Packing for a long weekend motorcycle ride can be tricky. You don't want to pack too light and be missing important items, but you also don't want to overdo it by bogging yourself down with too many non essentials
The easiest and most convenient way to get started is to get your motorcycle equipped with some decent saddlebags and even a tail bag.
Clothes take up a lot of room, so be selective. On a typical three day trip, you can get away with one or two changes of clothing.
- Tail bags or saddlebags for storage
- Tire gauge and tire repair kit
- Flashlight and small multi-tool kit
- Small First Aid Kit
- Helmet, riding boots and extra rain gear
- Damp hand cloth in a sealed zip-lock bag
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Chargers for your devices
- Water and power snacks
- Travel-sized personal hygiene items
- Sunscreen and chapstick
- Insulating layers

Packing clothes:
‘Ranger roll’ all. Awesome space saver!
Exactly, great way to pack!
Love your channel and content! You have become one of my favorite channels!
Thank you, much appreciated!
You covered that well. I carry too much 🤣.
My two biggest learnings from longer and shorter trips:
Under pack your available bags by about 20%. When you are trying to repack in a hurry (and doing it for the first few times enroute) things rarely fit back in the way they did when packing it at home.
Keep all the things you need for the day while riding in tankbag for small hydration backpack. I do both but I absolutely will not wear the backpack while riding...but the second I want to go for short hike, off bike tour, etc. it is one thing to grab. This has my sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, wipes, a snack, small backup battery and phone cord and, of course, water.
Bonus item...cheap combination cable lock big enough to loop through your gear and helmet. If you want to take that 3 mile hike up to the Gilas Cliff Dwellings and it 80f...you are likely shedding the gear but not afraid of rain. Slip the cable through the sleeve, pant leg and visor hole then latch it to you bike. Won't deter anyone but the opportunity thieves but how many hardcore thieves are trolling remote National Park parking lots for used motorcycle gear?
Great info, thanks!
I use the steel wire mesh Pacsafe in addition to the cable lock, I use the cable lock for my wife and I's helmets, put jackets, pants, and boots into the Pacsafe, cinch it tight and lock it to the bike. Like you said, it won't deter serious thieves but I've been using it for 18 years and haven't lost anything yet.
Looks like you got it all, and I need to get a good tire repair kit.
Thanks for the comment!
Great tips I’ll be adding the paper maps to my up coming trip. I also would add the usb port adapter if your bikes equipped with a trickle charger it’s a handy way to charge devices in remote areas or while camping
right on, good tip!
Thank you…. I want to make a 3-4 day trip very soon, so this was right on time!
Awesome, thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the tips! I already had many of these, but I added the paper maps to my inventory! I have done an overnight trip to New Braunfels, but have yet to do a three-day. I just need to plan it and go!
Nice right on!
Capacitor jump box. It’s relatively small, and no batteries to weigh you down. Mine is about two pounds.
I live in the southern part of Arizona, so it’s hot 🥵! I bring a camelbak 3liter a reusable bottle and sugar free liquid IV. Staying properly hydrated with electrolytes is critical here with temps 105+ from June until fall.
Yes absolutely good advice!
AAA (CAA in Canada) membership that covers flatbed towing for motorcycles. Cheap insurance if you need a tow. Including flat tires.
Yes definitely a good choice I’ve had AAA for years now!
Back up or second credit card
Yes good tip
Even better if you can carry it under your removable insoles of your boots. In some countries I visited (not on a bike) we carried $100, CC, mini/micro SD card with scans of the passport, drivers license and contact information on a .pdf. If you get robbed...you can recover infinitely faster.
That’s true!
A backup key can be a lifesaver as well. Keep it stuffed away and, lol, not on the same key chain. Smh
