Beyoncé is a powerhouse vocalist and dancer, but Taylor’s ability to write songs that cater to millions if not billions of people is a huge talent that should not be disregarded. And yes she does write all her own music. I think the most I’ve seen for co-writers is one or two other people who are usually her friends. She also writes songs for other artists. She’s one of the most talented songwriters of all time and an extremely intelligent businesswoman, sorry not sorry.

The only reason Spotify’s streaming numbers started being incorporated into sales figures was because of the music modernization act passed in 2018 but besides the streaming count, Spotify generates huge problems including not paying most artists fairly. For now, it continues to succeed because they send lots of lobbyists to Washington to buy politicians but my guess is that it won’t last for long. We’ll see what happens in the next 5 years or so.

There is no denying Taylor’s impact. I don’t know why both can’t live in the same space without the comparisons. But what I do find funny is the media continues to compare artist to Beyoncé, who is 25 years into her career keeping up with the new artists consistently. Which only confirms her impact and relevance. First it was Britney Spears back in the day, then it was Rihanna, then it was Lady Gaga, then it was Adele now it’s Taylor and Beyoncé still remains relevant and on top for a quarter century. Taylor is the first artist who re records and re released ALL of her already known big hits. No one did this before, she also only did it because of the masters as we know. But if you think about it it's a genius move. Who says a hit song can't be hit again several years later with some new features, and a new music video. As far as we knew every popstar could release all their song twice or even 3 times through their career, it might be a hit every time. To be fair tho. In terms of performance and talent, Beyonce tops Taylor Swift by a lot. Not a lot of people can perform like Beyonce. A few points that weren’t brought up: Taylor has also made political statements that can alienate parts of her base, much like Beyoncé. Taylor’s first albums were country which especially at the time was a very small audience, Beyoncé’s were pop/r&b.
Tay’s hits are repetitive little earworms that get stuck in your head. Nothing close to the masterpieces that are MJs hits. Tay is a master at marketing, social media, crafting a relatable persona, and creating a cult following. Her fans feel like they KNOW her and the stories behind her songs. MJ and Bey are much more private and mysterious. People came purely for the music and performance. And Tay’s songs are wholesome enough that her millennial fans can now bring their kids along for the fandom and concerts. She’s accomplished a great deal, but her individual hits are embarrassing next to MJs. Nowhere close to the same level. It’s a disservice to Taylor to compare her hits to MJ’s. Man in the mirror alone outshines everything she has written. Her lyrics/storytelling are her greatest feature. The actual quality of the music tho…it’s derivative and basic. MJ created a sound, style, and performance that people had never experienced before.

Why is no one mentioning PRINCE? think about this: Prince got up to Michael Jackson's level in the 80's ALL BY HIMSELF (and I'm a huge Michael fan). Late to the conversation, but an europeans take on this discussion: Both Taylor Swift and Beyonce are household names globally, but I haven't heard a Beyonce song since like Crazy in love, she isn't as popular any longer. Taylor Swift though? Still very much popular, and I think that's the difference between the two. Both are amazing artists, but as of today Beyonce isn't charting globally any longer, she is more local as some comments have already mentioned. Olivia Rodrigo and The Weekend are bigger here than her as a comparison.
The comparison isn’t right. Taylor Swift needs to be compared to the Beatles and Beyonce to Michael Jackson. Taylor is a songwriter first, singer second, performer third. Beyonce is a singer first, performer second, songwriter third. The Beatles/MJ are the same. They are equally as important and don’t need this divisive drivel comparing them all the time.
I think people are very short sighted and use current numbers and existing platforms to define the best of all time - the current trends and social platforms were not in place in the 60's, 70's,80's and 90's so one needs to assess global impact based on conditions at the time things happened. For example, Charlie Chaplin came at the time of the silent movies and was a product that defined the silent era and the transition to talkies. If we were to utilise current numbers one could argue that Robert Downey Jr or the Rock are bigger stars or the greatest which is ridiculous since no one will likely know who they are are in 60-70 years. Michael Jackson just like Madonna came at a time when they generating a level of global impact that had never been seen before aside from Elvis and the Beatles (for different reasons) which define the platforms that all current female and male singers use today to monetize their careers. Beyonce is wonderful, Taylor is great at what she does but none of the two stand close to the level of MJ and Madonna. Sure maybe they will sell more records, have a lot more youtube views but history looks at things differently. It's like Beethoven and Mozart from 2-3 centuries ago who are the classical names used to assess that time of history. From that same perspective in 200 or 300 years most current stars would be long forgotten. At best there would be 2 or 3 names that people will sort of know of. As it currently stands, I personally think MJ and Madonna have the edge because of the fact that they elevated the game when stars were still seen as mythical. Also let's not forget that just 10 years ago many people were saying that Gaga was in the lead of being the best female ever and we will know that as times moved on reality settled in. In 2-3 years time many artists wiĺl have tours that will generate well over 1 billion dollars (the feat that Taylor has today achieved). In fact, both Coldplay and Harry Style are names that could be added to the list soon - surely none of these two are anywhere close to MJ or legends in any shape or form. They are just simply very successful. Bottom line, it's all temporary and today Taylor is a major star. In 50 years time, when history will reflect on impact and movements realities will settle in.

I think that’s an important note. I’ve seen both live, both terrific, but the Era’s Tour is another level of performance. 3 hours, if not more, rain or shine. Beyoncé is a powerhouse vocalist and dancer, but Taylor’s ability to write songs that cater to millions if not billions of people is a huge talent that should not be disregarded. And yes she does write all her own music. I think the most I’ve seen for co-writers is one or two other people who are usually her friends. She also writes songs for other artists. She’s one of the most talented songwriters of all time and an extremely intelligent businesswoman, sorry not sorry.

@@mikedebruyn yeah, but everyone in the music industry knows that the streaming numbers Spotify boasts about aren’t real because of the way Spotify counts each stream and the fact that people can actually buy streaming numbers from others (someone from Pakistan for example) without any crackdown from Spotify. The only reason Spotify’s streaming numbers started being incorporated into sales figures was because of the music modernization act passed in 2018 but besides the streaming count, Spotify generates huge problems including not paying most artists fairly. For now, it continues to succeed because they send lots of lobbyists to Washington to buy politicians but my guess is that it won’t last for long. We’ll see what happens in the next 5 years or so.

Taylor is the first artist who re records and re released ALL of her already known big hits. No one did this before, she also only did it because of the masters as we know. But if you think about it it's a genius move. Who says a hit song can't be hit again several years later with some new features, and a new music video. As far as we knew every popstar could release all their song twice or even 3 times through their career, it might be a hit every time.
To be fair tho. You listened to a taylor swift concert where Taylor literally did a rundown from ALL of her songs. That's why you feel like, omg how much hits. And yes she was the first to come up with this so kudos to her she deserves all the record breakings and money she gets.
I wouldn't be suprised if other artists started doing the same. And trust me. If Rihanna would make a concert with every single one of her songs for e.g.. It would be much bigger and much more hits than taylor. And if Andrew attended just a regular lets say midnights album tour show. With only that one albums songs - which most tours are about, he wouldn't have been that impressed.
So yea there's no reason to compare them because it's almost not even the same genre. One is a live action movie about your whole damn life, one is a weekly vlog on youtube. That doesn't nessescarly make Taylor be the best at creating hit songs. But she certanly is the most innovative, and has very impressive eye for detail, and making everything and anything a reference.
A lot of artists have done this. Especially r&b artists back in the day. She's not the first.

I can see why he thought that the Eras tour was better than the Reneissance tour. Because one is an album tour with only a few new hits and maybe 1 or 2 old hits. And the other is literally a mashup of all the biggest songs she's ever had. It really isn't compareable. If Rihanna or Beyonce would do their own "Eras" type tour, he would probably not think Taylor is better. Rihanna has at least as many solo hits and double the amount with the features included.
I still think - maybe not the re-records themselves - But this kind of Marvel-ish universe that Taylor built for her eras and different personas is kinda unique tho.

In terms of performance and talent, Beyonce tops Taylor Swift by a lot. Not a lot of people can perform like Beyonce. The fact that she can sing while running, dancing, changes things spontaneously so professionally ( like singing Tia Mowry's old girl group song right when she noticed her in the crowd), has a team of dancers that people know by name at this point, etc.
Not a lot of artists can do that nowadays, especially not Taylor, which is okay. She's not a performer, she's a singer. There's a difference.
Beyonce performs and sings, Taylor is a guitarist and sings. It's like apples to oranges. You can't compare the 2. Beyonce has set herself as a legend anyways, she's been given her flowers, even by Taylor herself.

A few points that weren’t brought up: Taylor has also made political statements that can alienate parts of her base, much like Beyoncé. Taylor’s first albums were country which especially at the time was a very small audience, Beyoncé’s were pop/r&b.

Tay’s hits are repetitive little earworms that get stuck in your head. Nothing close to the masterpieces that are MJs hits. Tay is a master at marketing, social media, crafting a relatable persona, and creating a cult following. Her fans feel like they KNOW her and the stories behind her songs. MJ and Bey are much more private and mysterious. People came purely for the music and performance. And Tay’s songs are wholesome enough that her millennial fans can now bring their kids along for the fandom and concerts.
She’s accomplished a great deal, but her individual hits are embarrassing next to MJs. Nowhere close to the same level. It’s a disservice to Taylor to compare her hits to MJ’s. Man in the mirror alone outshines everything she has written. Her lyrics/storytelling are her greatest feature. The actual quality of the music tho…it’s derivative and basic. MJ created a sound, style, and performance that people had never experienced before.

Re-releasing her old albums ended up being a genius move, garnering attention and victim clout in her scooter Braun feud and then giving the younger generation the experience with her older music that her original fans had. She’s a master at gaming the industry. Her ability to amp up her fame and popularity in an era when her music has honestly gone downhill, is impressive. Not many, if any, have been able to accomplish that.

All through the 80's and beyond. Taylor and Beyonce (hell, even Michael!) can't compete with that. Not to mention Prince was a HELL of a performer.

If that's the case, let them attend a Travis Scott or Playboi Carti show and report back to the congregation. lol It's one thing to perform in front of fans, and another to perform in front of a general audience with just a few fans in attendance. Yes! Taylor has much more beautiful gowns than those two, but their concerts are a thousand times more hyped simply because of their crowds. Late to the conversation, but an europeans take on this discussion: Both Taylor Swift and Beyonce are household names globally, but I haven't heard a Beyonce song since like Crazy in love, she isn't as popular any longer. Taylor Swift though? Still very much popular, and I think that's the difference between the two. Both are amazing artists, but as of today Beyonce isn't charting globally any longer, she is more local as some comments have already mentioned. Olivia Rodrigo and The Weekend are bigger here than her as a comparison.

I think people are very short sighted and use current numbers and existing platforms to define the best of all time - the current trends and social platforms were not in place in the 60's, 70's,80's and 90's so one needs to assess global impact based on conditions at the time things happened. For example, Charlie Chaplin came at the time of the silent movies and was a product that defined the silent era and the transition to talkies. If we were to utilise current numbers one could argue that Robert Downey Jr or the Rock are bigger stars or the greatest which is ridiculous since no one will likely know who they are are in 60-70 years. Michael Jackson just like Madonna came at a time when they generating a level of global impact that had never been seen before aside from Elvis and the Beatles (for different reasons) which define the platforms that all current female and male singers use today to monetize their careers. Beyonce is wonderful, Taylor is great at what she does but none of the two stand close to the level of MJ and Madonna. Sure maybe they will sell more records, have a lot more youtube views but history looks at things differently. It's like Beethoven and Mozart from 2-3 centuries ago who are the classical names used to assess that time of history. From that same perspective in 200 or 300 years most current stars would be long forgotten. At best there would be 2 or 3 names that people will sort of know of. As it currently stands, I personally think MJ and Madonna have the edge because of the fact that they elevated the game when stars were still seen as mythical. Also let's not forget that just 10 years ago many people were saying that Gaga was in the lead of being the best female ever and we will know that as times moved on reality settled in. In 2-3 years time many artists wiĺl have tours that will generate well over 1 billion dollars (the feat that Taylor has today achieved). In fact, both Coldplay and Harry Style are names that could be added to the list soon - surely none of these two are anywhere close to MJ or legends in any shape or form. They are just simply very successful. Bottom line, it's all temporary and today Taylor is a major star. In 50 years time, when history will reflect on impact and movements realities will settle in.
