plains high defense bonus countering that of Universal tanks damage in addition to the fact it also has Chivalry, which Chivalry and the plains defense bonus could arguably make the PME Champion equal to that of Univeral tanks.

Hey, I am in PME, I have just built an Alcatraz and would like to keep just two military buildings so it can give me those units and rogues and I can use the space saved for other buildings. Which two military buildings do you recommend I keep? Same question for CE. Thanks!

Can you give some advice of fighting in the industrial era? I am using four riflemen and four cannons from colonial era but I keep getting defeated, I recently deleted both of the buildings for a quest and am wondering what I should build in replacement

First I wanted to redirect you to the video about fighting in the Industrial Age. Then I noticed that I never translated it. Bad mistake. I will have to translate all these missing videos soon.
      To answer your question:
In the Industrial Era you can still use rogues on the province map. Even with only a mediocre fighting bonus a team consisting of 1 howitzer and 7 rogues works pretty well for most opponents on the province map and in the guild expetion. With the bonus provimces you can sometimes reach your limits. If so, conquer them when you are in the progressive Era.
You should also give the Jaeger a try. Play them manually. use the forest. Then you will have fun with it.
I hope this will help a bit - and I will deliver the missing English versions og my videos for lower ages very soon.

@@FoEhints That researching in the later eras must take forever. Over 100 forge points? Holy shit! Not to mention the amount of resources you'll need to develop them.

    • @FoEhints
      @FoEhints  5 років тому +2

The higher ages require more forge points, but players also have more forge points. Therefore up to the Arctic Future this was always in a good relationship.
With my most advanced city I am in the Oceanic future. This is a very long tech tree. It takes several months to complete it - and my city produces more than 200 forge points every day plus those from events and guild expedition.

shavar sappleton congrats, these new event buildings will speed up your further development.
From my videos you already know my preferences: moving fast through the ages, but for a fighter there is another priority: get great buildings with fight bonus to level 20, then have Alcatraz, make guild expeditions regularly and build a temple of relics early to get most out of these expeditions.
