I’ve got the 2014 27-inch iMac, maxed out specs. It’s the last iMac that can run all versions of Windows in a VM. With a good SSD and 32 GB of RAM, and 4GB of VRAM, it’s still pretty damn decent.
I’m buying one off a friend soon with the same specs you mentioned, currently using a 2011 iMac, really hoping I see an immense improvement and I’m sure I will
Still using my iMac 2009 (Core 2 Duo) in 2021. It‘s maybe a little bit slow compared to newer iMacs but... I am also not really fast so we are kind of matching each other xD
well this year I bought an mid 2011 27“ Imac! My first Imac! I maxed out everything like Ram and drive and now running Sonoma(OCLP) its so gooood! never going back to Windows again
13:05 is why I went with a 2014 Imac used for like 250 off Ebay to use for Final Cut Pro editing. It wasn't worth that price jump. Just throw Ventra using Opencore on it and max out the ram.
Hello out there. I wonder if your 2014 machine ran hot with common tasks like youtube etc? Mine always was hotter than the 2017 and 2020 models I had. Just asking. Thanks.
Thank you for the review, it is easy looking and of practical use as always. IMac is my favorite device from Apple. I like it even more than iPhone. I thought about upgrading of my 2017 model to 2020 model but after Apple announced M1 processor in November I decided to wait until the next model. I hope they will change design also. I think it will be soon, may be 6 months
@@neverenoughtech any time man. I like all your content, just couldn't think of a comment for the audio video. I put you in the Mr mobile 1mil suba contest. I Hope it gets you some more subs. Great work!
So, I have a question: Should I switch from an gaming PC (bcs I dont quite play any computer-intensive games anymore) to a maxed out specs iMac 27'' from late 2014?
How do you max out the imac 27" late 2014 ?? How much was the full upgrades. Still reasearching for my home studio to run FL STUDIO, logic pro, etc. Do regular computer stuff. Edit videos n photoshop.
*subbed* much love from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦 I’m torn if I should stick to my conservative configuration 8 core 5700xt 1TB ssd and spend an extra $1000 to get your configuration, I want to make sure I’m good for a while before I switch to 2nd generation of arm I’m just editing videos and music producing snd photos but I hope to edit raw videos in the future, what made u just wanna max out?
My take is if it’s a tool you use often to do the stuff you love, That is the time to go big. About 10GB I tend not to plug my computer in. I get good speeds with my router - or close to what I can get from my ISP. If it’s a good idea for you go for it.
NeverEnoughTech I’ll be using it every single day, I’ve just been watching reviews and its skewing my opinion because it says that the difference between 8 core and 10 core isn’t worth the difference in price. And i want to jump from 1TB to 2TB SSD because like you said, convenience. Ram i can add whenever 32gb is great to start but ill probably max it out like you, as well as, 10GB Ethernet i thought about that too but for NAS storage not for internet speeds. Sometimes these reviews are dangerous because they want to help you save money but at the same time you don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. Really humbled by your reply and i have some things to re-think about because i really want to make it work out, but it also might not work out. I’m only editing 4kk60 right now but in the future i want to edit 8k raw and the logic I’ve been getting is to get what you “need” right now, because you’re paying a premium for the things you “want” and in the future when you “need” something to edit 8k raw from the R5 or sony a7s3 then the tech would be advanced enough to be cheaper and the early adopters will pay for the premium, so I’m really torn and confused and i thought i was set on the 8 core 5700xt 1TB SSD but your spec is looking like a dream 🤔
The only thing you can upgrade is the ram and the ssd if you want to risk the screen falling out. Most apple products from this time period were non-upgradeable but still having upgradeable ram was nice of them.
Very entertaining review. I still have the 2014 retina. It just sits there mostly - I got the 16” MacBook Pro for my main computer now. For me it’s a good compromise.
Same scenario but I have a 2018 MBP. Both computers were fine until I got more serious with the video editing. I am going to return and just wait for the ARM iMac ... Even though the 2020 seems to work just perfectly for me 😆
NeverEnoughTech that makes perfect sense. I don’t do much video editing anymore and what I do do, the MBP is more that sufficient. I’m not a serious UA-cam-er like you. Keep up the great content. Very entertaining and informative.
I am strictly not an Apple person, but nice video. Good stuff, keep it up. Also, assuming people tend to change their PC in 4 to 5 years and also people should skip the first gen stuff, it is actually not that bad of a buy today. Just the resell value will be worse, if you care about that.
All my stuff trickles down through family. I decided to keep it. It fixed all my issues. Appreciate you heading over to the lesser known part of the channel
Holy shit you went all the way 10 core 5700xt 128gb ram and 2TB ssd I was pretty set on getting the 8 core 5700xt 32gb ram (self installed) 1TB ssd Are you just gonna use your iPad Pro until next year ?
Just picked up a refurb 2020 imac i7 512 ssd for $1659 at Apple store to maybe replace my 2014 iMac. I just dabble in video editing but found out RAM does play a role in FCP. My 2014 with 32gb ram renders a 5:30 4k video in 4:30 seconds while the 2020 with only 8 gb ram takes 5:30. Upgrading the ram will cost another $140. Also since apple refurbed the unit it came with Monterrey and there is no way to go back to Catalina which was the OS when manufactured. The 2020 does run cooler but I'm on the fence whether to keep it. I like the form factor and even outdated design. I considered the new M1 imacs until the removed most the ports I would need and the card reader. C'mon Apple.
Hey, I really like your videos. Can you please suggest a good wireless surround system or sound bar system for my TV.... It so much to consider and I just need to narrow it down to 1,2 options. This is the TV LG 86" Class UN8570PUC Series 4K UHD HDR SmartTV
Good soundbars that won’t drive you crazy but maybe don’t have the highest quality sound: 1. Sonos Arc or 2. LG SN11RG Best sound but poor user experience Samsung HW-Q90R/Q950T
NeverEnoughTech thank you! I will shoot for your first recommendation.... this is my first time so I want quality and great user experience. I have a 20x20 room and I don’t want to cut into all the walls if I don’t have to. I have to cut the wall where the tv will be mounted so that’s ok. Is there a good way to mount the sound bar other than the bracket that comes with it. Thanks again!
NeverEnoughTech I’m also assuming since this will be my first system anything will be a good experience, I just don’t want yo be to far off the mark. I like what you said about the Sonos being upgradable /interchangeable with the speakers, that’s a good future option👍👍👍
Jason C the Arc does not come with a mount. The official one is quite easy to install but is overpriced $80. You can look for an alternative but I’m not aware of one at this time :-( . This is a definite Sonos downside. Not sure if you are aware but you will need to connect the TV and Arc with an HDMI cable. I think it’s worth routing that cable through the wall as well as the power cord. Hopefully there is a wall power socket behind your TV.

Same. Amazing reliability from old Apple products. 8 years and still running strong.

4gb was the max spec vram for 2014 and 2015. Wasn’t until the 2017 that 8gb vram was an option.
