No, seriously, I didn't know how else to title this.
Closed captions are coming tonight. They will be published by tomorrow.
I just had to share this. It bothered me. I know I'm sort of laughing in the video but actually having to listen to these guys for a considerable amount of time was kind of disturbing.

I'm shocked at all of the negative comments. You were very polite to the man. It's not like you challenged him and had a massive argument in front of everyone. Talking loudly about politics in a public place is uncomfortable for EVERYONE no matter what you believe in. I'm glad you stood up to them.

I find the anti-Polish hate in the UK to be very strange, too. Generally speaking, they are very hard workers & do not commit much crime, but...for some reason UK citizens hate them? Why?...

I think it's partly to do with tabloid newspapers. They always want to paint foreigners as the reason for the problems in the UK and unfortunately lots of people are taken in by this and believe them. xxx

@MisterMcCurry I don't think we should aspire to regress back to our roots...when that happens, you get shit like ISIS. Why do people want war? We should all work together.

You want to import ISIS. Europe was built by Europeans. Europe is great because of Europeans. Not third world immigrants. We don't need them and we shall regress by taking them in.

Even though historically people in Poland fought along side the RAF and they make some of the best video games and board games in the world and I've had good experiences of Polish people doing work around my house. If you cannot compete in the jobs market go do something else and forget protectionism.

I know I'd be terrified to say anything, because I'd expect racist backlash against myself and super sensitive me would have a hell of a time holding up under that. I tend to get brave if they're specifically attacking another person ,then I go into rage/defensive mode. Good on you for saying something, especially when no one else would! I used to live in Bath when attending university there for my bachelor's degree, and one time my parents were visiting me (hadn't seen them since the previous summer then and this was in the early spring of 2014) we went out to this local pub that I really liked and recommended, and according to my wife (then girlfriend), who's British, that people in the booth behind ours were looking at us in a hostile manner since my parents don't speak English all that well, so I had to translate stuff for them and to start conversations in my native language, which is Finnish.
Just wondering how bad it really is when apparently you get angry glares from speaking a foreign language in a pub in Bath, in spite of the fact that, as Finns, we're very Caucasian. I mean Finland's a part of Scandinavia; that's as Caucasian as you can possibly get. Hell, I'm a natural blonde.

Good for you, for standing up and intervening when it became too much. Really, really good for you. This kind of ranting in a public place is something that I absolutely hate because not only is it disruptive to those within earshot, it's also incredibly arrogant to believe that your beliefs and opinions are so important that everyone around you needs to hear them, whether they agree or not. I've had some experiences like this personally (the 'brown' comment especially) and I wish more people would step in (like you did!). Thanks for sharing.

  • @karlcardona8381

I get what you are saying. But it really depends on the atmosphere in the pub, in my view. If the pub has a loud atmosphere, and other people are talking loud, that is something else. I would not interrupt in that case, but that's me. But if someone is just being really loud and obnoxious in a relatively quiet pub atmosphere, then I can see an argument for action.

      You tried it though!

    • @jolien_v
      @jolien_v 7 років тому +1

I would like to apologize then. I saw you reacting to other people as well and falsely deduced from this that you were randomly commenting in this comment section to get a rise out of people. I see now that this is not the case. When I called those people in that bar bigots, I meant that they don't see the whole picture of who these people are and dismiss them immediately based on their skin colour or ethnicity (and yes, this is also a valid use of the word bigot). I partly agree that the left wing has become detached. They need to reinvent themselves. I do not agree however that racism is 'just an opinion' everyone holds. Not all the people voted for Trump, neither did most young people vote for Brexit. Not everyone wants a government that only cares about their own natives. I certainly don't. Racists are allowed to have their opinions, but it is justified for other to step in then when they are hurting other people in public (like talking very loudly in a bar).
When did extreme nationalism ever work? Yes, the world tends to work in cycles indeed but I don't see the way this is going will benefit anyone in the end. Not when you look at the history books. People like Trump are using fearmongering to make people believe that immigrants are all cut from the same cloth, but it is far from the truth. Enough people know this and oppose his views, not some small minority like you nationalists like to claim.
It's a bit rich for a country practically built on the backs of immigrants (like the USA, like the UK) to now turn their immigrants away. It didn't seem to bother the 'natives' when they could control others and use their labour and riches. I would also like to add that 'natives' is not a word I would use for Americans who came to the continent as immigrants themselves.

    • @ohmsweetohm7214
      @ohmsweetohm7214 7 років тому

The 'natives' who stood on the backs of the immigrants, and the 'natives' who live today, some of whom complain about said immigrants are not the same people, due to temporal displacement. Also, as far as the UK is concerned, I would question the degree to which one can state that it was built directly on the backs of immigrants, when one considers the patterns of immigration to the UK up until the late 19th century, and the lack of African slaves in the British Isles (around 10-15,000 out of a population of 15 million in 1772, when slavery was officially outlawed in the British Isles), probably partially due to the quantity of indigenous labour available in the British Isles.

As far as I'm concerned saying horrible things about people, including groups of people - when you know they can hear you and you want them to hear you. Because you want them to feel bad - because that gives you a feeling of power. It's abusive. In some way saying things about a person that are meant to be hurtful near them with the intent they hear - but not directly to them - is worse. It's very dehumanizing and degrading.

Well done! I wish you had told them that you were half Indian yourself. It might have educated them to see you framed in that context.
Were they actually racist however or were they just concerned about the current mass immigration, and discussing it in an obnoxious way? They might have welcomed a rebuttal. Don't forget that pubs have always been places to discuss and debate, and some people go there solely for that reason.
So, from the information you provided, I'm not sure if there is a genuine right or wrong here. I'm tickeld to think that you got up to 'have a go' but I'm not entirely surprised!

In that case, I'm with you. I'm totally against judging people because they belong to a particular race or demographic. This is why I have problems with intersectional you know what. There are statistical differences between groups but it's unfair to pre-judge an individual because of them.
So, you're now drinking pints in the local boozer and stirring trouble. I think this must be the default position for a degree student. It was for me! xxx

Non whites simply don't belong in any White European nation. They natives have had enough and are perfectly entitled to want these people out. It's their homeland.
When mass repatriations occur throughout Europe, you can go back with them. Enjoy Turkey, the Middle East, Africa or the Indian subcontinent. Native Europeans have had enough. We are taking back our homelands.

And I got so upset just thinking in my head "You're eating in a restaurant that could possibly close because the man you voted for will deem them illegal." I just want to say that I've just discovered your channel and I do agree with your video.
I don't get the whole anti-immigrant crusade that people both in Britain and here in America have. I am very nearly 100 percent White with a pretty big mix of European ancestry(including British). But as far as natives of America go, the only people that would really qualify as such under some people's definitions are the Native Americans(Indians). Problem is, that many of us are several generations removed immigrants. I have heard that there are some here that would love to expel such people(including someone like me) and send them back to Europe. We really don't have a "home" to go to.
Besides which, would any of you immigrant hating British that might be reading this even welcome back a several generation removed British subject? Even considering my surname is British? Hmm...although I guess it might be a problem that I have more Irish and Italian blood...oh dear I'm screwed

A lot of the hate towards immigrants is towards economic migrants, meaning people who come here to the UK just to earn money. These are usually people with low skills, little understanding of the english language and little desire to fit in. But there are also migrants who are fluent in english and who are highly educated and wish to fit in among others in the UK. I personally think both types of migrants should be welcomed here. However, toughening the borders will only keep out the highly educated migrants as they are less likely to break the law. The economic migrants would then just come here illegally, there is nothing you can do to stop them. So this whole talk about how we need to toughen our borders is bullshit as it wouldn't do anything at all to keep out the kind of migrants most conservatives are most hateful towards.

The guy was pointing out an ethnic change in the area, from what was then compared to now ... don't know how that is racist, even if this person was doing it loudly and obnoxiously. I didn't know being loud and obnoxious was and is a Racist thing now. Maybe it's one of those I have to be there moments, to get your point, otherwise just taking your word as is, you kind of minimize and trivialize actual people that faced racism. I lived and attended highschool years back in the UK, in a town of Southport where there's no chinese folks, so yeah, I know racism, the daily racial slurs and the alienation, and me not being able to fight back (pummel these kids with my fists) because my family feared repercussions.

Who are you to dictate where a person can and cannot go? Are you really that stuck up your own arse that you think you have control over others? Because you don't. Why does it even affect you? To judge someone by the colour of their skin or the religion they belong to is so ridiculous that I cannot even comprehend it; it must be so difficult for you to survive in your own mind. I'm sure you once did science in school, and I'm sure that you once learnt that underneath skin is a skeleton. A skeleton, blood, organs, muscles...that's literally all we are, we are all the same. The fact that you cannot understand that astonishing.

Us natives are perfectly entitled to oppose foreign invaders settling in our homeland.

'Us natives' don't you mean 'we natives'? maybe you should have checked your command of English first 😂 Oh and FYI there is no such thing as a native in the UK. We all come from numerous ancestry.

MisterMcCurry your argument fell flat on its face when you called people of color "shitskinned." There is a worrying amount of Islamic apologists in today's society, and there is a worrying amount of Islam-related violence in Europe. But the color of someone's skin does not make someone a bad person. It is the ideology they follow that determines their morals and values. You had a good argument, but allowed yourself to fall prey to a very immature and hateful way of thinking.

Sorry Claudia, you sound like a bully in this situation.

Stanislav M lmao how? How is politely asking to quiet down bullying? Especially when the topics discussed are not family-tone?

she didn't even tell them to stop talking, literally just "please be a bit quieter". if a bunch of women were having a really loud conversation about feminism you'd probably want them to be quiet so you could enjoy your meal, same with kids being loud or someone having a loud phone call. i don't see how it's rude at all to politely ask someone to quieten down.

Well, somehow I do not think that the issue was that they were being too loud, but that they were so "horrible and racist." I am from eastern Europe and believe me, the thing that offends us the most is someone being shut up by the pressure of society. We had just about enough of that...

Stanislav M I mean, I know Britain's different from America, but it wasn't like Claudia was sicing police on those men to get them arrested for their opinions. It's a public space, yes, you have the freedom to be as much of a loud racist as you want, BUT, that doesn't stop the people around you from not appreciating that. Actions have consequences, and the actions of this man, gawking at photos of a street close by to where Claudia lives, making racist statements, would obviously put anybody in the same situation at unease.
The context is there. The reasoning is moral and understandable. I frankly don't see how you have an issue with a woman politely telling a group of loud, racist men, to quiet down. The closest thing to interpret as bullying might be when Claudia clapped back on the guy after he RUDELY talked to her like a child, and tried to shoo her away like a fly, but literally, it was reactionary AND still really polite???? But okay, sure, bullying loud, middle-aged, racist men. Right.....

ok, I just think that what Claudia did, did not need to be done. These guys perhaps met after a lifetime and now they were having a bit of a nostalgic moment. IDK. maybe it is a cultural difference, but in this case, I do not think that what Claudia did was right...
