It's been a slippery slope lately for everyone nowadays but they shouldn't pass any laws going against our constitutional rights! We homeschooled our boys youngest one wanted to see what a school setting was like so he went as a guest and never wanted to go to school again, so that says alot and he loves people but I suppose he just didn't care for it. My wife had a daycare so our kids were exposed to others plus made friends with the kids until they seen I had some junk cars in my property so they discontinued her license, but first they said we had to rope off a play area so kids knew the boundaries we did that then they went back to my junk cars again to put her out of her business.

Florida’s trying to prevent from the kids having phones at school during the day but don’t have police officers on campus. Sad any of it’s true.
Michigan homeschool mom here! We are fighting this every way we can. But it makes no sense to say they "don't know who is homeschooling". They know. They track everything and everyone, so if they aren't attending private or government school, then they are obviously homeschooling. They are trying to use 1, error ridden report about"abuse" in a foster care situation (Foster care kids are already on a list with the government by the way, apparently it didn't help). Pray that politicians will have a change of heart, and that we can win a seat in the house for the special election in April. Also, that other homeschool parents would take up the torch and help fight this!
Do you have an HSLDA office in Michigan? (Home School Legal Defense Association). They have helped us against infringements on our rights in Florida, and every state should have a chapter that is well versed in your state homeschool laws.
When will people realise that politicians are against the public, the system is rigged to keep the public down whilst they make money and do what they want. Stop relying on government, stop obeying, stop funding them.

My heart goes out to all of the homeschooling parents today. I feel blessed that my kids are grown and that I was able to freely homeschool them without any interference from State, Local or federal government.

I know first hand how extremely difficult it is to 'fight' School boards...check out both Fairfax and Loudoun counties (in Virginia) -- look at the actual harm to students (victims) and the suffering taking place.
Without having pro-bono attorneys and people who are helping from outside of those counties to do the actual fighting, lotsa luck. Meanwhile, the school kids are being exposed to all sorts of horrible situations. No child should suffer r*pe because of commie tactics to take-over a school system. My friend’s 13 year old as abused by a teacher. Other students were too. The school hired lawyers and got it thrown out. They then promoted him to THE DEAN OF STUDENTS with his own private office. 20 years later he’s still there!
I think More harm is done in public schools than in those that home school.

I don’t understand why Queensland makes it complicated to homeschool. Even thirty years ago it was more challenging than NSW. Driving 36 kms on a dirt road to a bus stop, then a 45min bus ride twice a day is asking a lot of a 5-12 year old. There are so many travelling further.

Do you really want your homeschooled kids education equal to the public schools? I homeschooled both our boys the whole way through. They started their freshman year of college as sophomores and graduated with honors. Both are wonderful Christian and hard working young men.

Michigan here. I was a homeschool mom. I was also a member of the homeschool legal defense association. I was told by someone from the church that it was a must have to protect homeschooling parent's. It was fairly cheap. This was back in the early 2000's it wasnt over $200 (that i remeber) a year for protection and peace of mind is cheap. But check them out because things may have changed with them? I have seen a few comments here telling people to get it if they're going to homeschool. 🙏 🎉

They protect the right to homeschool. A church member told me it was a must have if you're going to homeschool. God bless and good luck. Its a very rewarding job. A judge thankfully struck down the govts cancelling of boards as it was based on the boards being religious which is a protected right here. Thank God they were voted out promptly and the conservative party (republicans) came in and made even more great avenues for homeschoolers to explore as they say its your right to bring your child the way you see fit in your religion. I'm so glad I live in Alberta, one of the few common sense provinces remaining.
I thank God that most of my grandchildren are homeschooling and the other grandchild is at least in a private school even if it isn't christian. The education that the homeschoolec kiddos in our family is getting is very rich, extremely well rounded and far superior to public education. It amazes me. The kids are far beyond their public school aged peers but also have a wonderful work ethic and practical knowledge and experience that is completely absent in the public school relm.

Thankfully, it sounds like both of the people in question are against registering home schools and against furthering this motion. The woman said that they need to make sure that Michigan Schools' safety programs are improved before they can claim that homeschools are any less safe. She also said that there are not enough resources to even follow this law through, so she is against it.
It is my hope that this fails and I hope that everyone gets INVOLVED in your local school board and local government. This is where everything starts. LOCALLY
Them talking about no warrant searches sounds like a dictatorship. Maybe they need to search public schools like that. For I found out the local school I pay taxes to fund was covering up a teacher that was doing meth in the classroom and it was never reported in the local papers or school meetings that the tax payer can attend and when concerned parents confronted the board members in a meeting about the issue the parents where removed from the building. They have forgotten the tax payers parents are who pay their salaries and benefits.. this was in WI

I personally fell through the cracks in our so called school system. I may have graduated within their system. My knowledge I now have came from my own desire to learn and living life.
My own children faced the same issues. I gave them a choice and they chose to leave the state regulated system. I am proud to state they are all very productive young adults with comparable careers with income comparable to college educated individuals. My children give back to our communities with time and donations where it REALLY matters.
I firmly believe our school system sets up our future generations to fail.
IN SCHOOL WE ARE TAUGHT TO STUDY AND THEN TAKE A TEST TO PROVE OUR KNOWLEDGE.
IN REAL LIFE WE ARE GIVEN THE TEST, THEN THE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING COMES AFTER THE EXPERIENCE.
THIS CAUSES INDIVIDUALS TO STRUGGLE WITH MULTIPLE ISSUES WITHIN THEIR OWN MENTAL UNDERSTANDING.

Back in the 60's I had a problem with a teacher and went to the counselors office of which was a waste of time. Nothing was done about it. When teachers in public schools show no interest in helping a student learn there is a problem. Since then I was lucky to have teachers that showed interest but it wasn't at that school.
my neighbors had their children taken, losing custodial and parental rights for homeschooling. when kids were tested, they scored well above 2-grade levels. I think it was because they used a Christian curriculum. parents were preppers and basically self-sufficient. I guess everyone outside the cookie-cutter gets thrown under the bus.
They don't want our kids to think or be able to survive. They want dumb kids that follow like good little sheep. Anyone who can think critically are a threat.

Sounds like the problem is more with regulating foster care more than regular homeschooling. They need to do more visits for foster care and maybe interviews with the foster parents and the children to make sure the care is to standards.
There are safety issues in school as well for autistic kids as well as Hemophilia kids. My son is getting hurt in school and not at home. It isn't good.

Wow I remember a similar scenario in Montana but was in the legislature where a bill was proposed to classify homeschooling as child abuse. Fortunately Montanans stepped up and testified to thwart this bill and has not been reintroduced since. Does that mean it won’t happen again? No bit now there are so many more people homeschooling that I don’t think they have another chance.

Not in Michigan. We do not have to do any testing. As it should be. They need to leave us alone and focus on the failing education system and foster care system.
That is not correct for many states. In Indiana you are only required to keep record of attendance. Parents in Indiana grant diplomas without test being required. Home School Legal Defense has a list of requirements by state.
The testing is helpful for parents and students to have the knowledge as to stages of development levels being acquired so that your child will not fall behind fundamentals to receive a diploma reading writing & arithmetic.
Most home schooled students acquire their high school diplomas years in advance of public schools taught students far exceeding development because of individual & or siblings sharing together lessons. Without outside interference children can have a longer family bonding and be socialized through family & friends and outside activity’s like hiking biking gardening building repairing agriculture and animal husbandry all highly fundamental as elective cuticular even so as a lemon aid stand or volunteer helpful assistance. The list gos on parents can be a huge part in growing a well rounded well adjusted social child to young adult

I am in MiCHIGAN. This is a big homeschool state. Yes, you could not buy seeds in stores you had to go on line and seed websits were not up swhen I tried and due to the high demand nationally they would have to shut and regroup. So many poeple were flippamt and wd say -Oh just go buy on line! Unjust statues can cause collateral hardships.

Sounds similar to what I as reading in Canada during the protests by truckers (the idea of taking children involved in something the government didn't agree with -- i.e. the protest-- especially for any children with truckers protesting). Let's be real, if total government control of our lives is a goal for many in the government system, leaving children out of the equation is not going to happen. Homeschooling represents a threat to this type of system. Making alternative choices for our children is a threat (just google medical kidnappings). This is not new. Plan accordingly folks. because she was reading 2 grade in kindergarten.

SHE WAS READING 7th grade level.
She was advanced. The teacher said, "PLEASE, EDUCATE HER AT HOME, HOMESCHOOL HER. WE DID.
I always read books to her.
