It's not hard to be creative, just don't be greedy, fight yourself from within, it's ok to be bored, when you are bored you are supposed to bring life to what looks so grey and uncreative, so that is how you make good looking games.
I actually played rdr2 for the first time a week ago and I was blown away with the graphics and small micro details from them. Really I was blown away at everything, but the graphics were constantly wowing me. The scenic vistas and the shadows/volumetrics and lighting are still really good.
Detroit Become Human is one that automatically comes to mind. It came out in 2018 and that game still shocks me to this day with how beautiful it looks. Plus the facial animations are just crazy to me.
Since I got a new SSD just recently, going to reinstall this soon and continue my playing, because it got backlogged due to lack of space quite a while ago. It struck me while I was playing, how the lip syncing on the Android characters seemed incomplete, while the human characters' lips moved much more naturally. But maybe I was just imagining things; Still, it might have been an interesting narrative choice if this were the case - along with just looking somewhat stiff and unnatural in the world of humans, the androids just didn't look like everyone else when they were talking.
@@j.a.weishaupt1748 That is actually where I stopped playing long ago on my PS4 version - need to pick it back up and play through all the way. It's a REALLY good game. Great list! Rdr2 is still the gold standard for open world games imo. I was also blown away by Hellblade when I first played it. Can't wait to see what Hellblade 2 will look like.
Hellblade is simply astounding, i'm baffled they included that freakish weird faces Until Dawn and no Hellblade, Until Dawn looked like animatronics trying too hard or glitching, Hellblade, well, you can't really tell if it was Senua or they implemented some sort of neurological wave that showed in your mind Melina Juergens doing exactly what you'd think she would do in the game by pressing the buttons/keys, as for RDR2, for me, it is the GOAT not only for graphics, but for the whole package, and he kept talking about it on consoles, that made my jimmies rustle, also the fact the it isn't number 1 on the list, since people TO THIS DAY use it to test GPU performances, my setup is an i9 10900k, GeForce RTX 3060 12gb and Corsair Vengeance 32gb(2x16) 3200mhz that i've built from 0 with excellent cooling(2x 120mm fans taking cold air, 3x 120mm fans expelling hot air), it runs every game between 45º~55º celsius(depends how hot the day is) on both CPU and GPU on Ultra or Very High(if the game doesn't have Ultra quality option) at 1080p WITHOUT overclocking, but RDR2? 60º~70º celsius on Ultra(again, no overclocking).
Watching these games' gameplay through UA-cam doesn't do justice. You have to play it yourself to be able to truly appreciate the beautiful graphics they got. I'm still in awe looking at the landscapes of God of War and AC: Origins. It's just too beautiful
AC Unity definitely blew me away, graphically. But Syndicate seemed to vibe harder than any other creed. The cobblestone roads, the street lamps, and the fogginess popped hard as heck at night, dusk, and dawn.
idk how to explain it, but in the older ACs, it felt like your character blended into the world more. They lost this with Odyssey, and it definitely started going off track with Origins. You can create a graphically great world but it doesn't land if it doesn't manage to capture that immersion.
Agreed AC Syndicate is very underrated indeed. However I do wish they'd remaster AC Unity now as I think that game can finally shine with the more powerful hardware features to handle those dense crowds (still the only game that makes it feel like you're moving in a dense city in my opinion). That version of Paris was awesome especially the lighting in the interiors really holds up not to mentioned the dedicated stealth button for the 1st time in the series. I'd really just tweak the slow/sluggish combat and that God awful QTE concluding boss fight.
@@CrabSully yeah, I didn’t get into Origins as I just couldn’t get into the character, setting, or story. I like Odyssey a lot but the grind was painstaking. I also didn’t like that you had to max out your armor to one shot assassinate NPCs. Graphically it’s beautiful but just doesn’t have the same spirit as the former games.
I just finished Arkham Knight recently. It's amazing how this game is still often being talked about after all these years. And it's definitely my favorite game in the arkham series
Great vid. I think Witcher 3 deserves an honorable mention at least. Maybe not superbly polished, but the world design, details, and the "immersiveness" the world and the characters provide are mindblowing. Oh, yes, and weather - that deserves a video of its own.
I'm curious for the next-gen update of W3 🥰 I already played the game three times on PS4 but I recently bought it on PC and I'm waiting for the update to start playing again
Mate the middle chase in Uncharted 4 where you're hanging and climbing on the back of trucks is to this day still my favourite part of any game I've ever played. Genuinely felt like you was part of a Hollywood action blockbuster.
Battlefield 1 was my first game when i got my PS4. The atmosphere was simply phenomenal. Nothing beats going from bunker to trenches then finally seeing an airship slowly burning up and crashing down to you.
I feel like The Division also holds up really well. Especially in terms of the weather, I don't think I've seen better snow that is as atmospheric in any game ever
i agree that the Division really nails graphics technically and the weather is amazing, but it never blew me away. I think it's just the setting being too familiar and grey.

I wholeheartedly agree with AC: Origins. For me, it was the first AC game I played and it's one of the very few games where I now have 100% on the main game and the expansions. I'm a casual gamer and I often don't go for 100% (I'm honestly happy if I can finish the main game), but Origins just kept calling to me and I wanted to explore everything. I played it 2x on PS4 and I recently got the urge to play it again and I bought it now for PC ^^
I just can't get my head around the combat. I'm used to like Shadow of War and Arkham, and AC games are a bit weird for me. Love AC Origins so much tho
Knew we'd see god of war 2018 lol. Blew my mind playing it at launch and ragnarok continues to do the same. The continuous single shot without any real cuts, the visuals, the smooth animation and combat flow, it all just creates this amazing game that I would more consider to be an experience.
wanted to like it but the level grind was trash. Too much fluff in the game just to make it longer. Wouldve loved it if you didnt have to grind levels. same with odyssey. Its a shame.
@@flataffect The level gating sucks for a player who just wants to experience the main story quest i agree, but if you play doing the side content grinding is not necessary at all, it helps that the side content in Origins is pretty good (imo) but i definitely felt the gridding in Odyssey, that one went overboard with the side content and a good chunk of it i felt it wasn't as well thought out as in Origins.

This, how did it not make the list? It was to this day arguably the most "how the hell is this running on a console?" moment I've ever had. The game was pretty damn average, but goodness the graphics were as good if not better than most PC games at the time. Not talking framerates or resolution or whatever technical specs, I'm just talking about surface level graphics.
@@shotbyfabi I guess they didn't put it on their list because it's easily forgotten. The presentation was nice, but you don't usually hear people bringing it up. This would be the first time I've heard it mentioned since around the time of release.

Ryse of Rome was stupidly underrated if you ask me. not only graphics, but it was also hella fun; you really felt the fights and were part of intense battles
I felt that game was repetetive, linear on such an extreme scale that I have yet to come across any other games which is worse in that regard. But for the first couple of first hours, that game was amazing
I always forget how good Splinter Cell games look based on when they were released. The fact I can still play them now without even thinking about how old they are, speaks volumes.
Recently started a playthrough of the first Splinter Cell on Series S. Still looks incredible. I first played it in early 2002 and it blew me away. Chaos Theory still looks incredible as well.
Agreed on this for sure. Chaos Theory is one of the best looking games on the original Xbox, even impressive compared to a lot of early 360 titles. The lighting & shadow effects are still great to this day.
I think what this list proves is how damn groundbreaking and ahead of it’s time the previous console generation was. And that with the exception of frames, the new generation hasn’t exactly been a quantum leap in the graphics department. We may have just about reached the peak of what console graphics are capable of.
Wouldn't say it was ahead of its time. When they were released PCs were already capable of handling graphics like that for a longer time. It was a reasonable step and still felt smaller than the PS2/PS3 step. On the other hand, the new generation just didn't change that much then. But it's probably just the evolution of graphics. The new progress is just more subtle.
I actually just played through this for the very first time ever, but I was completely blown away by everything in the original dead space. I still think it holds up today, and I can't wait to play the remake

@@SalimPure the crisis graphics were not good, it was optimized horrendously, which is why it strained even the most top end systems, even to this day...
Okami, originally released for the PS2 is, to this day, stunningly gorgeous. Another surprising title, which I never see talked about, is Titan Quest. Despite originally launching in the late 2000's It still looks great by today's standards, and, despite the original developer shutting down, was given new life by THQ Nordic, where it continues to receive updates, expansions, and support to this day.
I played Arkham Knight at the highest resolution possible with 90 FPS. Even got the Burton suit DLC and a classic blue and grey mod. Highly recommend it. There is so much work that went into the game. You got the film grain that adds an extra 'noir' feel to it, Batman's cape physics alone deserve an award. The cinematic tone of the game is unlike anything else I've ever played. And despite the fact it had at times a photorealistic look, the more important thing is it had style. I will forever put style above graphics. Even if a game was released 30 years ago, if it has style it would still look better to me than Far Cry 5 or AC Origins. Every inch of Gotham oozes "Batman". All the Arkham games do, but all of it really excels in Arkham Knight.
AC Origins' art design and light effect, as well as overall landscape construction apper to be one of the finest examples so far by now. It was at lunch and it is now such a splendid audio-visual experience - that's what videogames are emant for. No surprise that this strong beginning bought sequels as it is conventional they did not provide the same high top level of execution. Though how marky they made is still fascinating, especially in comparison with stunning Origins.
I actually am a little over halfway thru Tomb Raider 2013 and I am totally blown away by how good that game is both visually and mechanically. Definitely looking forward to Rise of the Tomb Raider next. Just goes to show that artistic care goes a lot further than simple resolution and poly counts.
@@ZS-xi4xk I liked it too but the skill tree was absolutely useless since it was mostly combat related which was barely in the game. Also, you couldn't turn off the tutorials and they last the entire game. I didn't like that it so often took control away from the player as well. Sorry rant lol. I will say that shadow has the best tombs of the 3 so not bad at all.
There literally aren't words to describe how amazing the whole Battlefield 1 experience is. Sure theres a few teething snags. But in terms of encapsulating what World War 1 was like, Dice really hit the ball out of the park. It is by far the most graphically stunning and immersive game I've ever played. When I'm playing Operations with my headphones on, it truly makes me feel like I'm there, fighting for my country against the Germans. The whole game is a cinematic masterpiece. One of the best games of all time in my opinion.
Far Cry 2 still manages to surprise me with its beauty from time to time. Yes the graphics are visibly old by today's standards but it's still a very beautiful game.
One that goes even further back to 11 years ago (originally PS3) for me is Dead Island. It just looks so good, I often will just look around at the scenery and play with camera angle through the sunlight. It blows me away on the PS4, and it's just amazing that it came out on the PS3 (though I'm sure the framerate had issues on it).

Ah masa
AC Unity definitely blew me away, graphically. But Syndicate seemed to vibe harder than any other creed. The cobblestone roads, the street lamps, and the fogginess popped hard as heck at night, dusk, and dawn.
Yeah, the city in Syndicate was stunning. So atmospheric, detailed and evocative.
idk how to explain it, but in the older ACs, it felt like your character blended into the world more.
I agree with u totally
Ryse can honestly pass for a modern day game, very impressive. Anyone else surprised that a Crysis game isn't on this list?
I am also surprised
It's surprising how good it looks but NOTHING went into the gameplay or story or anything else. It's just like a tech demo.
With rise of the tombraider you get a real jewel of a game, trust me, i adore it
Enjoy. Prepare to be disappointed with shadow though...
@@ModestPavement I liked shadow, but rise was better imo.
I would mention “The Witcher 3”. It came out on 2015 and still looks amazing!
Dead island became a joke once it was remade correctly (dying light)
Ghost. Of. Tsushima. It was the first game I played on a PS5 and an OLED. Hands-down the best gaming experience I've ever had
Most beautiful game iv ever played graphicaly
Currently replaying unchartered 4 and damn this game is beautiful. Still chugging along on a ps4 but man it shows you what the older generation was really capable of. Awesome video and hopefully more people go back and experience these games because of it.
yeah, i did the experience of comparing side by side my PS4 (Slim) version on 1080p against my PC (RTX 3060Ti) version at 4K ultra on an LG 50" HDR screen , and yes there is a major bump up in textures quality on Nathan and all the cast and NPC, crispy as hell , the vegetation looks insane at this resolution, the particles effects and volumetric lighting are from another level , and the physic and environnements destruction still one of the best in gaming history , but still , how they made such a game run on a modest PS4 at the time is sorcery for me , Naughty Dog is well known for that .....i didn't play '"The Lost Legacy" DLC on PS4 , i can't wait to enjoy it on my PC 😋😋
@@offlinegamer6756 poor PS4 didn’t stand a chance against that PC setup but must be an awesome experience seeing the game in its very best and most beautiful form. I envy the CRISPINESS but as you said, still amazing what naughty dog could pull off.
@@alexhayman1108 i confirm my man ! i would love to see what magic the coders at Naughty Dog are preparing for the PS5 and if one day they'll decide to really spread their legs and developing something huge on our PC hardware , maybe it will have the same impact on us like Crysis 1 did on us back in 2007 , who knows ?
@@offlinegamer6756 yep it was recently released on pc and im so glad! Never bought playstation except ps1 back then so i just wanna play it on my pc. Even tho uncharted 1 to 3 didnt get released 😞
Ryse Son of rome is such a great game for players that love history still hoping for part 2
