Thanks I did wonder how serious Olympus was with it's weather proofing! Will give me a lot more confidence when I take my EM5 II out in the NW of England's rainy climes!
I live in the Philippines where the weather, especially rain can be murder on camera gear. I currently use a Nikon dslr which is weather sealed...to a point, but I need something that can stand up to the abuse of the unpredictable weather here. This test and other reviews I've seen prove the EM1 would fit my needs for environmental issues, not to mention reducing weight in my backpack. Always nice reviews. Thanks.
Got mine on order--our city is called Prince Rupert BC, but also reffered to as "Rinse Rupert" BC because it rains a lot here--this is the perfect camera !!
Thanks for a great video. I do a lot of all weather shooting while traveling on my motorcycle. I have an Olympus E5 and have been waiting for a replacement since it's a bit bulky, I have now placed an order for this one, can't wait to get my hands on it. Best thing is that my old lenses will work using an adapter.
Awesome update, this looks like something I could really use, I will have to look into this camera for sure after a few paychecks, and selling some old gear on Ebay :)
wow i think that weather sealing test would of killed my 5D3, my camera doesn't seem to have much from keeping water going into the battery compartment or the memory card compartment, I would never try doing the puddle test, if I am wrong about the 5D3 then please let me know, one thing I have notices is that no camera company ever seems to want to say what there weather sealing is capable of, but I am impressed with the EM1's puddle test, but still waiting to see the newest SONY & Fuji in Oct
I want this camera and lens more then anything ive ever wanted, it's going to take me a long long time to get one but all going well they will come down in price and meet me half way
Are there any other lenses that are weather resistant besides the new pro lens, the 12-50mm and 60mm macro? I have never used a time lapse feature, but I could see it really being something special. Is there a time when I would want more than 999 frames? What size is a rough size of a time lapse movie file? I know it depends on the number of frames and resolution of the movie, but what rough size would a person be looking at after conversion to a movie? 25mbs, 500mbs, 1gb? Thank you.
Do you think this could be a capable camera for wildlife and landscape? I am thinking about this camera but I haven't handled or used it yet and would like another opinion on if it's capable with the type of photography I enjoy doing.
Rewatched your hardware review, so the missing hardware aa filter, lens profiles, software aa filter and awesome peaking. The difference appears to be mainly generational improvements; the EM5 is to EM1 as 5D2 is to 5D3. Both good (great?) with one better.
No people probably wouldn't do it with their own cameras. Like I would not drop my camera on purpose. But it is nice to know that t would probably survive if it happened as an accident. Nice to see Oly is confident enough in their products to allow reviewers to do this kind of thing.
Hey Blunty, as you seem to be looking for ideas all the time: I'd like to see some kind of comparison of weather resistance between the latest pentax models (yeah, I'm a pentax guy^^) and the OMD EM1 (and perhaps some other cams as well? :) ). I don't have any idea how this comparison could be made, but I'm sure you could come up with something cool :)
bathing and sprinkling the em1 in water... man you are pretty crazy :-----)))!! nice proof of concept, now when shooting in rain i will always think about this review, so thx :o)
I just watched this video today (2020) Blunty. You've cost me money mate, ordered an immaculate E-M1 off EBAY today.
you made this review with so much enthusiasm makes me consider getting this camera. congrats

At last! A decent waterproof camera....Finally I can take photos in the bath....
I tought it was weather sealed but that seems like almost water proof!! looking forward using it in rain conditions!

That is such a beautiful looking camera.

Maybe you should watch the review series linked in the description and find out.

Blunty you're a brave man! thanks for showing that. To all the pros, now you know

I love getting a Blunty video in my inbox late at night, gives me an excuse to stay up later :DD
Wow, now I want an Em1 !!
Wow good water test!
That's it, I'm buying Em1!
I'm putting "Get Olympus OMD EM1" on my bucket list!!
I want this camera and lens more then anything ive ever wanted, it's going to take me a long long time to get one but all going well they will come down in price and meet me half way
I'm seriously tempted to switch from Pentax. I just with the f/2.8 zooms were a bit cheaper (or had third-party cheaper options)
Compared to canons 24-70 and many others, this lens IS cheap! There are as well cheaper prime lenses with f/1.8 apertures like the awesome 45mm f/1.8
Are there any other lenses that are weather resistant besides the new pro lens, the 12-50mm and 60mm macro?

does it uses the same battery as the OMD EM5? thanks in advance

Hey Blunty! Great review. Would you be able to tell us if this suffers from shutter shock?
Yay perfect for a clumsy person like meeee~ but no, I still hav to get it insured , any suggestions abt insuring camera ?
Has the em5 got as good weather sealing or is this better?
EM5 have pretty good weather sealing, EM1 is even better.
Thanks for the info :)
Saxoprane
So true. But the Olympus E-5 is waterproof.
I wonder how they keep the water from getting into the lens while its zooming.
great review!! i love my em1! just wondering what software you used to put the time lapse together. thanks in advance!
awesome , , I'm happy to be in the rain now , !!!!thats impressive !!
Wonder if you would keep dunking it if it was your actual camera that you paid for?
No people probably wouldn't do it with their own cameras.

Man very good review I would love to have that camera but it cost too much
Hey Blunty,

Now I'm wondering how water-resistant it would be with a 17mm f1.8 lens.
Can you shoot raw files with the timelapse mode?
What makes this truly pro and why isn't the em5?
Crazy test, I trust you!
Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8 is water and dust proof if you go outside Olympus lenses.
That awkward moment when you have to give it back and it isn't working :P But major propus to Olympus and the Blunty "Realistic Weather Test"
Hey Olympus, let Nate have the OMD EM1 !
thanks. the water test is crazy. I like this :D
So is the Panasonic Lumix 35-100 f2.8.
Thanks a lot for the vid. I don't fear heavy rain, know ;)
wow
aww man, your title got me, I was expecting you to shoot it with a gun!. Oh well.
Ahh, that's reassuringly neat. got a used EM1 mk1 on order, own a EM10mk2 which in the Scottish vilest weather is useless. 😂
"I squirted myself in the face"
I'm sorry Blunty but that sounded so... wrong. LMFAO xD
Don't beat around the bush Bloke. If you like it just say so.............
My words exactly LOL
Damn this is hard to SEE!!
OMG OMD
this guy is nuts..lol
Lol
waterfall proof XD
