Flowmaster 40 Series on My 3.4 Tacoma V6!!

- This Flowmaster Original 40 Series does everything I wanted and more for my 3.4 V6 Tacoma's exhaust note. It's deep and plenty loud, but the drone isn't too bad and it isn't obnoxious. The absolute best of both worlds. Shoutout to my grandpa for making this all possible and join the squad to see more awesome automotive content from an aspiring young enthusiast!!
I understand some of you may consider this to be a little bit on the ricey end of mods since I just welded the 40 Series into the stock piping, but I think that it's a good start for me because welding up a full catback would NOT have been feasible for me. Baby steps.

What would would sound good on a Monte Carlo 3.4
You did a good job, keep it up! Practice makes perfect, you'll have it down in no time!
Thanks!
To make it easier to reduce leaks ....use a band clamp on the inlet and outlets
Yeah... Definitely would have used clamps if the muffler had fit over the stock pipes a little better.
Or Weld it.
Is it loud inside the cab? (When driving on highway) Been wanting to put one of these flow masters on my 3.5 reg cab F-150.
You definitely won't forget it's there, but to me it isn't annoying. I've driven from Texas to Utah and back without getting bothered by it
Lesson to everyone, don't try to mig weld thin tube metal. Tig is good for thin tubes, even then its tricky.
Yeah there are definitely better welding types for this sort of thing
Do you need to weld it or can you use a fastener?
In the case of this muffler with stock piping I would say that welding is necessary because the inner diameter of the muffler was significantly bigger than the outside diameter of the piping.
The only time id wear a mask is under the truck sanding or cutting.
Definitely good advice that I should have followed
I thought it would be cooler honestly, it's ok
It's definitely not quite a V8 like the younger me thought 🤔
How much did you pay for the muffler?
Muffler was about $80
Thank God finaly someone with common sense. I see mechanics spend over 5 thousand on a rebuild like donut media and then as soon as it starts they rev is like crazy like bro do you want your engine to last LOL
me who has a 1999 tacoma and likes to hear it all the time :3
I have the same muffler on my 3.4. I sounds way better than I thought it would. Some guys have even asked me if it had a V8 in it.
Right!? Who thought a chambered muffler would make so much difference in the low end sound. Glad you enjoy it!!
Any MPG difference between Stock and Flow master?
Bro you'd be suprised... I live in California and I drove. 3vze 95 pickup with the exhaust cut off like that and it was loud but never got pulled over for months blasting by cops
My T100 has the same motor. I bet the exhaust pipes are the same size. Thanks for posting this. I’m considering pulling the trigger on this upgrade
My pleasure!! I love the T100, hope all goes well for you!
Dart B Productions did you ever do headers or planning on it? I’ve been researching it. I just put in a K&N intake and I’m blown away by the results.
I put a Flo~Pro Super V race muffler on my '97 T100. Low rumble at idle and slight throttle is intoxicating. I shot a vid of my wife driving past the camera, she touched the throttle just right and it sounds SOOOO GOOD!
At higher rpm, it gets raspy and sounds like a V6.
I might do this to my my 04 , love ur videos !!!
I definitely can recommend it! Thanks man!
Sheesh I gotta do this to mine!
I definitely recommend it!! Great exterior sound with some drone but not an intolerable amount (for me anyways).
I don’t think the drone’ll bother me haha, my other car is straight piped hehe. I just got my Tacoma last Sunday night! So hyped to get started with it!!
Yeah you'll probably be good to go then :)
How's it going? Still loving it?
I'm thinking about the same mod but I don't want any ricer noise or humming as I'm driving.
I think it's awesome!! There is some interior drone around 1500-2500 rpm but I personally don't find it annoying. As far as ricer noise, you can definitely tell that it's a V6 above 2500, but I find that the sound is pleasing at all revs. No farting or weird buzzing like with a lot of diesels, for example. You can get some decent pops out of it too if you rev high.
Does it have a stock cat on or no cat mine can a cat but with an o2 sensor and I just dont know what to do. Basically would cutting off the cat throw a code to my cat
I only cut out the stock muffler. Stock cat is still in. If you cut out the cats you will throw a code if I understand correctly.
I’m doing this on my 02’ today might make a video because there isn’t a lot of them but thanks for the vid man 🤟🏼🤟🏼
For sure dude hope your work went well
Yes it did . Sounds awsome went with the 40series and a cat delete and it roars.
aLmOsT a V8 🤣
Do you have a part number for this particular muffler?
Yeah, it's the Flowmaster Original 40 Series 2.5" offset in/out in aluminized steel - part number 42543.
Thanks man sounds awesome looking forward to installing this on my truck
That's awesome! Good luck!
You should have at least prepped it for them
Yeah that would have been better
does this effect your fuel economy?
I didn't notice any difference with it after making the switch, but I also haven't measured it
That actually didnt sound too bad.....40 series on a V6 usually not as good as on a V8.....youre lucky it turned out good....just in case u have some drone at hwy speeds....a highflow resonator will reduce that. :)
Yeah I'm super stoked with how it sounds. Ordinarily I would never even consider a Flowmaster for anything smaller than a V8 but I watched some videos with the 5VZ and this muffler and it sounded pretty nice. Turned out to be a good investment haha. There is a little drone but I don't mind it. I was prepared for it to be MUCH worse but it honestly came out perfect (in terms of sound anyways).
Could I put this on my 3.4 Monte Carlo?
Why doesn’t mine sound that good?
Same engine in the V6 tundra?
Yup
How is yiur gas mileage
I get about 18 mpg in city driving, don't do much highway so I don't have a number there.
12:16 you did use mig
Yeah but it was gasless flux core not which isn't as consistent
nice
Thanks man!
Does this make it louder or just sound better
Which brand of muffler bearings do you use?
Only military grade titanium ones from Lockheed Martin, of course :D
What welder are you running?
It's a Lincoln Power MIG 180C. I was using the crummy Fluxcore stuff for this video because I was scared to try setting up gas. Suffice it to say that I got out what I put in in terms of welds XD.
Where would be a good place to find a project car for cheap? I’ve looked at some salvage sites with really no luck. Especially hard when looking for a standard transmission. This is Alex By the way and you can remove this later if you would like, just didn’t know where to talk lol.
Hey Alex! Finding a project car is something that can take a VERY long time, especially if you're looking for the perfect deal. However - there are lots of cars with big potential that still have clean titles, so don't limit yourself to just looking at salvage dealers. The key is to keep looking: Craigslist has a LOT of cheap cars but some of them have pretty questionable history so you do need to inspect them for sure. AutoTempest pulls cars for sale from multiple different sources and is a good way to get an idea of what's out there and what most people are paying for the car you're looking into. Finally, keep looking at those salvage sites too - they may not have what you want now but it may just be a matter of time until the perfect car arrives. Don't give up, you'll find the one eventually!
Over a year old but you could check copart, lots of wrecked vehicles but also alot of non wrekced vehicles. Lots of good deals and locations
