[Jon, playing an anthropologist, steals an idol causing an entire people group to up and vanish]
You're about as good an anthropologist as Lara Croft is an archaeologist.
Well studying a dead civilization is match more prestigious
It's good to have you back in our Curious world. Thanks for playing!
Yo any chance for a native-based perspective of this game?
This is an interesting era of history in my country.
Also it would be funny trying to explain why you can have my stuff for money only to have them ignore you do it anyway.
Having been interned in a psychiatric clinic twice i can confirm, chocolate does indeed recover sanity.
Congrats on the recovery! My mental condition never got quite that bad, but I know the struggle.
@@gamemeister27 Thank you, didn't expect such a supportive comment to pop up here, i appreciate it. Hope you're doing great too.
@@Lowco5 I have been for a few years now! I've got a good job, my own place, and barely any panic attacks anymore.
@@gamemeister27 That's awesome!! I'm not quite there yet but death wishes and depression spikes are gone. I've got a job in line too, pandemic is not helping though haha. Anyways, nice to see someone can and has overcome this, wish you well mate.
@@Lowco5 Good luck my friend! As all things do, it takes time, both to find a job and truly recover.
I remember first coming to MATN's channel when he played the first version of this game. Those were good times.
I always wished he came back to the game.
Same here, fond of playing along with him.
Around about the same time as the Nicole series
47:33 After all those crusader kings 2 videos Jon has finally found and killed the White Stag ;)
And then he basically traded its very valuable pelt, for a quest that he never even resolved. Classic Jon.
I love how dogs in video games give Jon a morale buff. Not Jon's character, but Jon the person gets a morale buff.
This needs a full series. Also a series of livestreams.
"Oh no not perception checks" - Jon
hahhhahaha 😂
I know it's an alpha version and things are definitely bound to change, but I personally miss the pixel art of the first game. I understand they may have wanted a more modern look and the ability to have more detail on characters and surroundings, though.
Could have mixed the two, TinTin in 16bit. Guess the new look was probably an aesthetic choice for the flexibility.
I believe they chose it to stand punt among a crowd of pixel art indie games. Can’t really blame them to be honest.
i like the surroundings, they look better
but the pixel art style was cool bc it was easy to imagine all that horrifying accidents that happened to your party members in the night and how your donkey went mad
true. also so lazy, isn't it? it looks like a non-pixel art mod. what lazy game devs, really. instead of creating something, they created a non-pixel art sequel? urgs
I agree, I really liked the first game, and the devs seem lovely, but this is just like an ugly re-skin :-(
3:20 actually weightless was already a thing even when you were still making the videos about the first game! Much to the dismay of the comments section :P
All mechanics are new if you didn't realize they existed before. :D
The art is reminiscent of Franko-Belgian Comics like TinTin, January Jones, Adèle Blanc-Sec et al . Great Choice for the game.
Personally, I'm hoping for a game mode where you play as a native band that explores Europe, looting churches and sowing chaos.
Viking mode?
@@McKaiserken No.
McKaiserken found the ethno-nationalist
"Can you double pump the dog right now"
ummmmm
*yes please*
Phrasing!
I feel bad now as I could never get into the videos of the first game, but I guess this made up for it as I was hooked. I can't wait to see more.
curious expedition 2 is great because it's bright and colorful and the tone is so whimsical and breezy that it never feels boring or frustrating. plus, the way you, jon play it's all moving forward and not spending time in menus optimizing your experience. great video, homie.
The memories of the first game are all coming back.
Jon, weightless items were present in Curious Expedition 1. Maps, animal teeth, butterfly collections were weightless.
You have and had -1 perception.
Looks like my Dream came true: My favourite Art Style (ligne claire) plus my favourite Gaming-Genres (rougelike, adventure). Like playing a Hergé-Graphic Novel. Love it!
@16:00 - In addition to the request, look how far you went without losing a single point of Sanity to reach a spot you wanted to go to in the first place. Definitely worth the gift.
Is it just me, or does Jon always pick one type of character, and then proceed to play in a way, where another choice would have been better?
Yes, the transformation into a curious expedition channel is complete
The art style reminds me of 'The Adventures Of Tintin'
and other franco-belgian comics. January Jones, Les Aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec etc. Love it =)
Jon is never more British than in the Curious Expedition games. :D
More curious expedition is good, the new art reminds me of 90's edutainment media like where's Wally and choose your own adventure puzzle books
39:35 noooo don't skip the big ugly head, is it still big and ugly?
45:50 ah yes the elusive white stag... wait a second this isn't CK2!
*Looks at title*
*Yells* There's a sequel?!
*Runs off to Steam before watching the video*
But I came back to watch!
You were the one who got me into the first curious expedition, and when I first subscribed. Wow, please more of this when it's fully released. I enjoyed your old playthroughs so can't wait to see something new.
I don't specifically remember the art style of the previous game, but I like it; this art style really rubs me the wrong way for reasons I can't seem to place my finger on.
I already love the game
With those dice you had a 4.9% chance of getting zero greens. So basically you missed three 95% shots in a row.
He might as well be playing Xcom
I think the issue with not being able to attack the shield guys in that combat was because they hadn't unloaded the sprites from the encounter before loading in the combat sprites...so they just stacked.
I'm somewhat apprehensive about the new graphics, but also glad to see the same old "damn native relations, loot the shiny things" spirit of the original game is very much intact. 😁👍
This feels like a really fucked up time to put that narrative back into the world, doesn't it?
@@alexanderhammil6754 Not really. It's just a game and a good one at that.
The first was pobably my favourite game I've seen you play on this channel. Hoping for more content of this game!
What an absolutely marvelous surprise! More MATN Curious Expedition, huzzah!
These graphics remind me of the magazines they used to have in doctor's waiting rooms for kids to read.
I never clicked on any notification faster. So excited!
Amen brother!
I bought the game about 15 minutes after I watched your first playthrough :)
I'm soooo happy to see this is back and better !!
When I saw the CE2 was nearing early access I started watching the old episodes. Here's to surviving!
14:24 Jon's natural enemy... the dreaded Perception Check.
I'm eager for more ! Livestream or edited serie ?
Though i liked the artstyle of the old game better, it's nice to see new gameplay mechanics and this bieutifull "art-nouveau"-steampunky aesthetic !
40:10 seems like Jon have adopted the "hella" we have been so negative about in the life is strange playthroughs.
I really really hope they add a character based on you to the game Jon. 😁
14:20 oh no!
I'm kind of shocked that this isn't a 6 hour video. This kind of game is electronic crack to Jon.
Bully! I love the odd expedition.
Been binging a lot of MATN recently, and something I wonder. Has the original Hitman game been featured on the channel? Hitman 2, blood money, even absolution are here. Along with the new Hitman seasons 1 & 2. So.. yeah. Just wondering if there's an obscure video I've missed or something
knowing this game Jon, i wouldnt get so attached to the dog
YEEEEESS I’VE BEEN WANTING MORE OF THIIIS
I was willing to let "dice" as a singular slide, I've given up, but... he just said "dices".
The gold ancient machine looks like Metagross from Pokemon
30 seconds in and I already love the art style.
So wait.... this is curious expedition but instead of Charles Darwin taking his crusade against all living things you play as a random nobody who works for Robco? Honestly this seems pretty good as a sequel and this is like the earliest version of it.
ohhhhh boy... did not know this is in development... never played, but loved the videos and always thought i neeeeed to play this game ... now i need to get into it
Two things Jon:
1. The original Curious Expedition *_did_* have weightless items, you just never noticed.
2. The plural for Dice is *_'Die'_* _(EDIT: or y'know the other way around)_ not _"dices"_
Erm, the plural is "dice" and the singular is "die"...
Die is the singular of Dice, not the other way around.
@@bright_lego Indeed. It is still not, however _"dices"_
This was such a difficult and wonderful game first time round, just wish I had a PC with me to play it right now!
Pump up the Dog Pump up the Dog Pump up the Dog DANCE DANCE
Everytime he uses attacks before buffs and debuffs I die a little inside. Good ol' perception -1
If I had a pound for every time Jon said "I probably shouldn't loot this temple" and then looted the temple I'd have enough money not to have to loot this temple!
"We'd need to be hella lucky" Chloe Price left more of an impression on Jon than any of us realised!
Jon I just finished playing the Demo for a game called Fights in Tight Spaces it is kinda like Slay the Spire but instead of it being a turn based 2D fighter game it is a 3D turn based fighter game, I feel like it might be right up your alley and it definitely is a good game to keep your eye on.
Are you saying the locals aren't civilized Jon?!
Take a shot every time you hear a "Spectacular!", double shot for "Spec-flippin-tacular!"
Looking forward for more of this!
Weightless items were definitely a thing in the first game.
more please really enjoying
Chocolate? Kendal mintcake surely!
Yes! A million times yes!
The most British person playing the most British game
We have been all waiting for this!
Omg part 2!!! Yasssss
Nice video!
Hey Jon, have you ever considered playing a game called Arcanum: Of Steamworks And Magick Obscura? It’s done by the creators of the original Fallout games, and it’s basically that in a Fantasy/Steampunk setting, and it’s really fun! Also, the first NPC you talk to is basically you.
It's the Wonky Donkey.
I guess personally, I enjoyed the pixel art style of the first game much more compared to the motion comic style 2D animation and environments in this game. I also enjoyed the icons and UI of the old game more, such as the dice and the portraits. This second game looks like it relies a lot on exaggerated full body animations in motion comic style, and cartoony looking environments and backdrops with the art style which makes me think more of a cartoony point & click game than a roguelike.
I think the pixel art style of the first game was part of why it was able to stand out the way it did. It also kind felt like you knew the kind of game you were playing and were able to immerse yourself into it, particularly with animations and transitions. Didn't really need any fluff and I enjoyed that. The backgrounds and environments of this game with lots of flat, solid like coloration with the art style don't do it for me as much as the first game. Hard to put my finger on it exactly, but the total package just isn't quite as good.
Ooooooo I've been waiting for this
Might I suggest kingdoms of amalur reckoning for a future series ; great game unlikely to get sequel due to backstage antics but a really fun time
It's getting a remaster.
James Clarkson really that is great I honestly did not know if anything would follow
I still haven't bought the first one yet, still on my wishlist.
YES! This is an awesome game!
oh, those animations look very weird. though i like the island idea
He's Jon and this is many a tuna 😂
I can't hear it any other way
4:00 - Ok..everybody chill...ok. We're going to call it 'RECRUITING' ok. Just to make sure everyone understands that, It means nothing else. It's called 'RECRUITING' alright...wink.wink.
Gotta love this revisionist history where no native tribe ever helped or sided with the explorers in exchange for goods, power or just to eliminate a rival tribe.
I think it was a mistake to leave behind the pixel art style.
That was honestly like 50% of the reason I was even interested in the first game to begin with.
oh no jon... poor explorers
Any chance there will be another Stellaris series now that the CK2 series is over?
I’m very torn on this because I loved the curious expedition, this does not seem like a great sequel though. It’s a subjective thing but I really dislike the art style, I like the idea of a hand drawn map style but more of a old style hand drawn map, not like this I find it ugly. Not just the map screen but the characters look very ugly and where it’s worst is their animation. The combat I really don’t like, the combo thing was interesting and it made everyone work together so you needed a nice well rounded team, this seems like just the same but less.
Saying that I do like the extra things they added to the town, it’s not just a place to pick up your one new member, but supplies, and leave. The sponsors are a nice feature and the more quest focused islands are good. All of that in mind though I don’t think this is enough good change to warrant a sequel, it feels more like an update or maybe DLC.
Bring it back
More, more please!
the donkey is FOOD for them.. so likely why they wanted to eat him
Are you planning on doing a new play of this game, now that they are soon out of early access?
I'm liking what I see may get this later :)
Oregon Trail vibes.
I think I preferred the more complex combat of the previous game over this form
The Mysterious Island:Quest For Captain Nemo..
This is one of a annoyingly large number of games that I would love... if they were just a little less aggravatingly difficult and RNG-based.
Jon are you going to play anymore Armello?
Deeeeeeeef series/stream this
Hey Jon, are you ever planning to do some more of Divinity: Original Sin 2?
I'm playing it right now and I just can't get over how expansive it is, there's such a ridiculous amount of build options.
I decided to be an archer because I find them dull most of the time and wanted to try something different for once and now my guy is able to jump halfway across the battlefield to a heightened position for an extra 55% damage or using teleport/nether swap he can just move other archers/mages from high points and take their place.
It's hilarious. The teleporting mechanic is fantastic.
Oh there's a chest faraway I can't get to? Teleport it over! Can't open it? Just freaking take it with you until you can, or break it.
It's super fun when you make a really cohesive team that cover all bases efficiently. My swordsman is also my summoner so he can summon his incarnate behind someone then jump in front of them for a nice pincer move because if they run away both characters get to hit them.
And if they run away, they can enjoy being teleported right back in to the death zone.
If you were to do another video on it I'd say starting at Act 2 would likely be best, once you get off that first island it opens up massively and you'll have picked your team too.
Oh and best of all? At any point you can go to a certain place and respec your characters completely, as much as you want.
Are there companions in-game or do you have to create your own team?
nice!
I would of taken the other donkey and the cook. A bit more food 😈😈😈
I really like the new look of the game. The pixel art of the last one was not the most appealing in my opinion. Many better looking pixel art styles.
