The DM at this point I think had given up on us being a normal party, what with the elf rouge insulting our patron at every step, and our knack for managing to trivialize the most complicated of tasks. Not sure if someone else has mentioned it but Kalashtar are from Eberron, the same setting that introduced Shifters, Changelings, and Warforged. The reason that they are not nearly as widely used as the others is that they were designed to be the psychic race (back when the setting was made for 3.5E), and they mostly lived on a different continent in case you wanted to completely ignore psionics in your campaign. A lot of the other unusual races are from the MtG supplements, though some are just obscure DnD races that got stat updates for 5e (e.g. Firbolg).
Who else here had to look up the 1812 Overture then like 4 notes into went "ahh, THAT song". Also if you look really closely the big guy actually DOES say "Oi nani" before the goblin closeup.
Artificers have gotten a fourth subclass called the Armorer.....it can basically make you D&D Iron Man. Also one thing JoCat did not point out is that if your DM allows them, Artificer starts with proficiency with Firearms.....and is the only class that does.
The redo of the Barbarian was actually done before Tasha's Cauldron, so there was no Wild Magic Barbarian at the time. And on the subject of Tasha's, they did in fact give us a new Artificer subclass in that book, called the Armorer, which I will summarise here: Armorer, which lets you turn any suit of armour you come across, regardless of Strength, into your very own custom built Iron Man suit. It can be used as a Spellcasting Focus, can't be taken off unless you want it to and can instantly be put on and taken off as an action (which is bloody fantastic since Full Plate usually takes 10 minutes to sort out). Additionally, it gains special features based on what model you use (with extra features at higher level), and the models can be switched around when necessary. For Guardian, you have a temp HP generator and your gauntlets deal Thunder damage. For Infiltrator, you get extra movement, a small Lightning beam from your palm or chest (very huge Iron Man vibes here) and the ability to give yourself Advantage on Stealth rolls (or outright cancelling the Disadvantage of heavier armour). 9th level is...very confusing though, and there's been no clear ruling about it. What 9th level is meant to do is that it treats your armour as 4 separate parts for your Infusions, and lets you infuse an extra two items more than usual (as long as they're parts of your armour). The issue here is how this rule works if your Arcane Armour is already magical (like for example an Adamantine Full Plate).
Still to this day one of my favorite characters I ever played was Rand Omnes, the Goblin Wild Magic Sorcerer who was a Booyahg Booyahg Booyahg, meaning that she rolled on the wild magic table every time she cast any spell including cantrips. She only stayed alive for 5 sessions but damn were the most enjoyable 5 sessions I've ever played.
As somebody who's doing an Artificer that's flavored to be an Imperial Guardsman, magic is HERESY! EDIT: Watch Unexpectables, Jocat hides references in these videos.
Yes, all the races in the Races video are official races in the various published books. And no, he won't redo the video because Tasha's made all races able to remove their racial template for a modified variant Human template. This video shows perfectly well what each of their racial templates are if you don't replace it with the modified variant Human template.
Giving you a heads up due to a time limit. JoCat just put up a video that is about Bards4bards, and in it, he has it so a place is selling a wizard goblin plushies. I know you've mostly been watching his stuff in the order of release, and multiple a week, but you may want to jump ahead to this one if you want to try and get said plush.

One of my favorite things about kobold’s is their “cower, beg, plea” feature. It’s a great support ability and one of the only feature’s whose name sounds uncool.
Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, which came out in November 2020, added a new subclass for Artificer called the Armourer, Artificer originally came out in Eberron: Rising from the Last War in November 2019
The greatest mystery of Texas Instruments: Where were they were sourcing that same antique model LCD screen they used for at least three decades in their overpriced calculators?
playing a goblin ranger here. It's so fun to be able to hide and shoot every turn without multiclassing, and as a goblin I can just use the argument of "I'm a goblin" if I want to do something really stupid like put on a necklace I found in a cult temple before any of the "smart and carful" partymembers even got a chance to look at it. Also with a drake sidekick is really fun.
As a person who played a kalashtar monk, I can say that while the race is a bit clunky in certain areas (especially the way I had to work it) it's fun to basically say no when the dm tries to knock you out with sleep spells.
Glad you are using AJ Picket as a reference for the more complex lore of D&D, especially since he got hired to help create something for an upcoming D&D video game!
The Barbarian bit reminded me of one of the campaigns which we had a dwarf barbarian which was mute and refused to wear clothing so would run around everywhere in absolutely nothing. (And when bored would helicopter...)
Now that you’re getting close to the end of this series I’d recommend his crap guides to monster hunter. They were the originals and the inspiration for this series!
i remember my first goblin encounter, lore had my kobold druid stripped of equipment, but i still had a snake familiar and the ability to enhance that poison bite... the DM informed me later that i overkilled the goblin so hard his entire ancestral line got poisoning symptoms... i think my snake familiar may have been a bit OP... didn't stop me from using fire belly on both of us though.
The goblin plushes are out of production now. The last set produced was the glow in the dark version. Jocat complained that the group that makes them won't do repeat orders so... yeah. I have one.
8:40 you are talking about the Armorer, yea it lets you turn armor into a suit that works like Iron Man, and with a short rest you can convert it between either Guardian or Infiltrator. Guardian gives you thunder punches (which you can use INT for) that gives enemies disadvantage when attacking anything but you until your next turn, and you have basically an energy shield that you can activate as a bonus action which gives you temporary HP equal to how many levels in artificer you have. Infiltrator gets a freaking iron man style ranged attack that deals 1d6 lightning damage (and once a turn you can deal an extra 1d6 on a hit), plus 5 extra movement and advantage on stealth (which cancels out any disadvantage from your armor). Its a lotta fun, I am actually playing one in a futuristic dystopian setting with Snakes n Saloons stuff added in, I actually out damage the whole party at the moment (DM ruled that the Repeating Shot infusion will work on firearms so now I got a magic broomstick that does 2d12+6 damage a shot at fuckin level 3, although I have yet to roll well with damage and the DM is talking about having me swap to the weaker shotgun for balance, so I might actually fuckin dual wield magic boomsticks while the rest of the party has guns that they have to reload).
I love my Artificer. Assembler, level 7 Artificer Warforged. 20AC, magical greataxe that gets a plus four off my Int, and as a background in making siege weaponry, convinced my DM to start with a musket. Hey goblins, guess who brought a gun to a bow fight? Also, my Defender is called MARC, so in the event of it's death (and it's been almost five levels, so it's due), the next one will be MARC 2. Plus he gets to carry around a gunpowder barrel and make fragmentation grenades with copper pieces. That's right, 50 copper pieces and a pound of gun powder, and you too can open the door to a problem, chuck in a grenade and then close it to make the problem have it's own problem. :P
Now there's only the Alignment, Character Sheet and DMing episodes left, I think. These past few were really funny while doing basic class descriptions, but these three are actually genuinely helpful on top of being extremelly funny.
23:09 so about that whole “almost getting one shot by a goblin on my first ever D&D run” thing........yeah I kinda maybe had that happen to me......the goblin was supposed to roll a 12 and it rolled like a 16 or 18 and hit me for enough damage to say “hah you’re wearing armor? Didn’t even notice it” and the lil shit knocked me out in one hit
My latest character is a Sorcerer who uses Wild Magic because their birth wasn't meant to happen at all and even the Gods question his existence. Their like a glitch in the system.
The New Bar is my favorite, and I totally have a DnD character that is a 14 year old girl, raised by squirrels that fires squirrels that each one is wild magic, so I have to roll Diplomacy to choose the spell, out of a Bazooka that doubles as a spear and a bassoon. Her alignment is Chaotic Pretty and she rages more than I care to admit...
in the first session i was ever in, i got one-shotted by a teammate (i got possessed, and attacked him. i dealt like 4 damage. he retaliated for over my max HP in damage. the DM had it not outright kill me). i've done some stupid (and probably suicidal) things as a barbarian. including, but not limited to, triggering 29 attacks of opportunity in one move. In my defense, it was a multiclass with Phoenix Sorcerer where (because every character HAD to have magic, and two classes, i could cast my spells during rage) i dealt about 60 damage to each enemy i ran through, and sustained over 800 damage before going down. a party member had cast haste on me, and i was already considering the stupid before that. the DM leaned into it, and it is a glorious moment we all look back on.
Tasha's just came out not that long ago and the video was made before Tasha's cauldron of everything (where the wild magic barbarian is at) came out. Plus who knows if they'll do more books with new variants.
Actually, it's a new subclass that was added in tasha's, not a change to battle smith. While battle smiths are focused on their weapons and robot, the new armorer focuses on being either master chief or ironman.
As to Kobolds vs Goblins (purely for flavour), I'd say both are pretty are pretty equal and cool. One has the fact that they are literally the children of dragons, innately sorcerous, they are great at mechanics and reincarnate as dragons. One has their awful celestial condition (compelling, but awful) and the fact that they can evolve, _in real time,_ in almost limitless ways; a goblin can hang out by the seas for a few years and spontaneously grown gills, or a cuttlefish nitro-sac; that is insane.
In an adventur where we was lvl 1 One of my party member tried to shot a crossbowbolt around the barbarian but rolled a nat 1. The dm had him roll to see if he hit the barbarian, nat 20. Dm said dobbelt damage didn't counded, and the barbarían was a golith so he could half it.
For said quality art just look up Nott the Brave fanart lol For those who don't know that's Sam Riegel's character from the 2nd campaign of Critical Role; not 100% sure on the first few, but that last art piece was DEFINITELY Nott so that'd be a good point if you're *ahem* "curious." Your Welcome. 😂
I'm starting to wonder if he hasn't noted that he keeps going back to the bard as "Joecrap" is one, and Simic hybrid, also... he made the goblin plushie, and the wiggler hat... he also made a glowy under dark goblin. Several of his things reference MHW which is where the sword and shield stuff comes from, there are a lot of weapon jokes throughout the series

Can confirm, did not get a notification, just happened to see this in my recommended videos despite being subscribed for at least a month now
"Kobolds are superior." got a like just for that :D
Kobolds are Smol and precious, and I will protecc them till the days I die
Artificers have gotten a fourth subclass called the Armorer.....it can basically make you D&D Iron Man. Also one thing JoCat did not point out is that if your DM allows them, Artificer starts with proficiency with Firearms.....and is the only class that does.
0:23 Brave words for someone within booyag distance.
The redo of the Barbarian was actually done before Tasha's Cauldron, so there was no Wild Magic Barbarian at the time. And on the subject of Tasha's, they did in fact give us a new Artificer subclass in that book, called the Armorer, which I will summarise here:
Armorer, which lets you turn any suit of armour you come across, regardless of Strength, into your very own custom built Iron Man suit.
He kept the headbanging in the end of the Barbarian video. It was truly awesome.
Airiergames: "You guys know me, I'm just gonna jump right in."
Also Airiergames: Spends the next minute rambling and not jumping right in
Still to this day one of my favorite characters I ever played was Rand Omnes, the Goblin Wild Magic Sorcerer who was a Booyahg Booyahg Booyahg, meaning that she rolled on the wild magic table every time she cast any spell including cantrips.
Artificers are magic item/artifact makers though
Not entirely related to the video, but what is your favourite D&D race?
Comment readers, you can also answer.
Mine is Tabaxi.
Haven't played enough yet to have a favorite, but I'm enjoying the vanilla half elf so far.
17:11 Every time I watch an animated episode of Fools Gold campaign.
😯
Thanks for the heads up.
I am reminded of a D&D story of an All Barbarian Party.
The party was amusingly and amazingly derailed.
I just am so entertained by the rambling and muttering
WAIT WAIT N U X? I WANT THAT
I W A N ' T T H A T T O
The JoCat Goblin Plushies were commercially available soon after this video came out, but unsure if they are still available
the mentioning of "takeing notes" reminded me of the 2019 Pax Unplugged "Animating D&D on UA-cam" Panel with Puffin Forest, JoCat and Dingo Doodle ... might be a bit long for a reaction but there are some fun moments in there
One of my favorite things about kobold’s is their “cower, beg, plea” feature. It’s a great support ability and one of the only feature’s whose name sounds uncool.
When he gets to DM, oh boy
GREAT
Let's head to Crap Guide to Monster Hunter next :^
There'S still more though
Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, which came out in November 2020, added a new subclass for Artificer called the Armourer, Artificer originally came out in Eberron: Rising from the Last War in November 2019
BIG NEWS: Jocat actually started a new Makeship run for the Crap Guide Goblin plush. This time he's a wizard goblin.
15:11 "can you actually do a centaur?" sure man, roll sedution
😶🤔😨🤣
Centaurs are available in the Campaign Setting book Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica, which came out in November 2018
i remember my first goblin encounter, lore had my kobold druid stripped of equipment, but i still had a snake familiar and the ability to enhance that poison bite... the DM informed me later that i overkilled the goblin so hard his entire ancestral line got poisoning symptoms... i think my snake familiar may have been a bit OP... didn't stop me from using fire belly on both of us though.
The goblin plushes are out of production now. The last set produced was the glow in the dark version. Jocat complained that the group that makes them won't do repeat orders so... yeah. I have one.
I feel like you're the kinda guy to actually try the internet dnd memes in your actual games
[Completely Innocent Whistling]
@@Airier lol. My first campaign, everyone tried to seduce a roper that we couldn't kill
... did it work?
@@Airier nope. We nearly tpk'd and had to have an NPC bail us out
8:40 you are talking about the Armorer, yea it lets you turn armor into a suit that works like Iron Man, and with a short rest you can convert it between either Guardian or Infiltrator.
Jo cat is a literal bard. He plays multiple instruments in real life, can sing, talented artist, voice actor ect.
Sadly Wild Magic Barbarian officially came out recently in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, and JoCat's Crap Guide only uses Official Content
in the first session i was ever in, i got one-shotted by a teammate (i got possessed, and attacked him. i dealt like 4 damage. he retaliated for over my max HP in damage. the DM had it not outright kill me).
i've done some stupid (and probably suicidal) things as a barbarian. including, but not limited to, triggering 29 attacks of opportunity in one move. In my defense, it was a multiclass with Phoenix Sorcerer where (because every character HAD to have magic, and two classes, i could cast my spells during rage) i dealt about 60 damage to each enemy i ran through, and sustained over 800 damage before going down. a party member had cast haste on me, and i was already considering the stupid before that. the DM leaned into it, and it is a glorious moment we all look back on.
he did not, in fact, cut that bit out for his own safety
OMG, this is my first time coming back to the artificer video since I started watching the Unexpectables and... 6:22 IT'S LOG!
As someone who played Tortle, it's fun and quite accurate. I mean a max AC of 25 without any armor due to being a high dex Monk so yeah.
Tasha's just came out not that long ago and the video was made before Tasha's cauldron of everything (where the wild magic barbarian is at) came out. Plus who knows if they'll do more books with new variants.
Airier wants to know where to find more of that goblin art...
Well there is that one place...
😎
What does Jocat fail at? I would say wisdom and dexterity are his dump stats.
Actually, it's a new subclass that was added in tasha's, not a change to battle smith. While battle smiths are focused on their weapons and robot, the new armorer focuses on being either master chief or ironman.
I feel if joCat ever made little figures of his D&D character that he made for this series I would buy every single one.
26:00 I think that was all fanart of Nott the Brave, one of the Critical Role PCs.
In an adventur where we was lvl 1
One of my party member tried to shot a crossbowbolt around the barbarian but rolled a nat 1. The dm had him roll to see if he hit the barbarian, nat 20. Dm said dobbelt damage didn't counded, and the barbarían was a golith so he could half it.
For said quality art just look up Nott the Brave fanart lol
For those who don't know that's Sam Riegel's character from the 2nd campaign of Critical Role; not 100% sure on the first few, but that last art piece was DEFINITELY Nott so that'd be a good point if you're *ahem* "curious."
Your Welcome. 😂
2:48 i have fond memories of my texas instrument, playing games on it that i got from a classmate's instead of paying attention
Kalashtar came out in the Ebberon book, and the Barbarian revamp was made before Tasha’s came out.
YASSSS!!! Just a couple more vids until Crap Guide to Dungeon Master, this is going to be beautiful!!!
Hey Airier, have you seen JoCat's Tavern Crawl animation? If not, you definitely should, it's awesome.
This was before the Theros book. Missing satyrs and Leonin. XD
A barbarian with magic...what a conundrum. I might be able to Find a Path to a different dimension with Bloodragers...
