    As a female with 30+ years working in IT and 15+ in IT Project Management, when I came to YT for help with getting my retired life planned/controlled I found it mostly fluffy, frilly, floral, sticker ridden pages so decorated that I couldn't easily see the basic info (events, tasks, trackers etc.). It really put me off! Then I found Ryder and Mark and, Yay the info is not getting buried! Then found Jess and she manages that fine line of lovely decoration while still keeping the data front and centre. Love you pair and so happy when I found this podcast!!

    Planner guy here! 💜 I’ve been following you both for years! You both have had an immense impact of my journey as a content creator! I came into the planner community (social media) back in 2014. When I found mark, I was so inspired I started my brand and social media and now here I am today! ❤ thank you both for not only fostering a space, but making sure we are all seen and I really appreciate you all!
    You are right, mark. Realizing that I needed to find my own personal style was definitely an obstacle that was amazing for me when I started and finding making stuff that works for me!You two really spoke on a lot. I very much so didn’t like I fit it until a few years ago, but now I’ve made friendships that I feel will last a lifetime!

    You’re one of the first men in “the planner community” that I subscribed to. I don’t resonate with a lot of the feminine planner designs as well which is what brought me to bullet journaling. I wanted something functional but still aesthetic. I really like the notebook you created. The productivity niche on UA-cam also crosses over from time to time which is where I feel like I see the most men who plan.

Lots of notebook keepers in my family and those that are more minimalist have careers that leave fewer blocks of time for decorations. The more creative journalers tend to be artist/music/teacher/stay home parents / students etc with more flexibility in their schedules.

    I'm female but my own bullet journals have always been more minimal so I definitely had a period of watching content more from male creators as often it was was more based around functionality rather than being heavily decorated. I'm generalising of course. I still stick with being more minimal for myself but now enjoy a wider range of journalling and planner content even if I don't want to emulate the style.
    You both already mentioned some really great male creators but another one I'd love to give a shout out to is @ruonpaper - he has a really nice aesthetic (and definitely a great example of men's journals/planners not needing to be 'plain') and I really enjoy his content.

I find this is a really interesting topic. It's interesting to me, that perhaps more female people have such a passion for bullet journaling so they feel the inspiration to share it, while it might be more of a practical and personal matter for men...? I also imagine that, partly because you see all the creative images online, there's the stereotypical idea, that this is a female thing, because drawing and so on, while this is so stupid!

    I agree on the "professional" versus it being about gendered appearance. If I'm in an office where it's very reserved, I'd be out of place (and cheap looking even if it cost $60 for a single notebook) with a lace/floral/neon/skulls & bones/torn looking cover notebook. In a more casual, but still professional, office I can rock something like Mark's, or the A&O's last 2 professional releases, and still be comfortable where as the over the top (as 1st mentioned) would still be out of place, because glaringly in your face stationary isn't "professional" regardless of your gender, and tends to leave clientele more focused on that then the topic being discussed in the meeting. If I'm in a creative environment, then it's totally open to the user to rock whatever notebook they want!

    • @AxisOAnarchy
      @AxisOAnarchy 3 місяці тому +1

      You mention how casual a place is but I believe it's more than just that. It's about the industry. My workplace isn't as casual but it's in the higher education field so while professionalism matters, there's still a lot of room and leeway to be yourself in your planner and how you dress. Professionalism means very different things in different fields even if there's a lot of overlap between them. What's cool and okay in education likely isn't in politics or international business where you have to consider the culture of the person you're interacting with as well.

    • @cvvzdesigns
      @cvvzdesigns 3 місяці тому

      @@AxisOAnarchy No snark, even if it may seem, but does working in higher education involve a dedicated office environment and clientele meetings? Not teacher/student? I've only ever had office jobs that involved actual office buildings, which is why I'm asking. :)

    I didn’t want to be this person and I had hoped someone else would mention it in a graceful way but here we are.
    And I know this video is a reflection of society and that in the future we will look at videos like this and cringe but it reflects society now.
    Women.
    Girls.
    Females is an adjective not a noun.
    Language is important here. Research the women’s vs female conversation.
    I couldn’t watch the whole thing but you mentioned dudes, men, guys.
    But for women it was….. females.

    • @PlannerPalsPodcast
      @PlannerPalsPodcast  Місяць тому

      For the sake simplicity in this conversation, with the topic being around men in the planner community, we did use “females” as a stand-in for the members that make up the majority of the planner community. I don’t necessarily think that’s an unfair assessment; females do make up the majority of our community. That’s not to say there aren’t people in our community who identify as women/girls/ladies/femme who aren’t “biological females”. Similarly there are also members of our community who are non-binary, bigendered, agendered, etc.
      It wasn’t our intention to make people feel not included in our conversation, it’s just that as the topic was specifically about males/men/guys/dudes in our community, that’s probably why a more extensive range of terms were used for them versus other members.
      I appreciate you advocating for other terms that can be used for those who identify as women in our community though, and it’s never our intention to make them feel left out. Certainly something we can keep in mind in future!
      I would also like to point out though, female/females technically is also a noun. It doesn’t detract from the sentiment of your point though, I just wanted to clarify that.
      Thanks for leaving us a comment about your thoughts though, and hopefully even if this episode wasn’t for you, you can still get value from the podcast overall 😊 - Jess

    30% of the subscribers on my channel are male! I’m not sure why, but it may be because I review a lot of journals?
    Oh and Mark I love the new Marked journals!

      Cool to have the percentage that high! 💪 Content types will certainly play a role in that, yeah 😊

    Danke für euer Video 💐.
    Herzlichen Glückwünsch zur Zusammenarbeit mit Archer and Olive. Wie schon gesagt, Schade dass es A&O nicht in Europa gibt 😞.
    Neben Mark kenne ich nur noch Ryder Carroll.
    Ich werde mal die Liste durchgucken, die in der Videobeschreibung steht.
    Thank you for your video 💐.
    Congratulations on the collaboration with Archer and Olive. As I said, it is a pity that there is no A&O shop in Europe 😞.
    Aside from Mark, the only other person I know is Ryder Carroll.
    I'll take a look at the list in the video description.
    Liebe Grüße von Melly aus Deutschland ✨

      Sie haben ihr Stockis-Programm an einigen Standorten in Europa tatsächlich wieder aufgenommen. Ich würde auf der Website nach der neuen Liste suchen, da ich weiß, dass es in Europa immer leichter erhältlich ist.

    Obviously I adore Mark! But also my bujo bestie Jesse at lines.and.lettering who I'm so glad got a shout out! As I was watching this, I took a little mental inventory of the gender breakdown of who I'm following, and you know what is fascinating? For journaling, I'd say it's like 80% female, but for the fountain pen space I'd say it's like 80% male 🤯 I wonder why that is?
