    He was much more than just Bob Ross’ inspirational and technical master. He was a talented, fascinating, fun-loving, and spiritually-evolved individual in his own right; a great artist and a motivational pioneer, with a caring message.

    Bob Ross DID give Bill Alexander credit for teaching him how to paint. Bob could paint, just like me..I also paint, however to learn those techniques that Bill employed is what was needed to make GREAT paintings. WET on WET paintings have been around since the 15 century from what I read,but Bill did create the idea of priming the canvas first. The magic white on the canvas first. I think later JESSO came out and it was much improved and that is what Bob Ross used. They were BOTH brilliant painters. I can paint fairly good. I could always draw as a kid and so on. But it takes me HOURS to complete one painting like they do in 30 minutes. They are the masters for sure. Thanks to UA-cam , we can watch them forever

      I do note some drastic differences between the two, though. Bill's paintings, from what i've seen, are often sharper and sometimes more detailed within the video's timeframe. But i think this is because he tends to work at his pace rather than the viewer's pace as Bob tended to. Bill is an incredibly adept painter, but Bob was able to teach it. Bill does a lot of explaining/talking as he creates, but Ross often will slow down or stop to show the exact brush movement he was making. They had different specialties, i think bill was better at creating/defining, but Bob was better at translating, and i think that's why Bob excelled with his tv series.

    • @robinnewton412

      @@MrRickChase so true. Bill is fun to watch but Bob is definitely a more in depth instructor. Both are amazing artists.

      Did Ross acknowledge Alexanders influence?

    • @TruthWillFreeYou
      @TruthWillFreeYou 5 років тому +3

      @@richardwright8189 "TV host and prolific painter Bob Ross studied under Alexander, from whom he learned his wet-on-wet technique, a method of painting rapidly using progressively thinner layers of oil paint. Ross dedicated the first episode of the second season of The Joy of Painting to Alexander, explaining that "Years ago, Bill taught me this fantastic technique, and I feel as though he gave me a precious gift, and I'd like to share that gift with you [the viewer]". As Ross's popularity grew, his relationship with Alexander became increasingly strained. In a 1991 interview with The New York Times, Alexander said of Ross, "He betrayed me. I invented 'wet on wet'. I trained him, and he is copying me -- what bothers me is not just that he betrayed me, but that he thinks he can do it better." -en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Alexander_(painter)

Bob's paintings seem calm and precise, while Bill's paintings are edgy and inexact. At least that is the way I react to them.
