- Blues legend B.B. King joined jam-band juggernaut Phish on stage (February 24, 2003) at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. About 45 minutes into the concert, King was introduced and handed his trademark guitar, Lucille, and the group tentatively eased into a 23-minute version of Memphis Slim's "Everyday (I Have the Blues)." That was followed by blistering 12-minute workouts of King's own "The Thrill Is Gone" and "Rock Me Baby", which both found Phish lead guitarist Trey Anastasio and King trading licks and solos. The set ended with an embrace between Anastasio and King, who walked off the stage to a standing ovation.
Phish:
Trey Anastasio - Guitar, Vocals
Jon Fishman - Drums
Mike Gordon - Bass
Page McConnell - Keyboards
Special Guest Appearance By B.B. King
Been looking for this on and off for this for 15 years.... greatest musical moment ive ever witnessed.
Has anyone found the video footage for this?
Can't believe less that five hundred like this oh well. I'm a white boy from SF. Went on a pilgrimage to the South. Indianolo birth place of b b. Love the Roots Trey. What an incredible triumpverate. So sad b b is gone. Blues and Rock May be fading away like polar bears and tigers and we'll basically everything humans put their toxic greedy hands on. This gives me hope
Page holds off for so long and just starts to send it
I was at this show with a friend and it was a fine time, RIP BB King.
Not enough praise can be said for the great BB. Phish effortlessly grooves with this blues god in a rare treat.
I was there - the rest of the show was ok, but the BB stuff was killer. The best part of the whole thing was hearing an arena full of people cheer for BB King... the place was rumbling, and BB was just soaking in the love and sending it back.
killer groove
Rip!! Great tour had a blast cincinnati> nassau!
"walked off the stage to a standing ovation", does anyone ever sit down at phish shows though?
Jon Bettinger yes. They have a lot of undancable songs. Or as I like to call them, "sit down and pack a bowl" songs
@@Mooj this. love those perfect slow songs right after a dance fest gives me time to sit and collect my brain matter.
When im too high to stand.
Sometimes it’s nice to chill out with the greatest band on earth
yo
This sounds way better than I remember it live, nice!!!
I was at this show and had chills listening to BB .. seriously loved his presence ... what an amazing surprise when he walked on stage.
yo yo
Phish and like a million other bands wouldn't exist without an influence like B.B. Any "fan" that was lucky enough to be at this show and didn't appreciate the pure awesome is a jag bag.
thanks for uploading this :) i havent been able to find this for years!
Fortunate to have seen bb and just stumbled upon this gem... Ty for posting
rip it beebs
this gives me chills
This is amazing
I cannot believe I’ve been seeing Phish since November of 1997 in Worcester (the Worcester Wipeout) and I only just now in June 2023 in your mom, am hearing this gold.
RIP BB,You always be greatest
RIP BB
if i remember correctly it was a monday night with a nice run of shows taboot. very chill loved every second. many phans at the time did not. worcester and nassua were hot shows too. but this is super special. king bb with the KINGS
matthew celentano I remember that. I went with my brother and his friends. They said they got bored, got beers, hit the pisser, etc. I stayed there and loved every second and knew this was a once in a lifetime thing. Obviously it's not BB in his prime. Noone expected that either. But the fact that I was not only seeing BB, but he was sharing the stage with my favorite band was more than enough.
How can anyone who loves music in general and Phish be bored. Top 5 blues guitarist of all time whose played with literally every fucking incredible musician around that’s important sat in with Phish. Page kills it laying back behind BB this whole jam and that’s the best part they know they’re playing with greatness and everyone in the band is more than humbled and appreciative to sit back and lay down the groove for this fucking master. I would shit my pants if I was able to witness this live, also I love the blues so I see how anyone who doesn’t get down with the blues would be bored. When B.B. says “alright alright” when trey starts going as his seal of approval our idol just got the nod from his idol. Incredible. I love this whole fucking jam. Blues is rock n roll no matter how great Phish is at doing their thing, blues is the heart of rock and roll and always will be. End rant, just disappointed I couldn’t have been there for this. Trey destroys his solo you know BB fucking loved it
I just peed in my pants a little that was so good
RIP BB, grateful to be at this show. My mind was already blown.

I hate to say it, because BB is a living legend and one of the most soulful guitar players ever.. but for this 45 minutes or so, this was the most bored I've ever been at a Phish show. No offense to BB. I'm just not too into the blues. Late 90s/Early 00s Phish seemed to have 5-6 bluesy guitar player sit-ins. BB was easily the best, but it just went on for so long. Halleys,Hood,Heavy Things,Twist segment was pretty awesome. DWD & Wolfmans->Limb in set 1 also. BB is the reason to hear the show tho
Yup, def went on a little long.
You’re a puss
what did? lmao im 11 minutes in and wishing it wouldnt end. its sad when people dont see the value in big things. this is arguably the best phish colab period. nice to hear trey play some blues for just once
