    Some tips:
Put the salt on only after pouring on the vinegar. You're just washing the salt off doing it the other way round.
Don't bother using white wine vinegar. Just use standard white vinegar (or whatever you have).

Sounds like a logical appliance of science. It's acetic acid that's found in every vinegar that is the cleaning agent. Also the salt will adhere and dissolve in the liquid, instead of falling into the sink.
      Top Tip!

Hi Dave, really appreciate you taking the time to post this video, brilliant. Just a note though, I laid kitchen roll over my pans and soaked that in vinegar, it cringed to the sides, or just press it on, it saved a lot of vinegar running away. Also if you put vinegar into a jar or whatever and mix with salt, wait until the salt dissolves then pour that over the kitchen roll. Leave for awhile it then comes clean easier. Thank you again.

Will try this method next for bottom of frying pan as nothings cleaning the bottom so far no matter how much salt vinegar and scrubbing 😅

Something that may save even more vinegar: Put the vinegar in a spray bottle. Saves having the extra drenched in a towel or roll, and works great!

My grandmother always saves her used lemons for this purpose. Scrubbing your copper with half a lemon dipped in salt with give you the same results and be gentler on the pan!

Cheers, straight to the point. I have an ornate looking copper bottomed Karahi I bought ages ago thats been sitting in the cupboard for a while, which I swapped out for a brutish looking cast iron one, and the copper is not too pretty on the bottom. I think I might just use it to place at the center of the table if I get it looking smart again (which is now what I suspect it was intended for in the first place).

Used this to clean up the copper contact plate of an ooold (15+ years) PC water cooling block. Was a bit sceptic at first but this worked perfectly. Just applied a very light coat of mineral oil afterwards to prevent it from tarnishing again... or at least slow it down

This worked really well to a extent.. I had to substitute white vinger with lemon juice & them malt vinegar.. my stew pot has done quite well still lots of marks but big improvement. My frying pans still mega bad though apart from few areas. The bottom is thick black an most sides. Wish I'd known bout this years ago.. they kinda come back matt copper than metallic shine when knew but still great to see improvement on such expensive pans ❤🎉

Thank you for the demonstration I will try that. My problem is the lining of my old very heavy Villedieu, France copper pan that is clean when I start roasting, but after, when I started to wash the interior, I noticed that the lining is tarnished. My sponge blackened as well during the cleaning, the way a cloth blackens after polishing silver. I am concerned. Thank you, David, from Brooklyn, NY

Just now got done doing this myself. Thanks for the demonstration.
Putting the salt down first gives a layer of little road blocks that can then "absorb" the vinegar. If you put the vinegar down first it will just pour off of the pot bottom. Salt first just like you did is best.

You can also make a paste using flour salt and vinegar which you can smear on which stops the salt and vinegar running off.

I love copper items, it's just so nice how they patina. Even though, after a while the patina is too much.
But what's the fun in a treated copper item that just stays shiny?
I've got this untreated copper pen, and it develops patina so quickly; after a week it's brownish and I kind of like it . If I want it to be shiny again for a while I'll use this method (but without the scrub sponge, as I don't want scratches...)

    Classical ione exchange reaction
    NaCl(s) + CH3COOH(aq) ----> CH3COONa(aq) + HCl(aq)
    Dissociation reaction:
    Na^+ + Cl^- + CH3COO^- + H^+
CH3COONa can also be writen like NaAc which means sodium acetate. :)

I have a little copper coffee pot, and I was using it to boil water, but forgot about it on the stove. When I got back, the water was completely evaporated and the pot had some discolouration.
I used salt and white vinegar to wash as per this video, and the outside looks good again, however the inside looks a bit different ? Sorta discoloured ?
Since it has been cleaned, is there any health downside to using this pot again ?
    Thanks for the video!

Green scrubber scratches the copper. Lots of videos about cleaning copper...but too few about the oxidized tin lining which I thought this video would show. Like commenters suggestion of making a vinegar and salt solution and soak a paper towel in it it. The man who retinned my pot suggested Twinkle and that works very well for copper and brass.
